Georgian style in the interior

Georgian design is the forefather of the popular English style. Symmetry is combined with harmony and verified proportions.

The Georgian style appeared during the reign of George I. At that time, the Rococo direction came into fashion. Travelers who visited other countries brought newfangled trends to the UK, and one of them was classicism, which was actively used in architectural and interior design.

The combination of two different directions - rococo with classicism - made it possible to obtain an unusual, but interesting result.

The Georgian design has to some extent incorporated the Chinese Gothic. The transformation of the established fashionable canons was also facilitated by new materials and craft development. In the design of residential interiors, they began to use red varieties of wood, elegant glass products. They replaced massive decorative elements.

The apartments, designed in Georgian style, embodied practicality. They always had fireplaces, which helped to keep the house warm in chilly weather. Window openings in such mansions were made voluminous, letting in a large amount of sunlight.

Georgian design can be realized in any era; many people choose it for decorating country cottages. This decor fits perfectly into the atmosphere of a spacious living room; it can be recreated in the interior of the bedroom and hallway.

When creating such a design, you need to follow simple guidelines.

1. Divide the walls in the room into 3 parts. It is not necessary to buy expensive finishing materials. You can paint the wall panels, varnish them, create a reliable imitation of real wood. Use budget polyurethane or vinyl curtain rods in the decoration.
2. Georgian wallpaper is not as expensive as it used to be, and can be purchased at any time. Do not forget to glue the border of gilded tape around the perimeter.
3. The drawing on the wall surfaces, created with your own hands from fabrics and borders, will make it possible to recreate the original Georgian design.
4. For the flooring, use vinyl with a marbled or linoleum look. In the kitchen, lay the tiles in a checkerboard pattern.
5. The premises do not require a lot of furniture. If you wish, you can find inexpensive furnishings that fit into the Georgian interior. It is recommended to place furniture along the wall.
6. Windows can be decorated with scalloped or roller blinds.
7. Choose lighting fixtures similar to the style of the Georgian period, resembling the shape of a candle.
8. Complement the interior with mirrors, decorative plaster panels. Observe symmetry when placing decor elements.

During the reign of George I, furniture production flourished, and it was fashionable to use elite materials in decoration. When decorating the surfaces, marble was used, the windows were decorated with carved shutters. The ceilings were decorated with stucco, the walls of the houses were sheathed with wood.Despite its inherent practicality, the Georgian design was hardly completely utilitarian.

Particularly noteworthy is the decoration of wall surfaces in the interiors of houses designed in this style. The traditional solution involved dividing the wall space into 3 parts.

The second middle section started at approximately 75 cm from the floor surface. The third section included a frieze with a cornice. The central part was decorated with expensive wallpaper or covered with fabrics, with the exception of the dining area.

The floors in Georgian mansions were usually plank or polished parquet. The houses were made cozy at the expense of oriental or English carpets. Wooden floors were painted and varnished. Terracotta tiles were laid in the hall, bathroom and kitchen.

In a Georgian mansion, there must certainly be a furniture set in which all elements are combined in upholstery and material of manufacture.

Upholstery fabrics were chosen with patterns in the oriental style. Materials with embroidery were also popular.

In the living room you can buy soft chairs with armrests and complement them with poufs, and in the kitchen - wicker chairs with pillows fixed to them with bows.

Furnishings should not take up all of the available space. This style assumes free space.

Numerous candles were used to illuminate the house. They were placed in candelabra and beautiful candlesticks. Sconces with classic designs or rococo designs were also used as lighting fixtures.

Additional light was provided by the fire in the fireplace. He contributed to the creation of a cozy atmosphere in the premises.

In addition, rooms were decorated with silver items, drawings were applied to wall surfaces and door panels.

The interiors of the houses, designed in Georgian style, combine royal luxury with elegance. This design incorporates the best features of the Rococo, Gothic and other trends, while it has a large number of individual characteristics that provide harmony and grace.
