A sick spine worries many people. For back problems, it is important to get a comfortable sleeping place that will follow the curves of the body and provide maximum comfort during sleep. For these purposes, a mattress with independent springs is suitable, which can be matched to any bed.

What it is?

The orthopedic mattress is equipped with a spine support system, so such products are recommended for people with a sore back... The model guarantees maximum comfort during sleep, it promotes muscle relaxation and allows you to get better sleep. When buying a mattress, the difference with dependent springs must be taken into account. The division is based on the design features of the products.

Dependent springs are made in the form of cones connected to each other. When a load is exerted on the mattress, not a specific spring is squeezed, but several at once, due to which the orthopedic properties of the block are reduced.

It has the effect of a hammock, therefore it is not suitable for people with a curvature of the spine.

Mattresses with independent springs have greater rigidity and elasticity. Each spring is located in a case, so they work autonomously. Thanks to this, the block follows the curves of the body, contributing to the support of the spine in a natural position and good blood circulation.

In addition, these blocks do not creak at night, which also promotes sound sleep.

PU foam, latex, coconut and independent spring block: which is better?

The most common mattress fillers are latex and coconut. The first is synthetic and natural, it is more flexible and elastic. Coconut mattresses are more rigid, they help to fix the back in one position.

A variant is possible when both materials are used simultaneously.

PPU (or polyurethane foam) is an artificial material with a cellular structure. It is environmentally friendly, lightweight and has a high level of rigidity.

Spring types

The blocks differ from each other in the shape and density of the springs. Focusing on the listed characteristics, there are several types of mattresses that can withstand different loads and differ in durability. This also affects the price of products: reinforced models have the most beneficial effect on the spine, however, the price for them is also higher.

Classification of mattresses with independent springs:

  • Pocket Spring (TFK, S-500). The simplest type of mattress. The diameter of the springs is 5-6 cm, they account for about 220-300 pieces per square meter. The maximum supported weight is 120 kg.
  • Multipocket (S-1000). The density of springs in such a block is almost twice as high - due to a decrease in their diameter.
  • Micropocket (S-2000). Equipped with the smallest springs - only 2-2.6 cm in size. The density of their placement reaches 1200 pieces per square meter, due to which the model is characterized by point elasticity.
  • "Hour Glass"... The springs are in the shape of an hourglass and are an innovative development in the field of mattresses with independent springs. The combination of three levels of firmness makes the model suitable for couples with significant weight differences.
  • "Dual Spring". The mattress consists of blocks with two springs, a large and a small one. They are located in each other, the inner one has greater rigidity, which increases the maximum permissible load level.
  • Reinforced. For the manufacture of such springs, the thickest springs are taken. The mattresses can support a total weight of up to 150 kg.
  • With zones of stiffness. The mattress contains springs of different stiffness - for even distribution of loads.

The names of the spring blocks may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, but this does not affect the quality and service life of the products.

Excipients

Spring blocks (like frameless mattresses) contain fillers. Both natural and synthetic raw materials are used, on which the service life and the final cost of the products depend.

So, what are the fillers:

  • Polyurethane foam. Artificial material with memory effect. Due to its special physical and mechanical properties, the filler slowly regains its shape after compression and exerts less pressure on the blood vessels.
  • Latex. It has a higher density and rigidity than polyurethane foam, and is resistant to wear. A filler is considered natural, which contains from 20 to 85% of natural rubber. Most of the latex is contained in premium mattresses.
  • Holofiber and Struttofiber... Artificial nonwovens made from polyesters. Natural fibers may be added to them. The filler is characterized by density and wear resistance.
  • Coira. Latex impregnated coconut fiber. It is used for mattresses of medium firmness and has an affordable price.

In an effort to reduce the cost of production, manufacturers can use thinner layers of filler or place it on one side only. To determine this, it is enough to compare several mattresses. A thin block will quickly fail, will have a weak orthopedic effect, so you should not chase the reduced cost of goods.

The size

Mattresses of the appropriate size are selected for each bed. Spring blocks are purchased for double, single and one-and-a-half models. The largest mattresses are 160x200 and 140x200 cm. Double mattresses are designed for couples and for those who are used to sleeping in large beds.

