The yielding gooseberry variety Uralskiy besshorny belongs to the dessert species. It boasts good resistance to various diseases and pests, excellent taste characteristics.
Description of the variety
The gooseberry variety Uralsky Besshyny is distinguished by vigorous bushes, they have medium spreading, medium density. They have good branching, the branches are directed in an upright position.
The variety has no thorns. The shoots of vegetation have a yellow-gray color, they have an average thickness. The shoots are quite powerful and lignified.
The leaves on shrubs are of a three-lobed type, they have a bright green color. Their surface is wrinkled, slightly wavy.
The flowers on the plant are small, with an average diameter of 10-12 millimeters. Their colors are bright crimson. But over time, they start to fade.
Characteristics of berries
Ripe fruits of this variety are relatively large in size. The weight of one berry can reach about 8-9 grams. They have an oval shape, rich emerald color with a slight sheen. The peel on the fruit is quite dense, and the flesh is juicy.
Taste qualities
Ural besshipny gooseberry has a pleasant sweet taste, while you can feel a slight sourness.
Ripening and fruiting
Uralsky besshorny is a medium late variety. Plants begin to bear fruit 2-3 years after planting.
Yield
The variety is considered fruitful. This variety allows you to get about 5.5-7.9 kilograms of fresh fruits from one bush.
Landing
The planting of such a gooseberry is carried out according to the scheme 2.2 x 1.5 meters.
Growing and care
Before planting young seedlings, you should choose the most suitable place for this. This culture is photophilous, therefore, the place must be chosen so that it is well lit. In shaded areas, you will not be able to get a large harvest.
And also the place should not be near groundwater, because excessive moisture will quickly lead to rotting of the root system and the development of fungus. Bushes can be planted in a permanent place in spring and autumn.
The size of the planting holes will depend on the size of the bushes. Most often, their depth is about 0.5 m. Nutrient fertilizers are necessarily introduced into the dug holes, including wood ash, potassium sulfide, rotted organic matter (fallen leaves, manure), double superphosphate.
Before you start planting gooseberries, you will need to remove all old and dried roots from the ground. Vegetation should be placed in the planting pits as carefully as possible so as not to damage the root systems.
In order for the gooseberry to grow and develop normally, it will be necessary to regularly weed and dig up the soil. If the plants are grown on dense soil, then digging is performed with a shovel, and if on loose soil, with a pitchfork.
Don't forget about fertilizers. The best options for such vegetation are saltpeter, potassium chloride, superphosphate, manure and compost.
During the year, fertilizing is applied twice. In this case, the first time fertilizers are used after flowering, and the second time after harvest.
The formation of bushes also plays an important role. In the first years after planting, this procedure will be aimed at creating the base of the bush. Perennial varieties need to be shortened by almost half.
Disease and pest resistance
The Uralsky beshipny variety boasts a special resistance to various diseases and pests. Sometimes it can be affected by powdery mildew, when a characteristic white bloom appears on the lower part of the foliage, then the upper sections are covered with a bloom of silver color. Powdery mildew is promoted by excessive moisture levels.
Sometimes gooseberries can also be affected by anthracnose. In this case, small brown-brown spots will appear on the leaves on both sides, small black shiny tubercles appear in their middle. The disease develops actively in rainy and hot weather. The causative agent of the disease is a harmful fungus.
If signs of the above diseases are found, all damaged parts are immediately removed and burned. After that, it is better to treat the vegetation with ready-made fungicides.
And also such a culture can be damaged by a kidney moth, it gnaws out young buds, they eventually dry out. The gooseberry moth gnaws the flesh of the berries, the sawflies eat the leaf plates.
To fight various diseases and harmful insects, it is best to use ready-made biological preparations. At the beginning of the budding period, the culture can be sprayed with Rovikurt. It will protect the gooseberry from aphids, sawflies. As a prophylaxis, treatment with Bordeaux liquid (2%) is often used.
Insecticides, including "Aktara", "Confidor Extra", can also be suitable for the destruction of pests. Celandine weed possesses insecticidal properties. To prepare a healing infusion, 1 kilogram of such dried grass or 4 kilograms of fresh raw materials are poured with one bucket of warm water, in this form everything is left in a warm place for 35 hours, then the finished composition is filtered, and the gooseberry is sprayed with the resulting liquid. Colloidal sulfur also helps fight pests.
In the autumn period, sanitary treatment of the bushes is mandatory.During this procedure, all diseased and damaged parts are removed. In this case, it is better to treat all places of cuts with disinfectants.
The plant and the ground around the gooseberry are treated with Nitrafen. The soil is then watered abundantly and mulched with thick peat.
In order for the gooseberry to produce a good harvest, it is necessary to devote time to disease prevention.
