Conductors for confirmations
Description
The most common type of fasteners for the installation of elements of modular furniture made of chipboard, MDF and other wood-based materials are considered to be confirmations (euro screws, euro screws). These fasteners involve preliminary drilling of 2 holes of different diameters: a blind hole from the end of one connected element for the Euro screw thread and a through hole in the face (plane) of another element. It is almost impossible to do this with a conventional drill, because the hole breaks, and it is rarely possible to create a right angle. In this regard, for such work, it is necessary to have a toolkit called a conductor.
In fact, the jig is an ordinary template with holes of the required diameter.
The working part of the device is a rectangular bar made of durable material with holes located in accordance with the required markings.
For comfort, it can be equipped with a regulator and a locking device.
The jig guarantees the necessary direction of the cutting tool at right angles to the surface, preventing the possibility of sideways movement. This is especially important when working with narrow component parts of cabinet furniture, such as the end surfaces of doors or walls. Without this device, it is rather difficult to maintain the required angle, which can lead to a defect, since sometimes a slight deviation in the direction of the fastener hole can make it impossible to assemble individual parts into an integral structure.
The devices are endowed with the following advantages:
- thanks to them, it is possible to obtain accurate holes for additives for confirms (euro screws);
- the toolkit does not need to be marked for a drill;
- any piece of furniture will be assembled much faster;
- you can make a specific number of holes without prior marking.
Applications
It must be said that the use of a jig for holes is practiced almost everywhere where there is a need to constantly drill holes. These areas may include the following.
- Furniture manufacturing. They are used both in the manufacture and in the assembly of pieces of furniture, when it is required to make holes in the mating elements for the installation of fasteners. In such episodes, a jig for spikes or a jig for confirms (euro screws) is often used, without which it is impossible to produce high-quality mounting sockets for fasteners. For example, a U-shaped jig for confirmations with a stop simplifies drilling holes for euro screws and facilitates the assembly of cabinets and bedside tables. Such a tool is extremely necessary when you need to drill holes (including at an angle) in thin sheets of chipboard or MDF.
With the use of a jig, the assembly of pieces of furniture is quick and easy. Even a simple device such as a bar with an emphasis greatly simplifies the procedure for making holes of the same type.
Furniture manufacturing is not the only industry where hole making fixtures are practiced.
They are often used to make holes in pipes and other cylindrical workpieces.
- Construction. When performing construction and installation work, it is often necessary to drill walls, create technological holes in building structures, for example, when installing sandwich panels, drill pipes and other surfaces. This is very difficult to implement without conductors, and correcting subsequent errors will take a lot of time. With the help of jigs, all drilled holes will be of the correct configuration and will be at the required slope.
- Mechanical engineering. It is also quite difficult to work without conductors here, since all blanks and products are subject to standardization, in other words, they must all be the same size, have the same arrangement of some elements, including holes.
- Serial and mass production. The use is due to the fact that for a small batch of products it makes no sense to make a separate device, which will need to be installed and adjusted separately.
- Stamping production also involves the standardization of certain elements. Conductors facilitate tasks in this matter. There is no doubt that all drilled holes will not differ in any way in size and inclination.
- Gen. In everyday life, it is often necessary to fix something - this can be the creation of holes in the walls, various objects, and so on, where high accuracy is required.
What are they?
It should be noted that these devices are used not only for making holes, but also when milling, turning and cutting are performed.
By functionality and design, conductors are divided into several varieties.
- Overhead. These are the most commonly used lightweight fixtures. They are installed on the preparatory part or the surface to be treated, fixed to it with specialized clamps or held by hand. Such a device is applicable for drilling flat parts, for example, chipboard and MDF sheets. Due to the use of the jig, the holes come out very precise and neat.
- Swivel. These jigs are excellent for drilling rounded or cylindrical surfaces. By means of such devices, it becomes possible to drill not only perpendicular holes, but also to make them at different angles, since the rotary structures are equipped with specialized bushings, which make it possible to install the device at different tilt axes.
- Universal. Conductors with this design are suitable for most types of work (with the exception of highly specialized ones) and are in great demand in medium-sized industries, where quick adjustment to the available surface is essential. They are also popular in everyday life when it is necessary to work with a wide variety of materials and surfaces.
- Tilting. In terms of functionality, they are somewhat universal. They are needed when you have to make holes in different planes or at a slope. This is very practical for performing any kind of repair and construction work, when it is necessary to make a hole in the walls without a lot of time and at a specific angle.
- Sliding. This type of conductors does not imply fixation to the surface in which you want to make a hole. They simply need to be held with your hand (which is often not particularly comfortable).
- Pinned. Unlike the previous type, they are rigidly fixed to the area where they are going to be applied. Despite the fact that it is more comfortable to work, this type of device limits freedom of action.
Usage Tips
As we know, the easiest way to prepare seats for confirmations is to perform marking operations with a hand-held electric drill.This method has 2 drawbacks: low accuracy and speed of work.
The simplest step to a significant increase in these parameters is to use jigs - specialized devices that correctly set the position of the drill on the part being processed.
Consider the sequence of operations for making holes in workpieces using a jig:
- we establish the place of drilling;
- we attach a conductor to it;
- we fix the device with a convenient method;
- install sleeves in the holes;
- we drill in the required places.
And one more little piece of advice.
... To minimize the amount of dust generated when using the jig, its design can be supplemented with a half of a plastic bottle.
Such a simple device can also serve as a container in which the chips arising during drilling will be collected.
