Spray gun pressure regulator
Often, special spray guns are used when painting. They allow you to evenly apply various pigments on large surfaces. These devices are often equipped with a special pressure regulator. Today we will talk about the features of this element.
Description and purpose
A similar regulator in spray guns makes it possible to accurately control the pressure of compressed air at the inlet to such a device. It guarantees an excellent quality of the painted layer and a fairly high coefficient of transfer of the paint and varnish material to the surface to be treated.
Such parts with a pressure gauge for a spray gun can easily prevent paint overspray. As a result, an economical consumption of coloring compositions is provided. These regulators in spray guns are made from resistant and treated metals that will not be damaged by regular contact with various substances.
An air mass pressure regulator with a pressure gauge for such atomizers, as a rule, is combined into one common design.
In such units, special piston gearboxes are used, equipped with a spring and a diaphragm. This is true for both mechanical and digital models.
Types of pressure gauges
There are several of the most common types of spray gun pressure gauges.
- Spring models... These varieties have the simplest design. It is spring samples that are most often mounted on such paint sprayers, allowing you to obtain the necessary data in a fairly large range. These gauges are durable and rarely break.
- Membrane models. Such pressure gauges necessarily have a special membrane that has increased sensitivity. It is tensioned firmly between two rigid supports. Membrane products for spray guns allow you to accurately determine the indicators of the supply of air masses and the dyes themselves.
- Models equipped with a special air flow pressure regulator... This type of device can be built-in. It is also sometimes separately fixed to the handle of the sprayer itself. With additional fixation to the device, it only makes it possible to read the necessary data, but at the same time it will not have any effect on the operation of the equipment.
- Digital samples. Such models have appeared relatively recently. They are still quite rarely installed on spray guns. The digital varieties are ideal for professional paint guns. These products allow you to regulate and control the ratio of air mixtures and paints and varnishes with maximum accuracy.
Sometimes all pressure gauges are divided into three large groups, depending on where exactly the part is installed.
- Detachable models. These options are only considered optional accessories for the sprayer. In this case, the product is simply pre-attached to the handle of the device.
- Products on an autonomous air source... In this case, almost any air compressor can be used. In this case, the adjustment is carried out in the place where the pipe connection for supplying air masses with the unit is located. It is done by choosing the optimal ratio between the pressure of the dye and air.
- Products that are attached to the sprayer itself. When using such models, you will need to independently expose the data.
Optimal pressure
Depending on the design features of the unit (primarily on the type of spray mechanism), the pressure value can vary significantly. As a rule, it ranges from 1 bar to 5.
Do not forget that the exact pressure values that are necessary for the normal operation of the device must be indicated in the technical documents, and they can also be found on the packaging with the devices. Sometimes they are written directly on the spray guns themselves.
If the technical documents have been lost and nowhere else is there an indication of the optimal pressure, then it can only be determined by testing... In this case, it is necessary to do several sprays. The torch of an accurately and correctly adjusted unit must be even and have the shape of a regular oval, while the colorants will be evenly distributed over the surface.
Work rules
If you are going to paint with a spray gun with an air pressure regulator, then you should remember some important rules for working with this equipment.
- Select in advance a place to fix the pressure gauge... The best option would be the handle of the device. If you also use a special moisture separator, then it is best to fix it on the lower section of the pressure gauge with an external threaded part. This is done in order to get the most accurate readings, because the filter elements can reduce the pressure slightly.
- Using the auxiliary hose... When connecting the pressure gauge with a moisture separator and a paint sprayer, a structure is too bulky, which will be inconvenient to work with, so a small piece of hose is often used. It is fixed between the handle and the pressure regulator. This additional element makes it possible to work in tight areas without reducing the pressure value.
- Using the indicator in the absence of a pressure gauge. If you do not have the opportunity to use the regulator, you can simply calculate the pressure indicator yourself. To do this, you need to look at the indicator that is built into the compressor. But with this method, it will be necessary to take into account the decrease in the pressure of the air mixture that passes through the hose and through the filter element.
