Bed frames
The bed is one of the most important interior items in any home, be it a city apartment or a cozy country house. It should be as comfortable and attractive as possible. The operational characteristics of such furniture and its service life largely depend on the frame and base. These parts can be made from different materials and have different properties.
Features of the structure of the bed
More recently, only traditional rectangular bed models were present on the furniture market. They have an attractive appearance and are very comfortable, but they are not suitable for all layouts and many people got tired of their design.
Today in stores you can find many different beds that have unusual and non-standard shapes:
- Ideal for strict and discreet interiors angular square bed. Such varieties look harmonious even in small rooms. Often, owners of studio apartments that are fashionable in our time turn to such bedroom furniture. Most often, these interior elements are purchased for rooms made in modern or minimalist styles.
- An interesting and eye-catching design is possessed by oval, round and semicircular beds. Such furniture can revive the interior of a living room, but it is not suitable for all areas. Rounded products, as a rule, have large dimensions, so they can only be placed in spacious rooms.
- Functional models are very popular nowadays, equipped with spacious storage boxes... With the help of such additions, you can get rid of unnecessary and bulky furniture in the room, because you can now store many things in the bed, and not in the closets. Most often, such simple storage systems are installed at the bottom of the furniture. If we are talking about a bed with a lifting mechanism, then it often has the largest and most spacious drawers designed to accommodate large items.
- Beds boast an elegant and elegant appearance with curved frames... As a rule, beautiful wavy models are equipped with high headboards, and the smooth slopes of the frame act as a foot in them. Such furniture fits perfectly into modern and fashionable ensembles. Curved beds are not suitable for classics. In such variants, there are often small and barely noticeable legs made of different materials.
- Are enviable popularity sliding products. When folded, such models are single berths that easily fit into both large and small areas. If you expand such a bed, then a more spacious bed will open in front of you. As a rule, such mechanisms are located at the bottom of the furniture on the side or in the front.
- Multifunctional and in demand are bunk beds. These varieties are especially relevant for families with two children. But do not think that such furniture is made only for younger users. Modern furniture factories produce high-quality and comfortable models designed for use by adults. It is worth noting that such options are often equipped not only with convenient storage systems, but also folding sofas, tables and cabinets for storing books and magazines.
Such specimens are able to accommodate several functional areas at once. For example, with the help of such furniture, you can place a sleeping place and a student's corner in one place in a children's bedroom.
- They can boast of an interesting appearance corner beds. Furniture with this design has recently appeared on the Russian market, but has already become very popular and in demand. Most often, corner models are placed in one of the free corners in the bedroom. You should not place such a bed in the center, otherwise the interior will turn out to be ugly.
Corner beds are complemented by high bumpers. Because of these details, such interior items often seem too large, although they are actually small in size. For this reason, they are far from suitable for all layouts, and their selection should be approached very carefully.
Dimensions (edit)
When choosing a suitable bed, you need to pay special attention to the dimensions of the frame. The dimensions of these parts in double models are most often 90x210, 140x190, 140x200, 160x190, 160x200, 180x200, 200x200, 200x220 cm.The size of one-and-a-half models can be: 120x190, 120x200 cm.Single-bed models are produced with dimensions 80x190, 90x190, 80x200, , 90x210, 100x200 cm.
Children's beds have more modest dimensions: 70x160 cm. However, there are also such copies in furniture stores in which there are frames with a width of more than 200 cm. Such models are called "royal".
There are several types of spacious "king" beds:
- California. The dimensions of these products are 152x213 cm.
- Olympic. These models are 168x203 cm in size.
- Eastern. The size of these types of beds is most often 193x203 cm.
Often, consumers are faced with the difficulty of choosing the right bed due to the non-standard layout of the bedroom. To solve this problem, it is recommended to purchase furniture according to your individual order.
This option will cost more, but you will get the perfect bed that will harmoniously fit into the layout of your bedroom.
Materials (edit)
For the production of bed frames, both natural and artificial materials are used. The most durable, reliable, durable and wear-resistant is a metal (made of shaped pipe or brass) frame. Furniture with such a base can serve its users for more than a decade and will not cause any particular difficulties during operation.
However, it should be borne in mind that furniture with a metal frame, as a rule, has a more impressive weight. For this reason, such beds are not mobile, as it is rather difficult to rearrange them from one place to another. It is recommended to place such interior items on the highest quality and durable floor coverings, since over time, ugly marks and noticeable damage can remain on the floor from an overweight bed.
It should be borne in mind that the iron bed will not fit into all interiors.
