Coleus "Wizard": description, varieties and rules of care

Coleus "Wizard" or "nettle", as the common people call the plant, is characterized by longevity. This evergreen plant grows naturally in the African continent and in the Asian part of Eurasia. The plant got its second name for the unusual shape of the leaves: they are similar to nettle leaves. The beauty of this flower lies in its extraordinary color scheme.

The plant, like its progenitor, has a tropical origin, but despite this, among all varieties, it has no equal in color. The "nettle" edges of the plant are bordered by a narrow strip of yellow color, inside this border the plant is of red shades.

The plant got its name due to its monochromatic color. The leaves of the Golden Coleus compensate for their monochromaticity over the entire surface of the leaf with a mass of various shapes: wavy, perfectly flat, resembling a braid, or simply dissected. Yellow Coleus is most commonly grown as an annual plant, so it works well for flower beds. In height, it reaches no more than 0.35 meters, therefore it is not able to shade other plants.

The description of the coleus variety "Velvet Red" is very similar to the "Scarlet" plant: it has a narrow border, which is painted white, and inside this "cut" the plant can be either bright scarlet or purple. Like all representatives of this genus, the flower is small, so it fits perfectly into a flower bed of any size, creating a wonderful backdrop for other plants.

Coleus "Mosaic" got its name for its unusual appearance. Its peculiarity lies in the fact that most of the leaf surface has shades of dark green, where the veins are highlighted with a shade of parchment, and on these not very prominent colors, spots of various shapes in chocolate tones stand out, which are completely randomly located over the leaf area of ​​the plant.

Coleus Bluma "King Rose" is a very unusual flower. Its color and leaf shape look unusual. If the representatives of the same species have until now had "nettle" edges, then this plant boasts smooth, neat forms. Also, this coleus has an attractive color: the edging of the color of saturated green, then there is a dark wine, beetroot shade and, closer to the middle, a lilac-pink color.

Despite the fact that the Coleus "Pineapple" is known for its spots, there are on the leaves and lines. To be more precise, in this variety, large veins of the leaf can be highlighted with a chocolate shade. Its surface itself can be represented by shades ranging from mint green to arid yellow, which gives the plant a special charm.

Coleus "Coral Sunrise" is extremely unusual in its colors. If we compare it with the representatives of this variety in edging, then even in this nomination "Coral" stands out, since its edging extends exclusively to the edges of the protruding sheet. Next comes the brownish tint, which does not affect the veins. But they are highlighted in crimson tones, which spread closer to the middle of the sheet. The shape of the leaf resembles a nettle, but the difference lies in the rounded "ends" of the leaf.

This plant variety is able to fit harmoniously into any interior, to emphasize every detail. The plant achieves this versatility by mixing pale green, dull yellow, and bright purple hues on the surface of one leaf. At the same time, the color does not look awkward, but as original and aesthetically pleasing as possible.

Coleus "Jade" has the shape of "rounded" nettle, along the edge of which there is a grassy-green edging. The veins and the inner content of this very "edging" are made in beige, milky tones, which looks harmonious.

Coleus "Scarlet" can be either with pointed tips or smoother. Along the edges are the colors of dry grass and a dull green hue, but closer to the middle, a riot of tones appears: blood red or purple-scarlet - for every taste.

Caring for Coleus of any variety is almost always the same. For the successful growth and development of a plant, the following recommendations should be followed.

1. When watering it is necessary to monitor the moisture content of the upper soil layer. At high temperatures, insufficient air humidity, it is worth additionally spraying Coleus leaves.
2. Room temperature, in which the coleus is located, should not exceed + 16 ° C.
3. Fertilize plant half a month after transplanting. During active reproduction, it is recommended to feed the flower every 1.5-2 weeks.
4. Trim the plant is needed every year with the onset of the warm season. The only rule for this process is to trim the shoots up to 6-7 cm in height.

Thus, we can say that among the varieties of Coleus, everyone can find something that is pleasing to the eye. In addition to the single use of coleus, they can be combined with other plants: shade them or, conversely, play in contrast, using other flowers as a background.
