Strawberries and strawberries are related plants. However, it must be remembered that strawberries are actually garden strawberries, and gardeners grow them on their plots.

Whereas that berry, which is usually called simply strawberries, is a wild-growing meadow, forest and field berry. These berries ripen at different times. Wild strawberries are harvested about a couple of weeks later than strawberries.

Influencing factors

Several factors influence the ripening period of berries. First of all this applies to the climate of the growing region. In the south of the country, the first strawberry harvest can be harvested at the end of May, in the central regions the fruits ripen by mid-June (early varieties ripen at the beginning of the month), while in more northern areas the berries become ripe only in July. An important factor is the temperature regime of the area. For the initial stage of plant growth, it is enough that the air temperature is slightly above 0 degrees. However, for the berries to ripen successfully, the daytime temperature should be approximately 20 degrees Celsius, and the nighttime temperature should not fall below +15 degrees.

Forest strawberries ripen later than other varieties. This is due to the fact that it grows in shady places where the sunlight does not penetrate enough. It is because of this that the berries take more time to fully ripen. Each year, the ripening time of the berries may vary depending on weather conditions. If the summer period is characterized by frequent rains, then the berries will be watery. When the summer is too dry, the strawberries will be shallow and dry.

Thus, an optimal harvest can be harvested when heat and moisture are evenly distributed.

Ripening dates of cultivated strawberries

Cultural strawberries (strawberries) ripen at different times in different regions. The strawberry season starts at the end of May and lasts until mid-August.

By the type of fruiting, strawberries are divided into two main types:

  • varieties that ripen only once throughout the season;
  • remontant varieties with the ability to bear fruit many times.

In addition, strawberry varieties that bear fruit once throughout the season are in turn subdivided into four main types.

  • Early varieties, which allow picking ripe berries starting from the second May decade (Kimberly, Olvia, Czech beauty).
  • Medium early varieties. The harvest ripens about a week later than that of the early strawberry varieties (Korona, Festivalnaya, Krasny Bereg).
  • Medium ripening varieties. The harvest of this type of berries is harvested a week or 10 days later than the mid-early species (Solovushka, Present, Arosa).
  • Late strawberries, which fully ripens in late June or early July (Chamora, Malvina, Adria).

Repaired varieties ripen several times per season, the first of which occurs in June, and the last one occurs in mid-August. The yield of remontant varieties is significantly higher than that of berries with a single harvest. However, growing and caring for these types of strawberries requires the use of different types of fertilizers, while the plant is less durable. Ripening of strawberries is very extended in time on the territory of the country due to its huge area. Therefore, each region has its own timing for when the berry is fully ripe and ready to be harvested.In the Kuban, the first strawberry harvest begins in early May, thanks to the warm sunny weather. However, if the ripening period is characterized by rainy weather, then this is reflected in the quality of the berries. During rains, strawberries can begin to rot, their taste and presentation deteriorate.

The middle strip of the country is suitable for the cultivation of many varieties of strawberries. It is recommended to plant early varieties, while planting should be carried out approximately in the middle of summer, maximum in early September, otherwise the plant may not take root. In cold weather, all plantings must be covered using a covering non-woven material or regular film. The use of mineral and other types of fertilizers is also recommended. If you adhere to these rules, you can get a fairly bountiful harvest of delicious sweet berries. In the Moscow region, harvesting of cultivated strawberries usually begins in mid-June.

This condition is observed only in warm and sunny weather. If the weather is rainy, then the harvest will be possible no earlier than at the end of June.

When do wild species begin to mature?

Strawberries are a perennial herb that can reach a height of 20 centimeters. Fruits are small in size, weighing about 10-12 grams. Wild strawberry is a tasty and healthy berry. That is why such a large number of people with great pleasure go to the forests and fields in order to collect ripe strawberries. Wild strawberry species are classified into three main types:

  • meadow;
  • field;
  • forest.

Field and meadow berries ripen earlier than forest plants. This is due to the abundant sunlight. However, because of him, the strawberries are not large enough and juicy enough. In the fields, berry picking can be started earlier than in the forests. Usually in the fields, strawberry bushes are found in thickets of weeds, which successfully shade the plant and protect it from direct sunlight. The berries grow in wild fields that are not used for agricultural purposes. However, the largest fruits ripen in birch and pine forests, where moderate grass cover grows.

The plant prefers lighted lawns and small gaps between individual trees. Sometimes strawberries can be found along the roads and on the edges. It must be remembered that early berries have a slight bitterness and only at a later date do they gain sweetness. Forest strawberries can be transplanted into a garden plot and successfully grown on it. Moreover, this plant does not require any special care. And the harvest will ripen about two weeks earlier than the same strawberry growing in the forest. Berries do not ripen at the same time. Therefore, on one bush, absolutely ripe berries and completely green ones can be found.

As with cultivated strawberry varieties, the ripening time is in direct proportion to the specific region where the berries grow. The further south the area is located, the earlier you can harvest. In warm sunny weather in the southern territories, you can go for strawberries at the end of May. But the best harvest can still be harvested in June. It is in this month that most berries fully ripen. The strawberry season in Bashkiria also falls in June.

The climatic conditions in the Moscow region are excellent for the growth and maturation of strawberries. The very first ripe berries can be found in mid-June. However, in order to pick up a large number of berries, it is best to postpone the strawberry hunt until July. For the Moscow region, July is the main month for harvesting wild strawberry species. In the Ural forests, as well as in the forests of the Far East and Siberia, strawberries begin to ripen by the beginning of August and berries can be picked for several weeks. By this time, in other regions, this berry is already leaving. Berry bushes do not bear fruit for too long.In meadow and field strawberries, the fruiting period lasts about three weeks, in wild berries - a little more than a month.

In addition to berries, you can collect other parts of the plant. Green leaves of strawberries are rich in vitamin C, they are often used in all kinds of infusions and decoctions. For this purpose, the green parts of the plant must be cut with scissors or pruning shears and dried. Strawberries and strawberries are rich in calcium, folic acid, iron, tannins, flavonoids and other beneficial substances. Berries are effective in vitamin deficiency, they perfectly strengthen the immune system.

It is recommended to use strawberries in the presence of diseases of the cardiovascular and digestive systems. Knowing the ripening time of strawberries and strawberries, you can harvest a good harvest of very tasty and healthy berries.