Beds equipped with wooden frames have excellent performance properties. Such specimens are environmentally friendly and durable. The main disadvantage of such models is their high cost. Not every consumer can afford a bed made of natural wood. For the manufacture of such bases can be used not very expensive and flexible pine or birch. Pine furniture is recommended for children's bedrooms.
More expensive are products with frames made of durable and hard oak, hevea or tropical wenge wood. Such furniture looks spectacular in classic, oriental and rustic ensembles. Interior items with frames made of MDF or chipboard are inexpensive. Beds made from these popular materials can be attractive and stylish in design, but their performance is often poor.
Over time, such furniture can become squeaky and get noticeable defects. In addition, chipboard is a toxic material. It contains wood waste, which are glued together with special formaldehyde resins. In conditions of high temperatures or their drops, such furniture can emit substances hazardous to human health.
Conscientious manufacturers deal with this problem simply: they cover the chipboard with high-quality veneer. Such furniture is more expensive but safer.
Pallet beds are available to everyone. Such furniture can be easily made by hand, even if you do not have special knowledge and skills in this area. Do not think that pallets are unstable and prone to breakage. To create an original bed, it is best to use special Euro pallets, which are distinguished by their strength and durability. Such furniture can be moved to a new place at any time, repainted or changed its shape.
Also, the bed frame can be made of pliable drywall. This furniture can be made by hand. But it should be borne in mind that when creating a bed, drywall can only be partially used. The main material in such a product should be plywood or a strong metal profile. Many people choose this very inexpensive material, as it lends itself easily to any processing. For example, drywall can be sheathed with eco-friendly wood panels, decorative plaster or paint of your favorite color.
Colors
Bed frames can be of different colors: from classic to colorful and rich. The choice of the ideal option should be in accordance with the personal preferences of the owners, as well as taking into account the style of the room's interior:
- White options look beautiful and elegant. But we must not forget that beds in a similar color scheme can visually seem unnecessarily bulky. Because of this, furniture with a white frame should not be placed in a cramped room, despite the airy shade.
- Furniture with a contrasting black frame will look very impressive and stylish in the interior of any room. But do not put such a dark bed against the background of black walls and a black floor, otherwise it will simply get lost against the general background, and its design will lose all meaning.
- Classic brown is fashionable. Beds of this palette have a cozy and warm appearance, which is ideal for a bedroom, both large and small. The main advantage of this color is that it can be easily combined with many tones and shades in the interior.
- Sleeping furniture with a red or burgundy frame will look bold and sensual in a cozy room. Options made from natural mahogany are capable of giving the atmosphere a unique chic and shine. These beds fit perfectly into classic and gothic ensembles.
- Interior items with gray frames have an interesting and stylish design. If you place such furniture in a room made in neutral and calm colors, then the interior should be supplemented with bright accents so that it does not seem dull and depressing.
- Another refreshing color is classic - beige. Beds in this design look very soft and airy. They can be placed in both dark and light bedrooms.
What is the best base for the mattress?
The base is the support of the mattress. It attaches to the frame. Otherwise, this part is also called a lattice or frame. Some of the most popular are orthopedic slatted bases with lamellae. These elements are made of wood and represent a special sturdy frame. Special slats are attached to this frame. They can be straight or curved.
Most often, in the production of slatted bases, wood species such as beech or birch are used. The second option is the most affordable. There are also reinforced slatted bases designed for people with heavy weight. In such instances, the location of the lamellae is as close to each other as possible to ensure high-quality and reliable support that can withstand heavy loads.
The main advantage of such bases is their environmental friendliness. The lamellas are inexpensive, hold securely thanks to strong fasteners and are well ventilated. Of the disadvantages of rack options, one can single out the fact that over time, the mattress on such a surface can become wavy. This is due to the fact that there is no support between the slats in the base.
With the help of spring components, plastic bases are made. Often these mechanisms are complemented by remote controls that can be used to adjust the position of the mattress. Many people choose beds with plastic stems because of their excellent orthopedic support and durability. The average service life of such specimens is 15-20 years. Such options are quite durable and easy to operate.
The main disadvantage of plastic bases is their poor ventilation in the area of the lower part of the mattress. Such options are more expensive than rack and pinion. For many years, beds have been fitted with metal mesh bases. They are distinguished by enviable durability (at least 25 years), excellent orthopedic characteristics and more affordable cost than all of the above options.
Beds with such bases are not soft enough. Assembling furniture with similar elements is more difficult and can only be handled by a person with special knowledge and skills.
