Sizes of one-and-a-half facing brick
Regardless of the fact that the modern construction market is represented by a wide variety of materials, brick, as before, is widely popular among both amateur builders and professionals. This robust, durable and versatile material is available in several standard sizes.
At the same time, the dimensions of a one-and-a-half brick are in greatest demand in the construction and decoration of buildings, which is a significant saving in its use.
Dimensions as standard
The main point in the standardization of brick sizes is the following proportions 1: 1/2: 1/4. This aspect ratio is optimal for masonry with a rotation of the transverse and longitudinal placement. In individual construction, single brick is in demand, its consumption per 1 m³ of masonry is 513 pieces.
According to the state regulations available on the territory of the Russian Federation, the size of a standard single product is equal to:
- 25 centimeters in length;
- 12 centimeters wide;
- 6.5 centimeters in height.
In addition to single bricks, the building materials market offers other types of standard sizes:
- one and a half;
- double.
One and a half building material began to be produced during the industrialization of the country in order to accelerate the pace of construction. The standard consumption of bricks is 318 pieces per 1 m³. A characteristic indicator of a one-and-a-half product is the added height; GOST defines the following standard product parameters:
- 25 centimeters in length;
- 12 centimeters wide;
- 8.8 centimeters in height.
Brick double, having the same 25 centimeters in length and 12 centimeters in width, has a height of 13.8 centimeters... Based on the considerable size, to reduce the weight of the product, double bricks are usually made hollow. It is widely practiced in various fields of construction. Height-added products are practiced for the construction of both civil and industrial facilities.
Dimensions "lorry" in 1 cubic meter. m
As we already know, a one-and-a-half brick stands out for its greater height. This category includes silicate (white) products, which are used when it is required to significantly accelerate the construction time of a structure. Walls made of this material are not particularly attractive because they are finished.
Typical dimensions of white brick - 250x120x88 mm. The volume of this product is equal to 2640 cubic centimeters, as a result of which there are 379 pieces in 1 m³.
If construction work needs to be completed as soon as possible, double brick is used.
Its dimensions are 250x120x138, and the volume of one brick is 4140 cubic centimeters. 1 m³ contains 255 products of this type.
How to choose the material for the facade?
All samples of facing products differ in the manufacturing method and the components included in the structure. Actually, this affects the initial result, determining the characteristics of the material and its appearance.
Varieties of finishing bricks
There are the following types of bricks on the building materials market:
- white (silicate);
- ceramic;
- clinker;
- hard pressing brick.
Each of them has its own pros and cons.
Silicate
Such products are often used for outdoor decoration, because the cost of the material is one of the most affordable. The manufacturing technique consists in the fact that a solution of lime, quartz sand and special components is dry pressed with a gradual increase in temperature.
The standard color for this option is white, but when paint is added, a more diverse decorative component is obtained.
The advantages of silicate bricks are as follows.
- Frost resistance... Brick is able to withstand a huge number of freezing and thawing cycles.
- Security... The structure, methods, techniques and sequence of manufacturing do not affect environmental friendliness, as a result of which the products do not have a negative impact on health.
- Availability... It is the most inexpensive material available.
- Optimum strength... The resulting surface is able to withstand all sorts of weather influences, provided that the masonry is correct.
Let us also mention the disadvantages.
- Decent weight... Due to this, the load on the foundation increases, as a result of this, in order to cover the surface with silicate bricks, the structure must be thoroughly strengthened.
- Little visual appeal... The material has no texture, and even the dye does not give the desired result.
- Thermal conductivity... This characteristic of this product is high, as a result of which, under difficult natural and climatic conditions, additional insulation is required.
Ceramic
This product is the main competitor of the above, therefore, the question often arises which of the bricks is better: ceramic or white (silicate). Of course, making ceramics is more difficult, the difficulty lies in choosing the right raw materials. Only high quality clay with small impurities of other components is used for the manufacture.... Since the color of the material is often red, the final product turns out to be just that color, but other varieties also come across.
If required, the feedstock can be colored. The production technique is that the mass is first molded, then sent to a highly heated furnace. Actually, the quality level of the product depends on the correct preparation of the mixture and its firing.
The brick should have a deep red color with a brownish tint, and with a weak impact on it, a specific ringing should be heard. It should be borne in mind that even minor violations of technology give rise to a marriage. Such flaws can be identified visually.
If the product has burnt zones, then it was overexposed at high temperatures, the brick will be brittle. With insufficient temperature and lack of firing time, the product comes out faded, has high moisture absorption, there is no ringing on impact.
The advantages are as follows.
- External appearance... Ceramic bricks can vary in color, size and configuration. This contributes to the implementation of various design tasks.
- Life time... The durability of the surface realized from these products is calculated for more than one decade.
- Sound and heat insulation... The product perfectly retains heat, protects against the penetration of extraneous noise and cold.
The only negative is the violation of the manufacturing method. Therefore, when buying products, you need to pay special attention directly to this circumstance.
Hard pressing (hyper-pressed)
Such a decorative product has a surface that is more close to natural stone. For the manufacture, a fraction of natural materials, cement, shell rock and minerals-pigments are used... The mixture is pressed and exposed to high temperatures.
Facing bricks of hard pressing have many advantages: strength and long service life, the coating perfectly tolerates a large number of temperature cycles. But due to the considerable mass and high cost, the product is not in great demand.
Clinker
It is somewhat similar to ceramics, but a more refractory type of clay is used for its manufacture, and firing is carried out at extremely high temperatures. Thanks to this, the product acquires excellent protective and decorative properties. But this also affects the final price: it increases greatly.
Exterior decoration is often done with brick-like tiles, which are much cheaper and easier to finish the surface.
What's better?
When choosing a facade coating, it must be remembered that the main competitors are ceramic and silicate types. Both varieties are quite popular, but the first one stands out especially.
This can be explained by its positive characteristics.
- Specifications... The material is highly durable and has a low moisture absorption rate. Perfectly withstands over 130 freeze and thaw cycles, the clad building receives a long service life.
- Thermal insulation properties... Ceramics not only keep the cold out and keep warm, but also contributes to the formation of a favorable microclimate inside the building.
- Minimum base load... If you find the best option, then this will reduce the load on the structure.
- Decorativeness... A large number of types are produced, differing in color, configuration and texture.
When choosing between silicate and ceramic, good ceramic is the best option.
Silicate has only one advantage over ceramics - lower cost. Naturally, with a limited budget, this will be the best solution. And the required visual result can be achieved by painting the surface, for example, cream, apricot, peach, light yellow, etc.
