How to make a flower pot from a mayonnaise bucket?
It is difficult for a creative person to sit back. And if there are flowers in the house, and you have an empty bucket of mayonnaise at hand, you can start creating a unique flower pot. Let's look at the basic technique for creating such an accessory from a mayonnaise bucket and ideas for decorating it.
What do you need?
To make a flower pot, you need to prepare:
- the bucket itself;
- gypsum;
- acrylic paints;
- scraps of tissue (optional);
- putty;
- acrylic lacquer;
- sandpaper;
- glue gun;
- egg tray made of cardboard.
Manufacturing
The process of creating an original pot from a plastic bucket will consist of a series of sequential steps. First, drainage holes are made on the bottom. After that, the bucket is cleaned of mayonnaise residues, washed, wiped dry and sanded with sandpaper to roughen the surface. This is necessary for better fixation of the plaster. After grinding, the surface is dust-free.
Gypsum is diluted with water to the consistency of liquid sour cream.
If the pot will have a fabric decoration, then you need to perform the following sequence of actions. Textile rags, cut into narrow strips, are soaked in the resulting solution. They are squeezed out and wrapped in a bucket at the top edge. In this case, you can form folds, lay them at your own discretion. Do the same from below, at the base of the pot. The pot is wrapped over the entire area, after which the plaster is allowed to dry.
In the center, you can make a decorative plaster ornament using prepared cut-out stencils. Next, they take sandpaper and trim the product, removing defects.
Decorative elements are made from a tray for chicken eggs, forming them in the form of flowers. After assembly, they are also covered with acrylic paint and then glued to the pot. If the pot is decorated with fabric, then it is important to fix the elements to the fabric.
It remains to paint the product, let it dry and cover with acrylic varnish. The flower pot is ready.
Ideas for creativity
Today, a creative person has at his disposal a huge list of various raw materials, through which the design of a pot can be performed. Some people like to use a decorative cord, others use the most ordinary newspaper or magazines, working in the papier-mâché technique. Still others prefer decoupage technique. Whatever the choice of the master, you need to take into account the nuances of the operation of this product.
Considering that it will be exposed to moisture, even cement can be used for it. By the way, creating such an option for a pot is as easy as shelling pears: you just need to thoroughly soak an unnecessary towel in the cement mortar and fix it on a bucket, forming the sides and upper edges. Once dry, the cement can be painted over. If you want something different, the material allows decoration after the wrapping stage.
You can supplement the cemented fabric with glass, mirror or tile mosaics, pebbles, shells, coins, or even cereals. It all depends on the desire of the master and the speed of work, since the pattern will have to be laid out quickly, taking into account the hardening of the cement.
One of the interesting options would be to decorate the pot with an ornament made by means of lace braid. This can be done by spraying paint from a spray can. You can decorate a pot with a similar lace by soaking the braid with cement mortar.
Decoupage will not hide the base of the bucket, and therefore it is often combined with other methods for making a pot. It is easiest to use paint, but in order to refine the appearance of the bucket, you must first pay attention to the upper edge of the future pot. For this, you can use lace with openwork. Such a top of the product always looks beautiful and unusual. For practical purposes, the textiles will have to be varnished with acrylic varnish.
You can decorate the product on top with coins, ribbons, beads. You can turn an ordinary mayonnaise bucket into a beautiful and functional flower pot by decorating it with a knitted lace napkin. The same options as newspaper tubes, although they look unusual, are not suitable for design due to their impracticality. Under the influence of moisture, such a pot can quickly deteriorate. This decor cannot be completely saturated with acrylic lacquer, which protects the surface from water.
If the pot is used not for flowers, but, say, for storing small household items, then both newspaper tubes and veil textiles with embroidery can be used for decoration. The same can be said about the string: it looks beautiful and stylish, but without moisture-resistant impregnation, the product can only be used for decorative purposes (for example, as an interior accessory). If, for example, you want to create a pot-box in this way, techniques such as kanzashi and weaving from thin ribbons will be appropriate here.
