The berries are eaten fresh, they can be stored frozen, and after defrosting they do not lose their shape.
Breeding history of the variety
The Russian hybrid was bred by the breeder S. Aitzhanova when crossing the foreign variety Geneva and the Russian Solovushka. It is considered the best remontant strawberry variety.
Description of the variety
The strawberry has a strong, spreading bush with good foliage. Medium-sized, dark green glossy dense leaves with slight wrinkles. Many strong stems are formed with medium-sized white flowers. Peduncles grow to leaf level and above. The buds of the next wave are formed immediately during flowering, therefore flowering is often characterized as continuous. A few mustache begin to bloom and bear fruit, not having time to take root and form leaves.
Ripening terms
The berries ripen from early June to September. There are two waves: spring-summer (June-July) and summer-autumn (August-September, in the south and October). The berries ripen together, they are harvested once every 10 days.
Growing regions
It is considered a highly acclimatized variety that is suitable for any region of Russia. In the middle lane, it bears fruit for about 3 months. In the southern regions, the term is increased to 5 months.
Yield
Up to 1.5 kg of large berries are harvested from one bush over the summer. Regular flowering and fruiting depletes the plant, therefore it is recommended to renew the strawberries every 2 years.
Berries and their taste
After pollination, cone-shaped fruits appear, weighing up to 25 g. The skin is elastic, shiny, the pulp is bright red, dense, juicy, does not crumple during long-term transportation. The aromatic, sweet-tasting berry is highly rated according to the results of tasting - 4.5 points out of a possible 5. Contains trace elements, a lot of vitamin C and sugar.
Growing features
For a remontant variety, regular care and watering is required: the bushes spend a lot of nutrients and moisture on flowering, the formation of berries. Water as the soil dries up. In hot weather, 2 times a week. After watering, the beds are loosened and mulched. In the spring, you can remove the first flower stalks, thus increasing the yield.
Strawberries tolerate drought and heat with dignity, but lack of moisture affects the number of buds and the size of the berries. Since the plant bears fruit for almost the entire season, it requires regular feeding and watering. In the summer, fertile soil should be poured onto the beds - this protects the bare roots and serves as an additional top dressing. Ripening berries are raised and supported with special stands. Correct planting and regular care increase the yield of the Lyubava variety.
When kept indoors, fruiting times increase; this option is suitable for cold regions with short summers, in which not all berries have time to ripen. Recommended for vertical container growing.
Site selection and soil preparation
A sunny area, protected from wind and drafts, is suitable for a garden bed. Strawberries prefer neutral and slightly acidic soil without moisture stagnation. Often this variety is planted on a hill. Before planting, in two weeks, the soil is dug up and additives are added per 1 m2 - organic mixtures (manure, humus) 10 kg and mineral mixtures - 30-40 g (superphosphate), wood ash - 200 g.
They are planted at a distance of 30 cm between bushes and between beds, in holes with a pre-moistened substrate.
Pollination
In the open field, flowering plants are pollinated by insects. Often, the Lyubava variety grows in greenhouses, greenhouses, on the windowsill in an apartment. In closed areas, artificially pollinated: with a soft brush they transfer pollen from flower to flower, you can turn on the fan and pollinate with the help of air waves. For large enclosed areas, it is recommended to install a bee hive.
Top dressing
Strawberry Lyubava quickly depletes the soil in the place on which it grows. During the season, the bushes are fed 5-6 times. Gardeners are not advised to use fresh manure as fertilizer. It is better to give preference to other types: humus, bird droppings. The first top dressing is applied between the rows in a dry form. Mineral fertilizers are used carefully: it is better to alternate with organic ones. In the spring, they use nitrogen (infusion of mullein or chicken droppings), before flowering - phosphorus, potash, in the fall - complex preparations without nitrogen.
One of the important techniques in strawberry care is feeding. Regular fertilization guarantees a rich harvest. There are several different ways to feed strawberries, and each of them is designed for a specific period of plant development. During flowering, fruiting and after it, feeding should be different.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
The Lyubava variety surpasses all foreign remontant varieties in resistance to low temperatures. With a snowless winter, it is recommended to cover the bushes with geotextiles.
Diseases and pests
Differs in high resistance to powdery mildew, brown spot, gray mold, strawberry mite. Gardeners rarely treat Lyubava bushes with chemicals. The variety is vulnerable to a nematode, in order to get rid of the disease, the affected areas are removed and burned. For prophylaxis, plants are sprayed with insecticides, for example, Iskra.
Strawberries are often subject to many dangerous diseases that can seriously undermine their condition. Among the most common are powdery mildew, gray mold, brown spot, anthracnose, and verticillosis. Before buying a variety, you need to inquire about its disease resistance.
Reproduction
The variety gives a few mustache - the rosettes begin to bloom and bear fruit before they take root. Layers are used for planting on beds. And also strawberries are propagated by dividing the bush when transplanting every 2 years to a new bed.
A popular way to renew a variety is by sowing seeds. Sowing is carried out from early February to April. The seeds are soaked and germinated before being placed in containers with a mixture of sand, peat and garden soil. The seedlings are transferred to open ground when they have 5-6 leaves, and the ground on the site warms up. Depending on the climate, the procedure is carried out in May-June.
Review overview
The unpretentious and disease-resistant remontant hybrid has become a favorite of many gardeners. He surprises avid gardeners with berries in September and October, while other types of strawberries are already preparing for winter. I really like the high taste of the berry and the ability to bear fruit throughout the summer.
