The Galia CIV strawberry, which is considered universal, is not very transportable, but it is loved for the sweetness of the taste and the size of the berries. This variety, which arrived in Russia from Italy, copes well with cold weather, is not afraid of drought. It can be safely recommended for planting in areas in the Central and Central Black Earth regions, as well as in mountain climates.
Breeding history of the variety
The Italian consortium of nursery breeders C. I. V. is the originator of this variety. Galya Chiv is recommended for growing in private gardening or on commercial plantations of a small area.
Description of the variety
The medium-sized strawberry Galya Chiv forms tall bushes, rather powerful, but slightly spreading. Shoots are covered with large leaves. The color of their plates is bright green, the surface is slightly corrugated. Peduncles are located high, on the same level with the leaves, they are rather long and thick. Up to 20 ovaries are formed on each.
The root system of this strawberry variety is well developed. The underground part of the plant goes deep, which allows it not to remain without moisture, even in dry periods.
Ripening terms
Galya Chiv is a strawberry of late fruiting. It bears harvest in July, throughout the month.
Yield
This variety is considered to be a high-yielding strawberry. From a bush is collected from 300 to 800 grams of berries. For industrial cultivation, rates vary from 5 t / ha in the first year to 24 t / ha in the second. Then the rates go down.
Berries and their taste
The fruits of Galya Chiv strawberries weigh from 20 to 70 g. They are distinguished by a sweet taste, pleasant strawberry aroma, according to the tasting assessment, the berries gain 4.6 points out of 5. The shape of the fruits is conical and round, inhomogeneous, the fruits of the first harvest are comb-shaped. The shade of the skin is brick-red, inside is juicy and dense flesh with white veins.
Growing features
Galya Chiv requires the most simple care. It can be grown in a greenhouse or outdoors. Planting is best done in the fall, after harvesting; it is recommended to renew the plantation once every 3 years. Watering of adult plants should be organized through drip irrigation systems or by sprinkling. Bushes must be freed from unnecessary inflorescences and ovaries in order to avoid crushing the fruit.
Site selection and soil preparation
The best soil for Gali Chiv is fertile, with neutral acidity. The nutritional value of the soil is very important, since it affects the size and taste of the berries. The landing site should be sunny, sheltered from the effects of the wind. Loamy soil should be diluted with a mixture of peat and humus.
It is good if the site can be sown with green manure in advance or left under fallow. After that, it remains only to dig it up, select weeds and insect larvae. Strawberries are planted with a density of up to 6 bushes per 1 m2. It is recommended to arrange the plants in a checkerboard pattern or in rows, according to the 40 × 60 cm scheme. Young strawberries are not buried, leaving the central rosette above the ground level.
Pollination
The large flowers of this strawberry produce enough pollen. No additional effort is required to form the ovaries.
One of the important techniques in strawberry care is feeding. Regular fertilization guarantees a rich harvest. There are several different ways to feed strawberries, and each of them is designed for a specific period of plant development. During flowering, fruiting and after it, feeding should be different.
Frost resistance and the need for shelter
The variety does not need shelter when the air temperature drops to -30 degrees.
Diseases and pests
Galya Chiv is a variety that fully complies with European standards for the degree of resistance to diseases and pests. Strawberries are able to resist the development of brown and white spots. The degree of resistance to these diseases is medium. For the prevention of fungal infections, it is recommended to mulch the surface of the soil with straw, and then cover it with agrospan.
Strawberries are often subject to many dangerous diseases that can seriously undermine its condition. Among the most common are powdery mildew, gray mold, brown spot, anthracnose, and verticillosis. Before buying a variety, you need to inquire about its disease resistance.
Reproduction
The Galya Chiv variety gives few mustaches. Accordingly, one cannot count on a rapid increase in plantation volumes. However, this does not prevent summer residents from propagating the variety in this way. The whiskers are dug in if it is necessary to get young plants, then they are separated from the mother bush after the formation of their own roots.
Review overview
The Galya Chiv variety is one of the most controversial in the Russian market. This strawberry has received numerous positive evaluations from professionals for its yield, ability to produce very large fruits. The pluses include summer residents and the moment that the berries on the peduncles do not hang too close to the ground. They remain clean, well protected from fungal infections.
At the same time, the Galya Chiv variety is scolded for too light shade of berries - Russian consumers are used to darker varieties. If there is not enough sun, there may be problems with the taste of the fruit. In addition, strawberries do not tolerate transportation very well. The fruits are insufficiently calibrated, with difficulty they are separated from the stem - it is impossible to do this without damage.
