Strawberries are the most popular berry. It can be found in many household plots and gardens. The Aromas strawberry variety was developed in California, USA. However, it grows well in the harsh Russian conditions, if you provide it with competent care.

Description of the variety

Aromas is a fairly strong strawberry variety, it has good potential in terms of health, disease resistance. The variety is suitable both for freshly harvested consumption and for conservation. The fruits are large, with a pronounced taste and aroma, thanks to which the variety got its name. The bushes are straight, rather tall and with a raised habit, but generally compact in size. The maximum height of the bush is 40 cm, the root system is very well developed.

The foliage is round, has a serrated edging, and rises well above the soil. The leaves grow actively, the flowers are large, and quite a lot of berries are formed on them. The mustache of this variety grows intensively. Aromas is a relatively new variety for the Russian area, but it is rapidly gaining popularity. In many ways, its relevance is due to the following positive characteristics:

  • very sweet fruits with a rich strawberry aroma;
  • in a greenhouse or under a film, strawberries can grow all year round;
  • comfortable to moisten and loosen, as the bushes rise above the soil;
  • perfectly tolerates heat;
  • the crop can be transported without problems;
  • excellent resistance to diseases, insects;
  • impeccable performance with proper care.

There are also disadvantages that should also be considered:

  • the fruit pulp is not too soft;
  • if the soil is of a calcareous type, chlorosis is possible;
  • the taste and juiciness of the fruit is highly dependent on the quality of moisture, soil composition, sun;
  • high risks of death in the heat without proper watering.

This variety is winter-hardy, in the southern regions it is not even sheltered. But in the northern zones, it is worthwhile to reliably hide the plant for the winter. It is necessary to remove the peduncles, mulch the beds, cover them with spruce branches or agrofibre before frost.

Ripening terms

This remontant strawberry variety bears fruit in the period from the last days of May to the first cold weather. Ripening period is average, depending on the region of cultivation. Sometimes it can be shifted to the beginning of June. The second ripening wave already brings more than half of the total harvest. The rest ripens by about autumn.

Yield

The first fruits are quite rare in quantity, but from the second wave they become more and more. The approximate yield depends on care and ranges from 700 to 1200 fruits per season. The weight of the berries also varies - from 25 to 40 grams.

Berries and their taste

Aromas resembles a cone in shape, sometimes they look more like a heart, but in any case there is a pointed end. The color is saturated, red, at first bright, but then it becomes more and more dark. The consistency is dense, but there are no voids inside. The surface has a glossy sheen. Aromas is stored and transported very well.

As for the taste, it can change depending on the ripeness of the fruit, climate, soil composition. All violations of acidity immediately affect the sweetness: it decreases, and the sourness comes to the fore.You can judge the taste by the color: the darker the tone, the brighter and richer the taste of the berry. The fruits of the autumn period of growth ripen longer, since they receive less sunlight.

Growing features

Aromas is not a very capricious variety. However, it is not recommended to throw in beds with berries, because this will immediately affect the quality of the crop. There are three most important aspects of growing this strawberry variety.

  • Moisturizing. This representative of the flora is very fond of water. It needs to be irrigated constantly, at least once every 7 days. If the weather is sunny and hot, you will have to water the berries every day or every two days. Excess or lack of moisture will negatively affect the taste of strawberries. If there is not enough water, the berries will sour; if there is a lot, they will rot.
  • Loosening and weeds. This nuance is very important, even at the planting stage. Be sure to check the soil for roots. It is necessary to weed and loosen the soil in time. Loosening should not be deep: 4 cm deep is enough.
  • Mustache trimming. Since the mustache grows very actively, the reproduction of Aromas strawberries is not a problem. It is optimal to divide the bushes into uterine and fruitful ones. From the first, the peduncles are removed and the mustache is left, from the fruiting ones, all antennae are removed.
When and how to plant strawberries so that they bring a rich harvest is a question that novice gardeners often ask themselves. The berries can be planted in the ground in spring, summer and autumn. Each season has its own characteristics of planting.
Strawberries are the most beloved and popular berry in our gardens. Even in the smallest plots, there will always be a place for it, since every year there are more and more unexpected and original solutions for its cultivation. Strawberries are grown in the form of a carpet, rows, nests, in addition to many different original options. Everyone chooses their own way depending on the area of the site and its design.
Watering strawberries, like any other garden crop, should be in compliance with all the necessary recommendations. During the fruiting period, including the ripening of the fruits, the amount of moisture should be sufficient for the harvest to be a decent amount, and the berries are tasty and aromatic. If you neglect watering, or water little and not enough, then the strawberries can dry out. With excessive moisture, the berries can rot.
Speaking of pruning strawberries, most often it is the removal of leaves on fertile bushes that is meant. This is done to partially rejuvenate the plant, to get rid of damaged, diseased leaves, to prevent bacterial and fungal infections, to reduce the number of harmful insects.