Those people who live alone can choose blocks with dimensions of 90 × 190 and 160 × 80 cm, and the length is selected depending on the height of the person.

When buying a mattress, its thickness is also taken into account.... The high spring block rises 28 cm above the bed surface and is very comfortable. There are also compact models with dimensions 125 × 65 × 18, they are intended for children.

How much does it weigh?

A characteristic feature of the spring blocks is their considerable weight. In addition, they often cannot be rolled up, which makes it difficult to transport the products. Therefore, it is recommended to find out from the very beginning how much individual mattress models weigh on average. For small models, this criterion ranges from 10-20 kg, and it depends on the number and density of the springs, the type of filler.

The weight of a one-and-a-half mattress is 20-35 kg, models for two - about 45 kg. The heavy ones include spring blocks with layers of latex and coconut. When planning to purchase bulky models, they usually think over how they will be transported.

A convenient option would be to choose a store with delivery, since then the owner of the apartment will only have to bring in the mattress.

Life time

The lifespan of mattresses depends on the type of springs and the raw materials used. High-quality products will last for more than one year; there are also models that are covered by a 25-year warranty. Maximum durability is only achieved when the unit is properly cared for, cleaned and steamed, bed linen is changed regularly and mattress covers are used to protect the product from dirt and external influences.

Rating of manufacturers and models

Spring blocks are conventionally divided into groups depending on the manufacturer. The highest quality products include products made in Europe. It complies with generally accepted quality standards and is recognized by the world community. Cheap, but low-quality mattresses are made in China. There is an option when Western companies open a factory in Asia and produce goods there using original technologies.

Well-known manufacturers of independent spring units:

  • Dreamline. The brand offers a wide range of mattresses to suit any bed size. The collections include models of different rigidity, with an orthopedic effect.
  • "Toris". Popular are mattresses equipped with several hundred springs. Among the well-known spring blocks, the Plato model can be distinguished, which has an average level of rigidity. The line includes mattresses for children.
  • Askona. Domestic company occupying the middle price segment. It attracts the audience with affordable prices combined with decent product quality. As a filler in such mattresses, polyurethane foam is mainly used.
  • Ormatek. The assortment is represented by mattresses at different prices. There are both economy class models and luxury products for expensive interiors. The collections are represented, among other things, by blocks with a small number of springs - they are not recommended for those with a large weight.

For more details about the advantages, advantages and features of choosing Ormatek mattresses, see the next video.

How to choose?

There are three types of mattresses with independent springs. Their separation is based on the rigidity of the filler, on which the service life and performance characteristics of products depend:

  • Soft mattresses have a small width, suitable for budget beds.
  • Models of medium hardness represent an optimal ratio of quality and price. They are distinguished by their elasticity and are widely used in bedding.
  • The toughest spring block has the best orthopedic properties and is designed for people with a sore spine.

A separate group is allocated to a children's mattress.... It has the same design features as models for adults, but it must be of great quality and rigidity (to ensure the correct development of a growing organism).

How to store and care for it?

In order for the mattress to maintain its performance characteristics for many years, you should follow the rules for caring for it. The spring block needs to be turned over periodically to stabilize the internal structure. It is recommended to do this once every 1-3 months.

You cannot jump on the mattress, otherwise it will quickly lose its elasticity, and when you try to fold the spring block, it may deform.

During cleaning, contact with water is completely excluded, which can harm both the metal springs and the filler. Care should also be taken with cleaning agents that can corrode the surface of the mattress. For the convenience of consumers, models often have how-to labels on the units.

Reviews

Consumers note the durability of mattresses with an independent spring block. Models are resilient and resistant to wear, they are durable. Popular are mattresses with sides of different rigidity: such a block can be turned over depending on the preferences of a particular person.

Product owners note that the models deform less over time and almost do not bend, however, these characteristics largely depend on the chosen filler. It is recommended to take a mattress with coconut and latex.

The relatively low price is another advantage of the products, thanks to which such a mattress can be purchased even with a limited budget. Models are usually color-neutral, so they will go well with any furniture. It is also worth noting that independent spring blocks are presented in a wide range of sizes.
