Pallet chairs: types and manufacturing technology

Do-it-yourself furniture is what makes the interior of your home exclusive, and it is also a great compliment to the owner. Many people give in to such creative experiments, believing that homemade furniture is expensive. However, real-life examples refute this opinion - for example, pallet chairs.

Such furniture fits perfectly into the minimalistic style - it is democratic, self-sufficient, expressive. If you have a loft or Provence style interior, pallet furniture will find its place here too.

The unconditional advantages of such furniture:

• environmentally friendly - natural material is preferable in virtually any interior;
• raw materials are convenient to work with - pallets are perfectly sawn with both hand and power tools;
• you can experiment with sizes, shapes, designs;
• such items will be compact, mobile, ergonomic;
• it is always an original work that attracts attention;
• furniture is made promptly, the process does not take weeks;
• the cost of furniture will be low.

Need to please the style too: although, if you remember about the popular today fusion and eclecticism, you can play with the options for including such a chair in the design of the house. Many people equip it as a temporary measure, for example, a chair for a rented apartment. But even when they have to move, they cannot part with it and bring it to the permanent interior.

The main division concerns the purpose of this piece of furniture. If a pallet chair is designed for the garden, it will be garden furniture. If it is intended to be placed on a balcony, it will be balcony furniture. But very often such a chair becomes an integral part of the living room, kitchen and even bedroom. Such models are actively used in studio apartments.

• Street. For example, you decided to decorate your garden with them, create there a comfortable platform for communication and tea drinking. A large table, side benches are great. But if you want something more cozy and comfortable, take pallets and make a chic chair in one weekend, for which the household will still fight.

• Wide. Sometimes it’s hard to even tell if it’s an armchair or a small sofa. Such furniture can be seen in children's rooms or hallways. By the way, an excellent solution for the hallway - you don't have to spend money on the same type, not always comfortable banquets.

• Small. This is a chair for one, and it is not created for relaxation and so that you can fall apart in it. This can be, for example, a balcony chair used so that a person caring for a mini-garden on the balcony can sit down, read something, do some minor manipulations.

• Accentuated. This means you are making a chair that immediately catches all eyes. Wherever you place it in the house, it looks like a full-fledged owner everywhere.

• Group. The case when you are building more than one chair, but a whole group at once. This option is usually chosen for outdoor furniture.

Pallets themselves can usually be purchased at construction sites. Inspect all pallet items before purchasing: it is important that they are free of cracks and other visible defects. If previously the pallets have already been used for something, they must be thoroughly washed and cleaned. In order for the future product to be, indeed, of high quality, thoroughly grind the pallets, remove various roughness, irregularities from them (this is done with sandpaper or a grinder).

Which of the tools you need:

• drill with a set of drills;
• metal corners, screws, washers, other fasteners;
• sandpaper (different grain sizes);
• paints and varnishes for the protection of wooden structures and their painting;
• additional devices - pencils, rulers, tape measures, hacksaw.

If you have already cleaned and sanded the pallets with your own hands, it's time to start priming the wood. This must be done - this will significantly reduce the risks of damage to the tree by a fungus, bark beetle. Finally, it will prevent future furniture from rotting.

Here is a step-by-step instruction on how to create a chair from pallets.

1. The pallet is to be cut across. The cut line can be the middle board. It must be left intact, because it will hold the surfaces together. The wide part of the pallet will be the support of the future chair.
2. In order to build the back, you need to form the same part from the second pallet. Both elements should be fastened together. It is important for this to correctly set the angle. In order for the backrest to completely adhere to the support, wood is slightly cut from its end. The mount is fixed on self-tapping screws and metal corners. The fittings must be strong, new, so that the model does not bend.
3. Strengthening the support legs. For the legs, you can take anything, for example, the same pallets. They can be screwed vertically to the support from both sides - they will become armrests for the chair at the same time. But metal legs are also possible.
4. Further, the design needs to be decorated, without this the chair will be simply faceless. The most obvious option is to paint the structure. Any colors, at your discretion. The garden chair can even be made multi-colored if you want it to be in demand among children. You don't have to paint the chair at all, but simply protonate it, soak it with stain.
5. Another alternative to painting is upholstery. A filler, soft foam rubber is usually used under it. It is possible not to upholster the chair, but only to improve it with a soft back and a soft seat. These are attached covers (reminiscent of mats), inside of which there is foam rubber, and on top there is a bright upholstery. On such mats, you can sew several sets of covers, which will vary according to the mood of the owners.

Surely, having made such a chair, you will want new experiments with really comfortable, multifunctional pallets. You can make a coffee table as a set for the chair. And it is convenient to make its table top in the form of glass, which can be ordered according to the size of the table.

Shelves, racks and even full-fledged wardrobes can also be made from pallets. And if this is a summer cottage, decoration of a veranda or loggia - such sets will be an excellent budget find. And in an ordinary apartment, an armchair and a coffee table can become an interior highlight.
