Safety requirements for redeveloping a kitchen with a gas stove transfer

Moving a gas stove to another place is not the rarest situation, since with an individual layout of a room, the owners often need to move the stove from the designated place, rearrange it to a more convenient one. This may be due to design nuances or non-standard arrangement of the kitchen space. In an apartment, it is impossible to move the stove outside the kitchen according to the standards, and if you want to put it in another place, then even a small offset must meet safety requirements.

This is due to the fact that the gas stove is a priori a source of increased danger. There are strict regulations governing this issue. The location of the slab is always clearly marked on the BTI plan of the apartment: any changes and corrections in the plan are interpreted as redevelopment.

Moving a gas stove within the kitchen is a redevelopment, even if the displacement of the object is small. But even this question is divided into many small points. If you plan to locate the gas stove a little further than its initial place, then in this situation only a certificate from Mosgaz will be required from the permitting documentation (if you live in the capital).

If the rearrangement is planned on a large-scale, then you need to make a project for the transfer of equipment, it is also ordered from Mosgaz. The rules also require an agreed transfer with the Moscow Housing Inspection. Residents of other cities should contact the appropriate supervisory authorities of their locality.

In order to perform a high-quality installation of pipes or to transfer them, certain standards must be observed. Apartment owners often do not even imagine that their desire to move or rearrange something a little can lead to a violation of these norms (and there will be about a hundred of them!)

Among the basic requirements are the following.

• You cannot connect the gas appliance with several hoses, it must be one and one-piece.
• Gas pipes and stove cannot be placed outside the kitchen.
• The blocking of gas pipes is prohibited; laying them in niches is also impossible. Pipes must be located conveniently, since specialists should not experience difficulties during inspection.
• There must certainly be a door in a room with a gas stove, therefore, it is realistic to remove the door in the kitchen only if you are installing an electric stove.
• The gas tap cannot be located directly above the stove, in the heating zone.
• The electric cable must not be crossed by the gas pipeline.
• The gas tap should always be near the appliance, not outside the kitchen.
• The gas water heater, according to the requirements for the room, cannot be near the window.

The stove can stand so that the approach to it is comfortable and safe. This applies to both standard hobs and modern hobs.

There are a few guidelines that are helpful to read before starting your redevelopment.

• You need to place a gas hob or a separate stove at an interval of 50 cm from windows or doors. It is unacceptable to move the stove to the window. The prescribed distance cannot be arbitrarily reduced either. If a draft occurs, it can lead to the ignition of flammable objects or, on the contrary, extinguish the flame with the gas turned on.
• The stove should be located strictly near the gas distribution and ventilation compartment, with free access to the shut-off valve.
• If you are replacing a gas model with an electric stove, the wiring must be strong.
• You cannot put a gas stove in the corner near the refrigerator - as in any other place next to refrigeration equipment.

The heat from the stove inevitably forces the refrigerator to work harder. The warmer it is around, the more the compressor produces cold. The device itself is technically designed for strict compressor auto-off times. When external temperature readings rise, the compressor is literally worn out to maintain the desired temperature.

As a result, equipment breaks down faster. And if the stove is also turned on almost all the time, then even modern equipment breaks down ahead of time. On average, five years after buying a refrigerator, if it works next to the stove, fatal breakdowns occur. Repairs can be so expensive that owners are thinking about buying new equipment.

Many owners are sure that such a neighborhood is not dangerous, and even convenient, but this is not so. If you have an electric stove, then the border zone with a sink is always the risk of a short circuit. If you have a gas stove, there is a danger of explosion.

Also, do not discount the burns of the skin and mucous membranes under the influence of boiling oil. If you are washing dishes and meat is being fried on the stove nearby, for example, water that gets into the pan can really provoke a burn. The greater the distance between the hob and the sink, the more comfortable the cooking process.

If you are going to move the stove, consultation of specialists from the gas service of your city is required. Any assembly and disassembly work is carried out by specialists authorized for these actions. Transfer is not carried out without agreement with gas workers!

There are certain rules on how to get a travel permit.

1. Contact the specialists by phone, they will give an initial consultation, after which you may have to issue an application for the transfer of equipment.
2. After the application is written and submitted to the relevant structures, the approval process is launched. On the basis of the application, a specialist will come to your home (the time is negotiated).
3. He inspects the kitchen, you voice your wishes for how far you are going to move the stove from the main installation site. If you have previously studied the requirements and standards for the installation of a gas pipeline, then many points are omitted.
4. The specialist approves the final transfer scheme of the plate, makes an estimate. The paperwork is handled by the organization that will move the stove. If the landlord does not agree, the work is not carried out.
5. If you are satisfied with the transfer conditions proposed by the specialist, then according to the receipt provided, you need to pay for the services, agree on the transfer day.

As for the timing, the approval procedure will take 5-10 days. The problem is postponed for a long time if the apartment owners do not agree to the proposals of the gas service employees. But a compromise will have to be found, and it always fits into the framework of the standards. The distance from the wall to the slab cannot be reduced bypassing the requirements. Unauthorized transfer is a violation of the law, in this case fines cannot be avoided.

To do without problems, study the corresponding document - SNiP 2.04.08-87 *. It is imperative to equip the room where the stove is located, natural supply and exhaust ventilation (to organize air exchange). This means that it is impossible to equip a room in a room without a window with working vents, as well as without a ventilation duct with a satisfactory exhaust hood.

Cutting off the shut-off valve pipe is inadmissible, it is an integral element of the gas system. It is impossible to independently replace even a flexible liner, and even more so to organize the movement or extension of pipes. This is done only by an employee of the gas service.

But at the stage of negotiating with specialists, specify what you need to purchase for the transfer. A bellows hose may be required. The installers will bring metal pipes themselves, but their cost is included in the estimate for transferring the slab. If you free the kitchen in advance from unnecessary furniture and objects that interfere with the dismantling process, it will be easier for the craftsmen to work. They usually announce all the requirements before coming to the house.

The appearance of flexible long gas lines led to the fact that the internal gas pipeline was much less likely to be transported. But the issue is still unique, and representatives of the gas service are regularly faced with such appeals. If you need such a service, do not even think about unauthorized actions - at least this can result in a fine. But the situation can lead to tragedy, which is much more dangerous.
