The Kentucky armchair is a folding chaise longue chair for relaxing. Kentucky furniture has an unusual design, which is why it is often used for landscape decoration. Such a laconic design consists of lightweight wooden blocks of the same size. They are fastened together with a strong metal wire and a hairpin.

The Kentucky chair consists of a comfortable back and seat. They are fastened together with the same bars, but shorter. All constituent elements of the structure are folded alternately in a checkerboard pattern.

If you are going to make such a chair, you can find a ready-made scheme with a design on the Internet. It will facilitate and speed up the process of creating such furniture. As a rule, all dimensions are indicated on the sketch, but there are standard ones. First, you should decide on the height of the backrest and the depth of the seat structure. After that, the length and diameter of the legs are calculated.

Most often, the seat consists of 6 bars, each of which should be 375 mm long. This part of the chair will need to be completed with two additional blanks, the length of which will be equal to 875 mm. These elements will further act as rear legs. The back of a Kentucky chair should consist of four folded pieces. Their length should be 787 mm. Also, at the end, two more beams of 745 mm are taken. More often they are complemented by 2 more elements of 1050 mm each.

To connect the seat and backrest, special jumpers with a length of 228 mm are used. A total of 9 pieces are needed. If necessary, you can make an enlarged version of the Kentucky furniture with a higher back and a larger seat. An elongated design would also be a good option. Outwardly, it will resemble an ordinary chaise longue. Its length is on average about 125 cm.

Before you start making a Kentucky chair, you should prepare all the necessary devices and materials for this:

• wooden beam;
• slats;
• roulette;
• drill with special attachments;
• sandpaper;
• jigsaw (hacksaw);
• hammer;
• pliers;
• pencil.

Particular attention should be paid to the choice of material for the manufacture of such a furniture structure.

• Conifers. This base is rarely used in the manufacture of "Kentucky". After all, almost all coniferous materials are straightforward, certain loads will lead to the formation of large chips on the surface.

• Multilayer dense wood. This natural material will be an excellent option for the production of a Kentucky chair. Most often, oak, walnut and beech are used as such a base.These rocks have the most dense structure. They can easily withstand even significant loads. In addition, the surface of such a tree has a beautiful and unusual pattern. It is better to cover such materials with a stain during the manufacturing process.

• Aspen. Such a tree is particularly resistant to high levels of moisture. With careful processing, the aspen base can easily withstand direct sunlight. Over time, the chair will not dry out or break.

When choosing a material for a Kentucky chair, you need to consider some other points. Wood will be much cheaper if you buy solid wood rather than sawn wood. It can be quickly processed with your own hands using a circular saw or grinder. Also, when choosing a material, remember that external defects on the surface are undesirable. Surfaces even with small knots and other irregularities will not be able to serve for a long time.

Wood is considered a natural and environmentally friendly material, so it will be the best option for making furniture for summer cottages.

To make such a country chair, you first need to cut the timber into blanks of the required size. After that, their edges are carefully sanded with sandpaper, the surface should be completely smooth, without defects. If you use needles for such a chair, it will quickly wear out, lose its appearance and collapse. Before the final assembly of the structure, the corresponding markings are applied to the material with a pencil. Drilling points are marked. They should be located at a distance of 30-35 millimeters from the edges.

You can immediately arrange the cuts, giving them the shape of a semicircle, this will provide a more accurate look of the finished structure. The assembly should be done on a flat surface. It starts with laying 2 short, 1 long beams. In total, two such full rows should turn out, two more short parts close them at the end. Then the formed workpiece is carefully leveled on one side. Between the laid out components of the future seat, special connecting parts are placed, while selecting holes for easy installation of a stud or metal wire.

The first and last connection element should be placed outside the furniture product. The wire is carefully pulled through the holes, while tightening the workpiece parts as tightly as possible. All edges must be well fixed, for this they use galvanized staples, they are hammered in with a hammer.

After that, you can start assembling the back. For this first, medium and short parts are folded alternately, and then it all ends with a long wooden bar. All edges are aligned. Fasteners pass inside the holes that have been aligned at the edges of the upper part. They are connected in such a way that they can normally stretch for a small distance, and so that bars can be placed between them.

At the final stage, the backrest with the seat should be assembled into one structure. This is done using connecting pieces of wood. All holes are aligned with each other and fasteners are passed through them, making a strong fixation. If you use studs in the manufacturing process, then it is better to fix the edges with nuts. For protection, you can additionally take an anti-indentation washer.

Sanding wood can be done using sandpaper or a sander. The made garden furniture is coated with a special protective varnish. If desired, you can use a decorative coating or building paint. It is permissible to cover the finished product with a soft cloth and put pillows there.
