How to choose a Scandinavian style bed?
Residents of Scandinavia do without pretentiousness and ambiguity in the interior. They place all pieces of furniture in their homes in a laconic and traditional style, emphasizing their freedom and strength.
Peculiarities
The Scandinavian style bed is usually small in size and rectangular in shape. Occurs with wood carving or metal forging at the head. The sleeping place is chosen in the center of the room, where the bed is installed (the headboard is placed against the wall).
Bedside tables are placed on the sides, which can be replaced with soft poufs, and light shelves can be hung above them. Everything in the bedroom should be practical and create a cozy atmosphere. Minimalism in everything, without clutter - these are the main rules.
When choosing a bed in this style, it is advisable to take into account the following features.
- Beds of this type are distinguished by a rough processing of the frame part and the headboard. They are made from wooden blocks on which you can distinguish the natural pattern of the cut of the wood. The shape at the headboard is found in a rounded form, but in most cases these are still straight, clean lines.
- In terms of size, the berth should not take up much space. The Nordic style bed is compact in length and width, but rather tall. It is made on stable legs - and this is another feature of such furniture.
- The base of the furniture is quite massive. Such a frame is very reliable and at the same time emphasizes all the power and greatness of the Scandinavian direction.
For this style, lighting plays an important role, therefore, some bed models are available immediately with built-in lighting elements.

Depending on the number of beds, the beds are single and double. The first, respectively, are designed for one person, in their manufacture, as a rule, no more than 15 wooden slats are used. They come in the following sizes:
- 80-120 cm wide;
- from 190 to 210 cm in length.
The double (double) bed can easily accommodate 2 people. The dimensions of this design:
- 160 to 230 cm wide;
- from 200 to 220 cm in length.
There is also a one-and-a-half bed with one sleeping place with medium size between a single and a double bed. To ensure the versatility of the furniture, designs are made with built-in drawers. But there are also internal storage cells - these beds come with a lifting mechanism. These models are not very comfortable, since there is a need to constantly raise the bed with a mattress, but they are chosen when there is little space in the room for things.
If you need a baby bed, you can choose a cottage bed - an acceptable stylish option for one child. But to put two children to bed, a children's bunk bed would be a good solution.
Materials (edit)
Naturalness in everything - this main principle of the Scandinavian style also applies to furniture: no plastic, other synthetic compounds, but only natural materials. Natural wood beds are an all-time hit. Often for this, craftsmen use wooden log cabins, so you can see the annual rings of natural material right on the furniture. To obtain a beautiful texture, modern furniture makers glue together wooden blocks of different colors, using grinding and milling to obtain a smooth and even surface.
Separately, the carving, which is made by hand, is highlighted, it usually decorates the head of the bed - such furniture is always in price and symbolizes a sign of grandeur and luxury. Often the beds come with wrought-iron white metal supports - this also gives a certain majesty. More luxurious and expensive options can be found with glass, ceramic or natural stone inserts. Well, and finally, textiles - beds and mattresses are upholstered with the same natural materials (leather, cotton, linen).
Beautiful examples in the interior
The history of the Scandinavian style originates from small rooms, where there was a minimum of furniture. The trend has been preserved at the present stage, and in order to visually increase the space of the room, light shades are chosen. These colors are also applied to the bed. Pastel shades and light colors are some examples in the interior.
- The combination of beige and white creates coziness and tranquility. The upholstery of the bed frame is made of linen in a slightly beige tone, against this background white bedding looks spectacular. A soft fluffy blanket made of natural fur is suitable as a bedspread.
- The combination of dark blue and white will create the illusion of a marine theme (travel by sea) and involuntarily take the owner to distant cold lands. A dark color stands out at the headboard - it can be upholstery or textiles on the pillows, and the bed is made in white. The option of beige or sandy shades is possible.
- A combination of three colors - red, gray and beige - designed to create an atmosphere of stability and comfort. A beige wooden bed is chosen, covered with a gray bedspread so that the legs of the bed peep out from under it. And on top are randomly distributed cotton pillows with red or burgundy pillowcases.
- Gray and check - another motive typical for the Scandinavian style interior. Simplicity and sophistication in one design. For example, the bed is made in a gray version, then checkered bedding is selected, and a warm fur blanket is used on top to match the textiles.
After sleep, many Scandinavians deliberately do not collect bed linen, but only throw a fur blanket on top or a textile blanket of the corresponding color. They consider this a symbol of emancipation and freedom - to live without a certain framework. But in order for the furniture to serve for a long time, they take care of it: they wipe the frame, treat it with a protective compound and monitor the serviceability of the moving mechanisms.
Changing the bed often is also not in the style of northern Europeans. Furniture is bought or made to order for many years.