Site selection and soil preparation

Strawberries of this variety are planted year-round when it comes to the balcony or greenhouse method. Aromas are planted in open ground on cloudy days, it is best to do this at the end of the last month of summer or at the very beginning of autumn. In the southern regions, you can plant until October. In the spring, Aromas are planted after the soil warms up to +15 degrees. You can plant strawberries in the summer, in the last week of July: in this case, the berries will fully bring the harvest for the next year.

Do not forget about soil preparation: if the soil is acidic, it must be neutralized with dolomite flour, lime. The bed must be dug up in advance to the full length of the bayonet, and after a month you can start landing. When digging, do not forget to add humus, ash, superphosphates, potassium.

Aromas is a variety that loves free space and sunlight. The bushes grow compactly, but you should not plant them close to each other. You can plant berries in a cascade, using as a gardener. The optimal planting scheme is as follows: at least 30 cm remains between the bushes, the row spacing is half a meter. After planting, be sure to water the strawberries every day for about a week and a half, then you can go to the standard mode.

The soil for strawberries should be saturated with organic matter. The plant grows best on light loamy or sandy loam soil. Black soil and gray forest soil are also excellent for cultivation. It is undesirable to plant strawberries on clay soil.

Pollination

The remontant strawberry Aromas is pollinated in the open field by itself: it is enough to plant only a few bisexual bushes. But in a greenhouse or at home, you need to do this artificially. Not everyone is able to acquire bees and bumblebees, especially if the landing site is small. Manual pollination is enough, when pollen is transferred from one bush to others with a brush, brush or cotton wool. This is done several times a day, while trying to distribute the pollen evenly. Greenhouses are often equipped with electrical pollination equipment.

Top dressing

It is important to constantly feed Aromas strawberries, as it bears fruit quite actively. The feeding scheme is as follows:

  • in the spring, you need to fertilize with nitrogen: mullein, droppings;
  • when flowering, use fertilizers of a comprehensive plan purchased in special stores;
  • in the summer, twice a month, it is necessary to fertilize with compounds with phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium;
  • in the fall, you need to enrich the soil with a phosphorus-potassium composition.

Bushes are processed in the evening or in the morning.

One of the important techniques in strawberry care is feeding. Regular fertilization guarantees a rich harvest. There are several different ways to feed strawberries, and each of them is designed for a specific period of plant development. During flowering, fruiting and after it, feeding should be different.

In order for strawberries to delight us with an abundance of large and sweet berries next year, they need to be properly prepared for winter. The set of measures for preparing strawberries for the cold includes: pruning, watering, feeding, loosening, pest control, mulching and shelter.

Diseases and pests

The immunity of this variety is high, so spots and other infections are not afraid of it. Prevention is carried out with folk remedies:

  • scattering of mustard between bushes;
  • spraying with a manganese solution.

Marigolds, fennel, garlic, and onions will also help against pests and diseases. The soil will be richer if you plant legumes next to it: peas, beans.

Strawberries are often subject to many dangerous diseases that can seriously undermine their condition. Among the most common are powdery mildew, gray mold, brown spot, anthracnose, and verticillosis. Before buying a variety, you need to inquire about its disease resistance.

Reproduction

Seedlings should be renewed every three years. Usov Aromas gives out a lot, so you don't have to suffer with seeds. It is enough to abundantly irrigate the berries in the summer for the rosettes to form more actively.

Strawberries or garden strawberries multiply very easily. The most common way to obtain planting material is to grow young plants from vegetative shoots - whiskers. Seedlings are also obtained by dividing the bush.
