Large or medium-sized kitchens are most often equipped with two windows, as they need additional lighting. In this regard, the second window is a gift to the hostess. Those who spend a lot of time at the stove need good lighting. In addition, there is a place to rest for the sight, except for the kitchen. But not everything is so simple: rooms with two window openings have their own characteristics, which we will try to figure out.

Features of the layout

A room with regular geometric shapes (square or rectangular) consists of four walls, on which, in our case, there should be two windows and at least one door. In most layouts, both window openings fall on the same wall, but in private houses they can go to different sides.

It is more difficult to arrange furniture in a kitchen with two windows than with one. And if the doorway also chose a third wall for itself, you can forget about a standard corner kitchen or a traditional soft corner. Furniture will have to be bought and installed in different sections, where there is free space. It is difficult to find models that fully match the dimensions of the free walls.

In such cases, so that the interior does not crumble into separate modules, it is better to make an individual order according to the size of your room.

Advantages and disadvantages

A kitchen with two windows is both pleasing and problematic. Let's first consider the positive side of such a layout:

  • the room has twice as much light, it looks more airy;
  • you can place the kitchen set in an original way by including window openings;
  • if you place the dining area at one of the windows, and the work area at the other, it will be light for everyone, both for those who cook and for those who eat.

    The negative side is also significant, and it should be taken into account when creating an atmosphere in such a room:

    • first of all, you will have to work hard, drawing up a design project, since it will require a non-standard solution;
    • heat loss from two windows is always greater than from one;
    • textiles will need to be purchased in duplicate;
    • you can't put anything in a too narrow opening between the windows, except for a floor vase;
    • if the windows have low sills, they cannot be used under the countertops.

    Design options

    For a kitchen, it is important to have roomy furniture, into which it is easy to integrate modern appliances and place a thousand of the necessary things. At the same time, the furnishings should create a cozy atmosphere. No matter how many windows there are in the room, he has to solve two problems: functionality and comfort.

    In medium-sized kitchens, where window openings occupy most of the useful part of the walls, they are trying to be included in the overall environment. Window sills turn into additional tabletops, the sidewalls of window openings are emphasized by narrow pencil cases or shelving. The windows are absorbed by a unique set created for a particular kitchen.

    Large rooms with two windows can afford a lighter interior, not overloaded with an abundance of hanging cabinets. There is enough space to arrange furniture according to the rules of the chosen style.

    And if it turns out that the windows are too large and have taken up a significant part of the usable area, you can introduce an island element, an additional tabletop and functional storage areas will immediately appear.

    Windows lined up

    Windows located on the same wall may look different in different rooms.Between them there is a large or small pier, and the openings themselves differ in height and volume. Therefore, there are no general recipes for creating an interior. Consider especially popular design options.

    • The most common technique for decorating a wall with two windows is to equip it with lower pedestals along the entire line. A hanging cabinet is most often mounted in a window partition. A common tabletop can be combined with window sills. But there are other options when it passes under them, or there are no window sills at all.
    • Sometimes, instead of a hanging box, a hob is installed in the wall, and a fume hood is installed above it.
    • The wide partition allows the slab to be surrounded on both sides by additional hanging cabinets.
    • In some interiors, the opening between the windows is decorated with paintings, lamps, pots with flowers or other decor. In this case, the furniture is installed along the perpendicular walls.
    • Spacious rooms can afford not to pile up work pedestals near the windows. This is the best place in the kitchen, light and cozy, given to the dining area. There you can not only eat, but also relax, looking out the window.

    Placing sinks or stoves near the windows is controversial. Some believe that good lighting will not be superfluous during kitchen work, others pay attention to the state of the glass, which may be splashed with grease.

    Windows on different walls

    The interior in the room, where the windows are located on different walls, turns out to be more beautiful and rich. A free corner is connected to the design, which can have a variety of design options. The distance between the windows is quite wide or so narrow that it creates the illusion of its absence.

      • In a narrow rectangular kitchen, the furnishings are arranged in the form of the letter P. Two walls with windows are most often decorated with the lower tier of pedestals, without burdening the room with upper drawers. And only the free wall has full-fledged bunk furniture. A single tabletop line runs under the window openings. In such rooms, a sink is often installed on a curbstone by the window.
      • Close-up windows do not make it possible to equip the corner with work furniture. But this layout becomes ideal for the dining area: a lot of light and an opening view from the window.
      • In a large kitchen, it is advisable to arrange the dining and work areas under different windows.
      • In some interiors, window openings are literally "sheathed" with hanging cabinets from all sides. The series of furniture in the corner is not interrupted, the wardrobe naturally goes to the second wall.
      • Windows that are too close do not allow hanging a hanging box, but it is quite possible to put a corner cabinet down, it will organically connect the two lines of the lower tier.
      • Many housewives install a conventional kitchen set with corner top and bottom drawers. When the furniture approaches the openings, the upper sections are removed.
      • Sometimes, a standard rectilinear cabinet is hung between the window and the corner.

      What to do with radiators?

      Two-tier kitchen sets with solid large-scale countertops do not get along well with radiators. Designers know several tricks to help solve this problem.

      • In the kitchen, instead of a window sill, a countertop is often installed, in which case a narrow long slot is made above the radiator. If it is not aesthetically pleasing enough, it can be hidden under a decorative lattice. This opening will be sufficient for warm air circulation. A closed storage system is arranged in the space under the countertop. But if the kitchen is cold, it is better to leave the radiator open, and use the free space under the countertop, for example, for stools.
      • The battery can be moved to another location. And if you replace it with a vertical product, it can occupy the narrowest non-standard area of the kitchen.
      • A radiator hidden behind a tall cabinet will be of little use as heating, and the furniture will gradually begin to dry out.
      • Sometimes it is better to completely abandon radiators in favor of a warm floor.

      Window decor

      You can pick up any curtains in the room: curtains, kitchen curtains, Roman, roller blinds, blinds - it all depends on the style of the interior. Usually, both windows are decorated in the same way.

      • In small rooms, it is better to use short curtains, and long curtains are more suitable for spacious rooms.
      • The color scheme of textiles can contrast with furniture or walls. If the tonality matches the setting, the window will “dissolve”. In some design decisions, this is justified, for example, the radiant purity of a white kitchen does not imply dark stains in the form of textiles.
      • Expressive stylish curtains can support similar tablecloths, tea towels, chair covers, or stool cushions.
      • Window equipment should be thought out so that it does not come into contact with the work surface.

      Despite the difficulties of creating an interior, a kitchen with two windows is lighter and more spacious than one, and the design is more diverse and unusual.
