The German table potato Vineta is a good choice for connoisseurs of early young tubers. Its taste is rated very highly, and its strong immunity to most diseases helps summer residents minimize the time spent on caring for plants. The variety has successfully taken root in Russia; in the southern regions, summer residents manage to collect 2 crops per season.
Breeding history
The variety was obtained by the originator Klaus Gunther from Germany. Registered by EUROPLANT Pflanzenzucht GmbH. It was registered in the Russian State Register in 2001.
Description of the variety
The variety is medium-sized, versatile, unpretentious. Vineta is suitable for industrial cultivation, quite common in farms. At home, in Germany, it did not become very famous due to its rough skin, but in other countries of southern Europe it spread rather quickly. The variety is distinguished by amicable ripening, density of the core, good balance of starch in the pulp. Due to its good immunity, Vineta is suitable for organic farming; the plants do not have to be sprayed with pesticides for protection.
Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops
There are 10-12 tubers per bush, weighing 67-95 g. They are covered with a yellow skin with a rough, slightly reticular structure. The tubers are oval-round in shape, without pronounced defects, with a smooth, non-cracking surface. The flesh under the skin is light yellow, the eyes on the surface are slightly deepened.
The bush itself is spreading, with light green tops, slightly wavy at the edges. The flowers on the plant are small, white. The bushes grow up to 70 cm in height, have ribbed, well-developed shoots. They grow quickly, at the end of the season they give seed material that retains the characteristics of the parent plant.
Purpose and taste of tubers
Potatoes with excellent taste, suitable for boiling, frying, making soups. The pulp is not prone to darkening. Poorly boiled. Table tubers with high marketability - up to 87-97% and keeping quality about 87%.
Maturation
Very early variety. It takes only 60-70 days from the moment of germination to harvest. Harvesting is possible in a mechanized way. Tubers are not damaged with it.
Yield
Vineta is a high-yielding potato. Average collection rates are 160-228 kg / ha. The maximum yield reaches 238 c / ha.
Growing regions
In Russia, the variety is zoned for the North Caucasus, the Urals, the central and chernozem regions, and the Middle Volga region.
Growing and caring
The variety is sensitive to excess nitrogen. If the rate of fertilizer in the soil is exceeded, the bushes develop worse, slow down their growth. And also the variety does not like excess moisture. Watering during the growing season is not needed for this variety.
Top dressing is not done since the flowering of the bush. Prior to this, in the spring, humus, potash fertilizers and superphosphate are applied to the field before planting. Ammonium nitrate is added before the first hilling. Before budding, a mixture of potassium-phosphorus dressings is given.
Tubers are planted in early May or a little earlier, based on the climatic characteristics of the region. The tubers are pre-germinated. Every year the area for potatoes is changed. The Vinet variety is suitable for a planting pattern of 45x75 cm with a depth of about 100 mm.
It is necessary to huddle the bushes 2 times, supporting and forming a high ridge. It retains moisture and promotes abundant yields. You can carry out hilling with a walk-behind tractor. After the appearance of the first shoots, loosening and weeding of the weeds must be performed.
Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.
Soil requirements
Vineta is not a very demanding variety in terms of soil selection. But clay, very dense soils, leading to stagnant moisture, are not suitable for him. Legumes will be a good predecessor for it. In general, the soil should be loose, well-permeable to air and water, and fertile. The terrain should be leveled by removing lowlands and hills with a pronounced difference in ground level.
Required climatic conditions
Plants tolerate drought well. Adapted to the short summer season, suitable for growing in areas where spring comes late. During prolonged rainy periods, most of the bushes are affected by late blight.
Disease and pest resistance
The general assessment of the immunity of Vineta potatoes is considered high. It is resistant to viruses, leaf curling, potato cancer, wrinkled and banded mosaics. Practically not affected by golden nematode. But the variety is susceptible to late blight both on the leaves and on the tubers. In order to prevent the planting material, it is recommended to subject it to a disinfecting treatment.
Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.
Review overview
According to summer residents and farmers, Vineta potatoes are among the best early varieties. Tubers are harvested from it calibrated, beautiful and clean, with a thin peel. The yellow dense pulp does not deform when cut into slices, retains its attractiveness. The yield is also surprising, from 0.5 kg of potatoes are harvested from the bush, the taste is excellent, as is the keeping quality. The tubers are stored successfully, although most of them are still eaten during the summer and autumn seasons.
It is also noted that potatoes of this variety are not prone to crushing fruits, they gain weight well. In the Kuban, summer residents choose the period from mid to late March for planting potatoes. So it is possible to get a second crop of tubers before the end of summer. Those who have been planting these potatoes for many years appreciate Vineta for its lack of signs of degeneration.
Cons are also noticed. On the bushes, signs of late blight still appear, despite the general protection from most diseases. In addition, the tubers are not located in a heap, they creep to the sides of the bush. When digging up a crop, this must be taken into account. Recessed eyes are also not to everyone's liking, as they make it difficult to peel potatoes.
