Clematis "Mazury": description of the variety and features of its cultivation
Lianas are increasingly used in the design of private plots in our country. Hybrid clematis "Mazury" cannot be ignored. It is becoming more and more popular. We will talk about the features of its cultivation in our article.
Description
This variety originates in Poland. It appeared not so long ago, but it can already boast of receiving a significant award at an exhibition in Warsaw. It is large-flowered and has characteristic features. Flowers are the pride of the variety. They are very large, up to 17 centimeters in diameter, and terry. They have a rich blue or lilac hue, as well as light spots on the petals, giving a certain airiness. Plant height can reach 3 meters. Leaf petioles tightly wrap around the support.
The flowering period begins in July and ends in September. It is successfully grown in the Far East and in the European part of Russia. When growing in the northern regions, clematis requires shelter for the winter, but in other cases it easily copes even with a significant drop in temperature.
Trimming group
Experts attribute this vine to the third group. It is characterized by the fact that the flowering period falls in the summer and early fall. In winter, the stems die, so every year with the onset of heat, last year's shoots are cut off about 30 centimeters from the ground.
New stems appear annually. To achieve this, it is necessary to remove everything, leaving 2-3 living kidneys. In this case, young shoots will appear, which will eventually bloom.
Pruning will need to be done in the first year of the plant's life. In late winter or early spring, clematis is pruned 10 centimeters from the ground. This is necessary so that the flowers grow from the very base and are located more densely. You can refuse the procedure, but in this case the expected effect will not be. You can not pay special attention to leaving the kidneys, since underground sprouts will appear from the nodes.
The procedure does not depend on the climatic zone in which the plant is grown. It is necessary in any case, even if the winter was rather warm and the stems were not frozen. Pruning allows clematis to bloom more actively, since old shoots will not take away his strength.
Planting and leaving
In order to avoid troubles, Clematis "Mazury" is recommended to be purchased at specialized retail outlets. On the seedlings, you can find the mark "marque". It means that the roots of the plant were placed in a moist substrate, and the plant itself was in a cool place. Gardeners are advised to pay attention to some subtleties. First of all, you need to decide on the place. It largely depends on how comfortable the liana will feel. There is a list of requirements for the site that you need to try to meet.
Liana of this variety needs light. Penumbra is also acceptable, but if possible, it is better to provide good lighting. It is necessary to protect it from wind and drafts. Humidity should be moderate, so low-lying areas are not a good idea. And you should also consider a competent drainage system.
Planting clematis "Mazuri" is carried out in the spring, but in the southern latitudes it is permissible to carry out the procedure in the fall. First of all, you should prepare a square pit 50 centimeters deep and wide. A drainage layer is laid at the bottom, which will relieve the roots of excess moisture and, accordingly, protect them from decay. In the case when planting is carried out in clay soil, horse or cow manure mixed with river sand in proportions of 1: 2 should be added to the hole. A mound is made in the hole, on which the roots are neatly placed. If the trunk of the plant has time to become woody, the neck is deepened by 10 centimeters. Next, the earth is filled up and slightly compacted.
Watering should be carried out regularly, as drying out of the soil can harm the plant. The ground should be mulched by 15-25 centimeters.
And also during the season it is necessary to observe that the stems envelop the support and stretch along it.
Preparing for winter
Clematis "Mazury" is frost-resistant, but this does not mean that measures to prepare it for winter are not required. First of all, the roots of the plant should be covered with a bucket of humus. Further, the stems are carefully removed from the supports and placed on this mound. On top is spruce branches or a cloth moistened with vinegar - this will help protect the vine from mice. And finally, the final touch is the nonwoven covering to keep warm.
Spring activities
The first procedure that is carried out in relation to clematis after the retreat of cold weather is pruning. Humus, which was poured in the fall, will need to be leveled. It is not necessary to immediately remove the nonwoven material, because the spring sun's rays are quite aggressive, moreover, frosts are not uncommon during this period.
During the growing season, the liana will need feeding. It is necessary to choose formulations with a nitrogen content. The procedure is repeated twice. After that, emphasis should be placed on phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. The better the roots are, the more actively clematis will grow and bloom.
Reproduction
To keep this variety as pure as possible, breeders have abandoned seed propagation. Among the methods are cuttings, dividing a bush or assigning a vine. Regardless of which one is chosen, the procedure should be carried out in spring or summer. Let's consider each option in more detail.
Cuttings
This method will require planting material, the role of which will be played by the middle part of the stem to the area where the buds open. Each of the cuttings should have only 2 leaves. The first step is to prepare the tools. The knife should be as sharp as possible, in addition, it must be disinfected. You only need to use the middle part of the stem. If there are 2 pairs of leaves in the required area, you should get rid of the lower one.
Next, you need to retreat from the internodes down 6-7 centimeters, and make an oblique cut there. This will help improve root formation. Cuttings are placed in a special solution for several hours. You can use monosodium glutamate, solution of "Kornevin", "Zircon" and similar formulations. The proportions are indicated on the packaging of the preparations. Cuttings are planted in partial shade. They will need loose earth to allow air and nutrients to enter. The specimen is placed in the ground up to the very leaves. On top you need to place a plastic bottle with the bottom cut off. This will create a greenhouse effect and help the plant take root faster. It is better to keep the roots in special containers and plant with them.
Leading the vine
This method is much simpler, accordingly, it is more often used by gardeners. Having departed from the vine about 20 centimeters, you need to dig a small moat into which humus is placed. During the growth of the stem, it fits into this place and is pinned.
In these places, the growth of roots and new stems begins. When the shoot becomes lignified, it will need to be covered with humus. When a vine needs to be planted on another piece of land, in the spring the branch, along with the roots, is separated and placed in a prepared hole.
Dividing the bush
This method is also not too difficult. However, gardeners prefer to avoid it, since injuries to the mother plant take place, as a result of which it can get sick and bloom not as abundantly as before. Nevertheless, it must be borne in mind that this method can be used only when the vine turns 3 years old.
To propagate clematis "Mazuri" using this method, you can as follows. The bush is carefully dug out along with the roots, which are washed in warm water and unraveled by hand.
In the process, the plant is divided into several parts, and the umbilical cords are cut with a sharp knife.
