Zorachka is one of the most popular potato varieties in Russia, which pleases gardeners with an early ripening period. The young crop has a high yield rate, producing delicious root crops.

Breeding history

Breeders from Belarus were engaged in breeding the variety. The state register included Zorachka potatoes only in 2013, when the plant passed all the necessary tests.

Description of the variety

Zorachka belongs to the group of table plants with an early maturity. Main characteristics:

  • the bush is low and semi-upright;

  • leaves are small, deep green;

  • flowers are small, reddish-purple.

Potatoes stand out among other varieties with powerful shoots.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

Zorachka is characterized by smooth-skinned tubers with an oval shape and small eyes located at a great distance from each other. The color of the peel is yellow with small blotches of dark shades. The average weight of one tuber ranges from 92 to 119 g.

The flesh of the potato is firm, light yellow in color, poorly boiled.

Purpose and taste of tubers

Tasters rate the taste characteristics of the root vegetables as good. Potatoes can be grown on an industrial scale for the further sale of young tubers to consumers.

Zorachka fruits are not stored for a long time, therefore it is recommended to eat them fresh.

Maturation

The bush forms the first root crops already on the 45th day, if we count from the day of planting. The time of full maturity of potatoes is 70-75 days. After this period, you can harvest.

Yield

The average yield per hectare is 254-316 centners. The fruits of potatoes are large, with proper care of the variety, it will be possible to collect up to 383 centners per hectare.

Growing regions

At the moment, the variety is used for planting:

  • in the Central and North-West regions of the Russian Federation;

  • in Moldova;

  • in Ukraine;

  • in Belarus.

In the northern regions, the plant does not take root and dies.

Growing and care

Before starting planting, the tubers are prepared.

  1. Root crops are carefully dried after harvesting, pre-selecting large and medium-sized root crops, setting the box in places where direct sunlight does not penetrate.

  2. In spring, whole large potatoes are selected.

  3. Potatoes are germinated by placing them in a dry and warm place, having previously been laid out in boxes.

  4. They accelerate the germination of potatoes by sprinkling sawdust and regularly sprinkling with water.

  5. Cover the defended tubers with a thick cloth to prevent the negative effects of sunlight.

While the potatoes are growing roots, they begin to prepare the site for planting. Everything is simple here: the gardener digs holes, observing a distance of 35-40 cm between them. It is customary to retreat up to 60 cm between the rows.

When the tubers are ready, they are planted to a depth of 10 or 7 cm, depending on the size. Organic fertilizers are applied to the holes before planting.

To achieve a high yield of Zorachka, you need to think about caring for the plant. Main steps.

  1. Watering. One of the important parameters, as this culture requires a lot of water. Basically, watering is carried out after planting, as well as during flowering. On average, up to 4 liters of water is added under the bush so that the water penetrates into the ground to a depth of 30 cm.

  2. Top dressing. Timely soil fertilization makes potatoes tastier. The first part of the fertilizer is applied during the growing period of the tops, using organic compounds. The second time - during flowering, but with mineral fertilizers. The last feeding is carried out during the period of bud fall.

  3. Loosening and weeding. Both procedures are necessary to saturate the potato roots with the required amount of oxygen. In addition, regular weeding and loosening improves the quality of the crop and increases the yield. Finally, removing weeds prevents the spread of diseases and pests.

  4. Hilling. Zorachka, like any potato, requires several hilling procedures per season. For the first time, the earth is piled up when the bush reaches a height of 15 cm.Further, the procedure is carried out after 2 weeks, then after 4 weeks.

With the onset of unexpected frosts, the potatoes are covered with dense materials, additionally mulching the ground around the bush.

Zorachka prefers to grow in loam or sandy loam soils. And also peat or forest soil with a shallow level of groundwater is suitable for planting. Before planting, it is recommended to add sand, humus and lime to the ground, which will also help normalize the acid-base balance.

It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The variety has high immunity. However, potatoes are not able to cope with:

  • late blight;

  • Y-virus.
