Acrylic paints are considered the most common facade paints. They are suitable for almost any type of surface, providing a durable coating and protection from excess moisture. They also lie flat, odorless and dry quickly. With the help of acrylic coating, you can hide small defects, give the house a beautiful and neat appearance.

Peculiarities

There is a large selection of different facade paints for each type of wall covering. They are made taking into account the properties of these coatings, they also have their own specific qualities.

Most often, at the last stage of finishing the house, facade acrylic paints are used, which have the following characteristics:

  1. wear resistance;
  2. elasticity;
  3. resistance to temperature extremes.

Acrylic paints are based on derivatives of acrylic acid in the form of resins with additives. Facade acrylic paint is of two types:

  1. mixtures with organic solvents;
  2. water-based (water-based).

Water-based facade acrylic paint is well suited for its technical characteristics for home decoration, it dissolves with ordinary water, is odorless and dries quickly.

Composition

The composition of acrylic paint includes:

  1. film-forming agent (binder) - the quality of the paint, its durability and strength depend on this component. It influences the adhesion to the surface and connects the rest of the coating components;
  2. solvent - reduces the viscosity, either water or an organic solvent is used;
  3. pigments - give color, are natural, synthetic, organic and inorganic. If you need to create your own shade, the pigments should be chosen from the same manufacturer as the white base paint itself. This will prevent the pigment from dissolving in the binder.

Fillers (dispersant, coalescent, defoamer and others) can also be added, which are responsible for wear resistance, moisture resistance, strength and antiseptic effect. Various organic and inorganic compounds are used to obtain persistent shades. The cost and technical characteristics of the coating depend on the availability and quantity of components in the composition.

Acrylic paint can be thinned with water until dry, and excess should be gently wiped off with a wet towel, but when finished, the coating looks like a strong insoluble plastic film, although it seems rather thin.

Advantages and disadvantages

Acrylic compounds are highly popular due to their ease of use, with their help you can complete repairs within a day and at the same time not be poisoned by toxic substances that are released from other types of paints and varnishes. Of course, it requires certain rules for storage and use. Acrylic consists of water, so you need to store the paint at freezing temperatures; you can apply a new layer after the previous one has dried, so that the paint lies well and does not deform.

The composition is so strong and durable that it will not be easy to remove from the surface. This is both a minus and a plus. And the plus is that the composition practically does not react to mechanical stress.

The benefits include:

  1. good tolerance to temperature changes and changes in weather conditions, the paint is resistant to moisture, does not crack and does not fade in the sun;
  2. long service life (from 10 to 20 years);
  3. the composition is odorless and dries quickly;
  4. strength;
  5. a wide range of applications, the paint is used for both external and internal work;
  6. environmental friendliness;
  7. high vapor permeability;
  8. ease of application;
  9. the ability to paint at temperatures from -20 to 30 degrees Celsius;
  10. masking of minor defects.

Disadvantages:

  1. relative high cost;
  2. the need to monitor the safety of material in an open container;
  3. some types must first be primed before applying.

Manufacturers

A wide selection of paints and varnishes of foreign and domestic manufacturers is presented on the modern market. Finding a suitable facade acrylic paint is not difficult.

Of the domestic manufacturers, it is worth highlighting firms Eurolux and Optimist... Paints and varnishes of both companies have a wide range of different shades, in comparison with foreign analogues, they are not inferior in quality, but much cheaper.

Of the foreign companies, the most popular is the Finnish manufacturer Tikkurila. It produces paints for various types of surfaces that are of high quality. Paints and varnishes of this manufacturer are time-tested.

Below is a list of manufacturers that have received the most positive feedback from customers:

  1. "Ceresit" - best suited for painting plaster, it can also be used for roofing due to its high wear resistance and low water absorption.
  2. "Halo" - has good vapor permeability, used for brick, wood and plastered surfaces.
  3. "Parade" - resistant to ultraviolet light, vapor permeable. It is used to paint concrete and metal surfaces.
  4. Farbitex - wear-resistant coating, withstands temperature extremes, can be tinted well in pastel colors. Designed for concrete, brick, filled walls.
  5. Dulux matt paint - it is used for any facades with a mineral base.
  6. "Tikkurila" - great for already painted surfaces, fits perfectly, dries quickly, moisture resistant.

How to choose?

The choice of facade paint is a very important process, because not only the appearance of the building, but also its service life depends on it.

The condition of the facade is negatively affected by weather conditions, and therefore it needs additional protection.

Correctly selected paint should have the following characteristics:

  1. corrosion resistance;
  2. wear resistance;
  3. moisture protection;
  4. the coating should not ignite if a fire breaks out;
  5. protection against exposure to ultraviolet rays;
  6. resistance to temperature changes;
  7. strength, paint should not be damaged;
  8. resistance to dirt.

