Canopy beds are a luxurious and romantic solution for classic interiors. However, there are also more casual models that combine features of several styles. The furniture has a high level of comfort and will appeal to all those who are used to feeling free while sleeping.

The canopy is associated with the eras of rulers, kings and royalty who sought to equip the bedroom in accordance with their status. The beds were decorated with precious stones, the frame was made of rare varieties of trees, only expensive fabrics were used. In addition, the furniture was massive and had large dimensions, even if it was intended for only one person.

However, such a bed model appeared long before it became part of the palace interiors. The canopy was originally used to protect against mosquitoes, and now it can still be used for this purpose. And in Russia, children’s cradles were traditionally covered with cloth to hide the child from drafts, insects and moisture. For furnishing a bedroom in a traditional style, a bed is most often purchased. It is elegant and central to the interior. As a rule, the models are large, therefore they are located in spacious rooms. Beds are suitable for couples, and newlyweds will feel a special, romantic atmosphere. Curtains protect the peace of the sleeping people, create a feeling of being closed from everything; this is especially felt when there are other people in the room.

Girls will be able to feel like princesses and will rejoice before every bedtime. For very young children, curtains will protect them from external influences.

Four-poster beach beds are an original solution for hotels, hotels, holiday homes or for summer cottages. The furniture is located on the street and is intended for daytime relaxation; the fabric is used to protect a person from bright sunlight. There are several types of canopies. They can be sewn from flowing translucent fabrics that create a romantic atmosphere or heavy curtains that shield a sleeping person from the outside world. • With a horizontal support. The bar is located on the wall above the central part of the berth. In this case, the canopy is not part of the bed and can be changed or removed altogether.

• Cantilever construction. It can be rectangular or round and is installed above the center of the bed. A lot of space is required for the installation of the structure, therefore it is located only in large bedrooms.

• On the cornice. It can be rectangular, triangular or curved and is installed on the ceiling.

There is also a frameless way of attaching the canopy, which creates the effect of a flying fabric. For mounting, hooks and other holders are used that are mounted directly on the wall.

Canopies are present in the interiors of different countries and peoples, so you can pick up curtains in almost any style. Popular brands offer a variety of designs, colors, decorative elements, which makes it easy to find the perfect model. Types of canopy beds:

• Traditional. Historically established styles include baroque, rococo, gothic, romanticism. They require compliance with strict rules and regulations, which include an abundance of luxury and decor. Initially, four-poster beds were used specifically for such bedrooms, so models will look best in a classic interior.

• Oriental style. The canopy bed can be found in the culture of countries such as Japan, Morocco, India, China. Curtains suspended above the beds contribute to relaxation and tranquility. • Modern. We are talking about styles such as country, Provence, ethnic, Scandinavian. For them, plain curtains are suitable, which will become a symbol of European calmness and restraint. The frame is made of wood, it must retain its natural color, so paint and varnish will be inappropriate.

• Loft, hi-tech, minimalism. An original and less common solution that looks no less attractive with a competent selection of interior items. The beds have metal and plastic parts, the canopy consists of fabric panels, it is devoid of folds and draperies. For bedspreads, it is better to choose plain fabrics.

When combining styles, you should consider the basic design rules. In particular, take 1-2 colors as a basis, do not overdo it with the decor and use elements similar in tone or pattern as binders.

The quality and aesthetic characteristics of a bed depend on the raw materials from which it is made. It is divided into two types: fabric and base materials. Classic models have a frame made of wood - solid pine, spruce, cherry, ash, oak. In addition, chipboards can be used to create individual partitions. An iron bed serves for a long time, it is easy to assemble and unfold into its constituent elements, however, it lacks elegance and is not suitable for traditional interiors.

A bedspread or bedding should be combined with a canopy. If the top is decorated with ornaments, choose a solid bottom and vice versa. Otherwise, the design will be oversaturated with details.

The canopy should also not be bulky so that it does not come into contact with the ceiling.

The sleeping place can be in the center, the rest of the objects will then be located along the walls. It is important to consider the height of the bed itself and its frame, otherwise it will not fit in a room with a low ceiling.

Since the four-poster bed will take center stage in the bedroom, it will set the main color tone of the room. White or black furniture implies a minimalist style of the room. These shades are referred to as universal, since they are combined with almost everything, however, monochrome colors are also appropriate. A light bed looks with similar walls, neutral flooring. If red, blue or emerald fabric was used to decorate it, the rest of the items will have a similar color.

The chosen color depends purely on the personal preferences of the owner of the apartment and the chosen style, so there is no universal option for arranging a bedroom. The only rule that cannot be violated is the need to select shades that are compatible with each other. The purpose of the room is also important: the bedroom is intended for relaxation, so the colors should have a pacifying effect on the psyche.

When choosing a four-poster bed, take into account the area of ​​the room and the features of its design. For a small bedroom, small single models are purchased; in this case, the curtains should also not be raised too high. It should be borne in mind that a massive bed will visually reduce the room. This effect is minimized by using light shades and not overloading the space with decor.

Purchase criteria:

• Dimensions of the bed. Since it will be located in a specific room, furniture of the appropriate size is selected for it. It also depends on whether the model can be brought into the room. If it is not fully disassembled, it may not fit in the doorway.
• Canopy fabric. All of them are draped in their own way and require special care. Heavy velvet curtains look rich, however, to install them, you will need a particularly durable curtain rod. Thin translucent fabrics will not protect a person from light in the morning, they can easily tear. When buying, the best solution would be to touch the material from which the canopy is made, since much also depends on the tactile sensations of each person.
• The material from which the frame is made. The service life of the product directly depends on this. Wooden arrays are strong, resistant to mechanical shock, however, they do not tolerate high humidity and are susceptible to combustion, therefore, preference should be given to frames treated with special solutions. As for the metal and plastic elements, they will only be appropriate in modern bedrooms.
• Stylish solution of the bedroom. No matter how beautiful the bed is, it will look stupid in the wrong interior. Before buying furniture, it is recommended to contact professional designers or read special literature on the compatibility of colors and individual interior items.

For canopies, choose bright fabrics decorated with a cage, patterns or contrasting details - so the nursery will look bright and lively.

A canopy made of separate patches falling at a considerable distance from a piece of furniture will create the feeling of a sphere, a separate room. The light from the bedside lamp, seeping through the curtains, will scatter in an original way, and the visible silhouette of the bed will create an atmosphere of mystery and mystery.
