Modern armchairs are generally reliable and sound. Those specimens that have been preserved from an earlier time also show themselves on a good side. But all the same, knowledge of the features of repairing chairs is very useful for any of their owners.

Old and worn out chairs are very easy to restore. And to give them a good appearance, you do not need to spend money on the services of professional workshops. All work, with rare exceptions, can be done with your own hands.

If you need to restore a chair with wooden armrests, the following will come in handy for this:

• stain (matched to the color of the furniture);
• balloon furniture varnish;
• construction stapler;
• vibration grinder;
• upholstery (special furniture or curtain fabric);
• screwdriver;
• hand or electric drill;
• foam rubber to strengthen the seats;
• wooden shield;
• wood glue.

To begin with, it is worth analyzing the progress of the general restoration of the old chair. Begin by removing the fabric from the bottom of the seat. To do this, remove the nuts. The next step is to open the plywood or fiberboard backdrop. When it is open, the nuts holding the armrests can be removed. Then remove the bolts securing the back and seat. These parts of the chair are disassembled into separate parts. Then you need to do something with the upholstery.

Anyway a lot of debris and dirt accumulates under the upholstery over the years of operation... When it is removed, all this rubbish must be removed. Additionally, old frame brackets are removed. Before restoration, all wooden parts are inspected so as not to miss the slightest breakage or crack. All defects are glued with wood glue and fixed on staples 1.6 cm.

New components are made from furniture board. Details must be sanded. First, the varnish is removed with a drill nozzle, and then all layers are removed with a grinding device so that the original color of the wood is exposed.

Workpieces cut from a wooden board are treated with stain. It will be absorbed in about 5-6 hours. After that, you can already apply the furniture varnish.

If such a problem arises, repairing the chairs with your own hands will not be any noticeable work. The chair is turned over, and the problematic rollers are pulled out. Then they dismantle the casings that cover the cross-section of the structure. There are plugs at its ends. If they are cracked, you can pull them out with a screwdriver.

The problem is that very few people sell "penny" plugs separately. Almost everywhere, more profitable ready-made crosspieces are sold. Therefore, before you go shopping, it is very good to clarify by phone whether there are such details in the store. The official descriptions on a number of sites are misleading.

It is not necessary to look for step-by-step instructions for repairing or replacing gas lifts. They can be repaired at home in just a few steps. True, then the structure will be rigidly fixed in one position. But for normal use, this is usually enough.

This is done like this:

• remove the crosspiece with a gas lift;
• maneuvering the pedal, raise it as high as possible;
• put a device on the rod that will prevent unauthorized descent (a rubber hose, a polypropylene tube, or a set of washers or metal rings).

The inability to raise the chair by pressing the lever is often associated with damage to the gas lift valve. Problems also occur due to damage to the control handle. It can also be assumed that the fastening mechanism was initially incorrectly fixed.

The chair may stop working properly due to the crosspiece. What exactly to do in a particular case is determined by the device of such a part. Plastic crosspieces break most often in the first six months of operation. Even if high-quality plastic is used, which is quite rare, intense loads still do their job.

In plastic products, the cause of failure is usually poor casting quality. For metal - wear of the material or weakening of the welded seams.

Those who are not ready and cannot perform them on their own should turn to professionals. Plastic crosspieces cannot be repaired and must be completely replaced.

This problem occurs in a variety of cases, including when using a chair bed. Basically, the absence of the spring effect is due to the violation of the integrity of the metal parts. Sometimes it's all about the deformation of the working springs. It is impossible to restore all these parts. They are completely replaced.

Quite often, complaints are related to the fact that the chair creaks. Eliminating such a defect is not too difficult. The reasons for the squeak can be:

• assembly errors;
• breakage of individual parts;
• weak tightening of the bolts;
• violation of the rocking mechanisms.

If the cause of the noise cannot be found for a long time, the back should be examined. It is likely that there are problems with its internal fixings. The bolts are either replaced or tightened (depending on their condition). If extraneous sounds are heard from below, then this is already a gas lift defect. You can also fix it, but it will turn out to be somewhat more difficult. Sometimes there are complaints about the chair: it goes down. And attempts to use the levers of the lifting mechanism do nothing. In this case, there is also a problem with the gas lift.

It is not difficult to restore the upholstery of an old chair. The banner will take 30-60 minutes. Artificial leather and delicate fabrics cannot be used for this procedure. The fabric is changed on the seat or on the backrest selectively.

The new trim is fixed with furniture staples using a special stapler. The work goes like this:

• take the necessary measurements;
• disassemble the chair;
• remove the old upholstery;
• attach new material;
• collect the product back.

For the reconstruction of wicker chairs you will need:

Sometimes it becomes necessary to repair the soft armrests. It is advisable to replace the fabric parts completely. Wooden structures are sanded with sandpaper. All fabrics and upholstery should be tensioned as well as possible. It is imperative to stuff staples around the mounting holes or the material will tear. In old chairs, it is better to change the bolts and nuts before assembling. Padding and assembly will take 1-4 hours in various cases.