These criteria must be met for all types of surfaces (wood, concrete, metal), because they provide a neat appearance of the house for many years, high strength and protection from damage.

There is a wide range of colors on sale, but if you can't find the color you need, you can purchase white paint and tint yourself by adding pigment.

The film that forms after the acrylic paint dries reliably protects the concrete surface, provides immunity to chemicals and resistance to adverse weather. Water-based dispersion paint protects reinforced concrete structures from corrosion.

When choosing a facade coating for wooden walls, it is necessary to pay attention to the antiseptic properties of the coating, because wood has a high penetration depth. Antiseptic protects against weathering, mold and rot, preserves the texture of wood, emphasizes the natural color.Due to the influence of ultraviolet radiation, the wood can crack, this leads to its deformation, therefore it is very important to paint the wooden facade in time.

To choose the right type of coating, it is necessary to take into account the climate, weather conditions, the type and material of the surface, the composition of the paint. It's also important to paint your home only in dry weather.

The color of the paint is important. The best option is to select similar shades of the same color in which the roof, facade, frames, stairs will be painted. Basically, the roof has a darker shade, and light natural colors are selected for the walls. It looks bad both a large number of different colors, and painting the whole house in one color.

Light shades will visually make the structure larger and brighter. Colors are also chosen based on the climate; in colder areas it is preferable to use dark shades that will attract heat. And for hot regions, on the contrary, light colors are used.

Features of use

Regardless of the type of surface, the principle of using facade paint is almost identical. Cleaning the walls of grease, accumulations of dirt or old paint plays an important role in preparation for staining. The better the surface is prepared, the more it dries, the better the paint will lay.

For the best effect, you need to apply more than two layers, but a new layer is applied only after the previous one has completely dried. Despite the fact that acrylic coating is considered universal, the type of surface to be painted and the composition of the paint are of great importance.

Since this paint has a high drying rate, during use it is better to pour it from the package into a small container so that it does not have time to dry. It is also advisable to paint at temperatures up to +20 degrees Celsius, because high temperatures lead to faster drying.

If you want to get your own shade of coating, then you need to mix the paints in a separate container before painting, since the paints lay on the surface with a new layer, and do not mix.

Painting tools (brushes, roller) can be easily washed with water after completion of work. A roller is useful when painting a large surface area, while brushes are best used for hard-to-reach areas.

Wooden surfaces

For painting wooden surfaces, paint containing antiseptics and fire retardants must be used. Antiseptics prevent mold from appearing, and fire retardants will protect you during a fire.

The process of preparing a tree before painting can be divided into several stages:

  1. when a simple repair is done in order to freshen up buildings, it is possible not to remove the old layer of paint if it is completely preserved and not damaged. In other cases, the old coating, dirt and mold are completely removed;
  2. you need to completely dry the tree and putty all cracks or defects;
  3. apply a special primer and seal the joints with a sealant. Ideally, the primer should contain an antiseptic.

The staining process itself takes place with a brush. It is necessary to drive it in the direction of the fibers so that there are no streaks, and each new layer is sanded after drying. In this way, a smooth coating can be achieved. If it is necessary to paint a large surface, sanding can be omitted.... The end result will still look attractive.

Metal surfaces

Due to the fact that the metal quickly reacts with moisture, the main problem of this fairly durable material is corrosion. That's why it is worth choosing paints with a high content of anti-corrosion agentthat will protect the metal from the adverse effects of weather conditions.

Before painting, it is necessary to prepare the surface: remove rust (with a special solvent or a metal brush), clean from dirt, dry well.

There are coatings that can be used even on rust and without a primer, but it is worth considering that the better the preparation of the metal for painting is made, the longer it will last.

Brick surfaces

A brick house is a little more difficult to paint than other surfaces. First of all, it is necessary to seal up all the cracks with plaster or cement mortar, and then remove dust and dirt, if there is old paint, then remove it. Once the walls are clean, you can wash them with a water hose. Sometimes damp walls are treated with a special cleaner.

After the walls are dry, it is necessary to proceed to priming, and then to the painting itself. For coloring, it is better to choose a wide brush so that there are no unpainted stripes.

It is necessary to paint in two layers, after what time the second layer can be applied is indicated on the paint package.

Plaster and concrete

Fresh and well-dried plaster is easy to paint:

  1. a primer is applied first;
  2. the surface dries well;
  3. then paint application follows.

If the surface has defects, then first of all you need to clean it, puttying, sanding, priming, and then paint. These processes are the same for both plaster and concrete surfaces.
