Built-in small kitchens
Built-in small kitchens have become very popular not only in small apartments, but also in spacious studios or country cottages used for seasonal living. Compact dimensions allow them to create conditions for rational space planning. But before ordering an individual configuration option, it is worthwhile to study all the features of a built-in headset. It can be classic, consisting exclusively of furniture modules. But options with built-in appliances are much more common.
Choosing the right set and determining its location in small kitchens helps clear planning. It is necessary to very carefully delimit the zones in the space: separate the dining area from the functional, conveniently distribute all the necessary electrical appliances, equip a sanitary block with a sink and a cutting table. Every detail is of great importance here, therefore, you need to take a very serious approach to completing the kitchen.
What is the difference?
In a small area of 6–8 m2, it is the built-in kitchen that gives the greatest freedom of action. The simplest solution is to form a straight structure from wall to wall. It can be made narrower, providing significant space savings. If you cannot accommodate everything you need, you can use corner solutions with classic cabinets or a bar counter. Additionally, you can equip mezzanines that allow you to store heavy and bulky utensils. An interesting solution is the convertible versions with folding or roll-out work surfaces.
As for the technical equipment, it is worth carefully considering access to communications. In a kitchen space with built-in appliances, at least 5 outlets are required. Compact dimensions require precise distribution of modules. The stove or hob is placed separately from other appliances and sinks, not mounted near a window. It is its location that will have to be planned in the first place.
Furniture
Many residents of apartments and houses often wonder what kind of furniture is suitable for a small kitchen. When choosing the elements of a headset, a number of criteria should be taken into account.
- Dimensions. The length varies from 2 to 4 m, depending on the configuration of the room. The depth of countertops and work surfaces is mainly determined by the dimensions of the plate and does not exceed 60 cm on average. The exhaust equipment is mounted directly above the plate, the height is similar to that of the top row of cabinets (about 70 cm from the table top).
- Materials. They must be durable, abrasion resistant and easy to clean. For the countertop, you should choose an artificial stone: it will provide the necessary level of sanitary safety. Facade structures require the use of coatings that are easy to wet clean. The simplest solution would be to use plastic, metal, embossed glass. Natural wood will be appropriate only in the Scandinavian interior style.
- Layout. The more elements a headset has, the more complex its configuration will be. The simplest choice would be to use L-shaped or U-shaped structures. In a square room, modules can be placed on opposite walls.
What technique is essential?
A modern kitchen should be equipped with convenient appliances, a complete set of which greatly facilitates the life of a modern homeowner. Built-in furniture allows you to hide most of the appliances. So, behind the sliding panels, you can place a washing machine, and dishwashers can be hidden behind the facade in the same style with the entire set. If we are not talking about creating a family life with borscht, the refrigerator and freezer can be made quite compact - placed behind separate facades one above the other.
A full-fledged stove in the space of a small kitchen takes up a lot of space. It will be much easier to solve the problem without radical changes - only with the help of the hob. The oven can be placed separately: in the middle tier, from the edge of the entire kitchen block. Convenient for embedding and microwave oven. Unlike an oven, it does not heat up, allowing for a high level of safety in use. Additionally, you can build in a cooler, a wine cabinet with a thermostat and even a "sound" system.
Color solution
The choice of color is of great importance for a small kitchen. When it comes to finding the best option for a modern, youthful style of space design, you should choose laconic solutions in the spirit of high-tech, black, white, silver. For a family kitchen or a cozy bachelor's nest, bright, cheerful shades are suitable. Juicy orange, rich yellow, coral, grassy green, lime, aqua tones - these colors will help push the boundaries of space.
When choosing a built-in headset in a classic style, it is worth resorting to the tricks of Scandinavian designers, giving preference to light or bleached shades of natural wood. Dark massive cabinets and shelves will be out of place and take up a significant portion of the space that can be used much more profitably.
What to consider when completing?
Small kitchens require careful attention to detail. Correctly selected lighting may well solve the problem of comfort in using even a small area of space. Economical spot lighting can be located both inside cabinets and above work areas. Glossy mirror aprons and countertops will help to visually expand the space and make it less crowded with details.
It is necessary to complete a kitchen set with complex geometry with rounded facade elements. They will allow you to achieve maximum ergonomics, provide comfort and ease of use of the modules. It is better to refuse swing doors, replacing them with sliding ones. Drawers are deprived of handles by installing a push-to-open system. This approach will allow you to get rid of unnecessary protrusions, provide significant savings in free space.
Well-stocked, custom-built miniature fitted kitchens are the perfect addition to standard or private residences. With their help, you can achieve significant space savings and make the room as convenient to use as possible.
