Acrylic paints are popular in the art and construction industries due to their durability and variety of colors. Unfortunately, the solution does not always fall exclusively on the place allotted to it. When paint goes to the wrong place, it has to be removed. For this reason, you should know how to effectively remove acrylic from any surface.

Features of the composition

Acrylic paint is applied to a variety of surfaces, including:

  • wood;
  • fabrics;
  • plastic;
  • concrete;
  • brick;
  • glass.

During construction and renovation, the multifunctional coating is used for both external and internal work. The choice of paint color is practically unlimited. In addition, it does not flow down on vertical planes, fits well, does not form any stripes or irregularities.

The paint is safe for people, it can even be used in children's rooms. The undoubted advantage is the ability of the coating to pass air and resist moisture. On surfaces treated with acrylic paints, mold does not appear, and fungus does not start.

Unlike oil paint, acrylic paint is odorless, dries quickly and does not crack. It is not surprising that it is she who is preferred in most cases when renovating residential, industrial and office premises. The excellent characteristics of paints are due to their composition. The composition of different manufacturers may differ slightly. However, for all paints in this category, the following ingredients are required:

  • binding base;
  • acrylic fillers;
  • pigments;
  • additional additives.

The main role is assigned to the binding base: it unites all substances included in a single composition. The base is a polymeric material readily soluble in water. Acrylic resin is required for the production of the main component. The base provides color fastness to the paint.

The resins used must be of high quality. Only in this way the paint will receive all the positive characteristics of the finishing material.

Acrylic fillers are needed for:

  • improving the protective properties of dyes;
  • uniform distribution of color within the composition;
  • increasing the adhesion of the applied material to the treated surface.

The color or shade of the paint depends on the pigments. Basically, pigments are a powder made up of tiny particles. Once in the composition, the particles do not dissolve, but are evenly distributed throughout the entire volume of the liquid. Pigments, depending on their origin, are divided into:

  • organic;
  • inorganic;
  • natural;
  • piece.

Additional additives are needed to obtain certain characteristics. For example, they increase moisture resistance. The presence of some additives makes it possible to obtain a matte surface, others - a glossy one.

How to clean fresh stains?

The drying speed of acrylic paint is its strength. If paint spills onto the floor while painting the walls, quick drying will be a real problem.

So:

  • The quick-setting agent is difficult to wash off the hands and is especially difficult to remove from the fabric. Therefore, you must be careful when working. And if you accidentally apply acrylic on surfaces that cannot be painted, quickly remove any traces of it.
  • A fresh stain without a trace is erased with a damp cloth or foam sponge. The main thing is to have them always at hand and put them into action in a timely manner.Removing stains should be done without haste, with great care.
  • If the painting process does not allow for distraction to remove splashes, you should start cleaning accidentally contaminated surfaces or objects immediately after the next operation.
  • Weakly adherent paint will succumb if washed with warm water and regular soap or a mild detergent. The means always available in the house will help to eliminate the problem: vinegar and soda. Apply warm water with the addition of baking soda or vinegar to a not yet old stain. After a few minutes, the paint will soften and become easier to wipe off.
  • Recently stained surfaces can be cleaned by heating the stains. The paint begins to swell, then it is removed with a scraper. The method is applicable only when the base under the coloring matter is not damaged by strong heat.
  • Within half an hour, the spots can still be overcome. After the formation of a film, this will no longer be possible, and the removal of contaminants will turn into a long painstaking process.

How can dry dirt be wiped off?

Difficulties arise when it is necessary to remove dried dirt. In its liquid state, the acrylic mixture can even be washed off or wiped off. But as soon as it grabs, the solid, dense mass will not succumb to water.

Facades painted with acrylic paint do not wash off in the rain. And this is great! But in order to clean the surfaces from splashes of dye after finishing work, the durability of the coating becomes a certain problem.

How to remove dried paint depends on where it is located:

  • If the stain formed on a hard surface, the paint could not penetrate. Then something sharp will be needed to eliminate it. For example, paint drops from metal and ceramics can be cut off with a knife. In this case, the surface will not be damaged.
  • The paint is removed from the surface of the tile with a scraper, spatula or blade. With gentle movements from themselves, the paint is gradually scraped off. With enough care and leisurely work, the surface will be clean. Scratches will not appear on it. The cleaned tiles are washed clean with soap and wiped dry.
  • Greater accuracy is required to remove dirt from linoleum and plastic. Although these materials do not absorb paint, they have a softer structure. Rough pressing of the cutting tool can damage them. Therefore, you need to act carefully, gradually. You can pry off the stuck blot with a spatula. A few gentle but persistent strokes and the paint flakes off.
  • From the window, paint that got on it during the repair must be washed off with a special tool. Modern household chemicals can cope with almost any kind of pollution. Paints are no exception. A good glass cleaner should be sprayed over the surface, paying particular attention to the stains. After a couple of minutes, you can wipe off loose particles from the glass with a soft cloth.

The first attempt may fail. Then the operation must be repeated, and the stain will disappear without a trace.

  • Removing paint from wood takes place in several stages. The upper part is removed with a spatula or scraper. Then comes the turn of fine-grained sandpaper. With its help, you can remove paint from a wooden surface almost to the very base. In order not to damage the product, the residual thin layer must be washed off with a cloth moistened with alcohol. If soiled, the cloth is replaced with a new one. This continues until the stain is completely removed. The treated area will have to be polished.
  • The greatest difficulty is the removal of paint from the surface of the fabric. The fact is that once on the woven material, acrylic is absorbed into it. Even with timely cleaning with water, the dye is not always completely removed.

Removers have been developed for each type of paint. This makes removing stains easier. The wash is applied to the fabric, dissolves the paint, and then rinses out with water. Lack of remover - unpleasant odor.

It is better to work with the chemical with gloves and a respirator mask.

Helpful hints:

  • When buying acrylic paints, you should familiarize yourself with their composition. The best choice will be those that do not have ammonia or other substances harmful to humans.
  • It is known that acrylic paints are thinned with water. Using hot water will result in faster setting. Cold water, on the other hand, will slow down the solidification somewhat, which, in particular, is very important for removing accidental drops.
  • You don't have to worry about accidental stains if you prepare thoroughly for work. To do this, you need to cover the furniture that remains in the repaired room with foil. Thick paper or polyethylene can be placed on the floor.
  • Even when the paint does not emit unpleasant odors and does not sting your eyes, you should not give up personal protective equipment. Glasses will protect your eyes from the smallest splashes, a petal mask will protect most of your face, gloves will protect your hands, and comfortable work clothes will protect the rest of your body.
