Despite the fact that the Uladar potato variety is quite young, it is often chosen for both industrial cultivation and for planting in private household plots. And this is no coincidence: it is unpretentious to different climatic conditions, and the quality of the fruits is quite high.

Breeding history

Like many other crops, this one was obtained by employees of the SPC of Potato and Horticulture of the Republic of Belarus in 2008. Such breeders as Kolyadko I.I., Piskun G.I., Vologdina N.A. and Makhanko V. L. Potato varieties Kolya and Zhivitsa were chosen as the parental pair. The selection result - the Uladar variety - took all the best from its parents: early ripening, excellent fruit taste.

Interestingly, the potato variety owes its name to the film "The Lord of the Rings", which was released literally on the eve of the creation of a new culture. From the Belarusian language “Uladar” is translated as “lord”. In the State Register of Culture since 2011.

Description of the variety

For 10 years now, this culture has attracted professional farmers and amateur gardeners with its many qualities. The variety is cultivated in large commercial fields, as well as miniature private plots. Among the pluses of culture are:

  • early maturity;
  • high productivity;
  • strong immunity;
  • excellent taste;
  • decent keeping quality;
  • high marketability;
  • unpretentiousness to growing.

And in the southern regions, it is even possible to harvest 2 crops per season. Disadvantages:

  • in a drought, it is necessary to water the bushes;
  • the variety is susceptible to rhizoctonia, as well as attacks of the Colorado potato beetle.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

The bushes of Uladar have an average height: about 0.6 m. The bushes are quite compact, the stems are thin, semi-erect. Leaves of a rich green tone, with wavy edges. Flowering occurs in inflorescences of 10 flowers in a red-violet range.

Root crops are rather large, oblong. The skin of the tubers is thin, smooth, yellow in color. One fruit can weigh 140 g. The flesh is light yellow on the cut, does not darken.

Purpose and taste of tubers

The table potato variety Uladar is classified as culinary type B. The taste data is very high: score 7 on a 10-point system. Potatoes can be fried, used in the preparation of first courses, stewed, baked in the oven. Tubers are poorly cooked, so they are often used for the production of chips.

The product contains 13.8 - 17.5% starch and 0.4% sugars. The pale yellow pulp does not darken. Potato tubers contain a lot of vitamin C, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus.

Maturation

Uladar ripens in 80–90 days and belongs to the early varieties. It is possible to enjoy the first fruits already on the 45th day.

Yield

An average of 127–353 centners of root crops are obtained from an area of 1 hectare. With good agricultural technology, the maximum harvest in the amount of 424 c / ha is possible.

Growing regions

According to the State Register, the variety is zoned for the Central and Northwestern regions of the Russian Federation. However, today the culture is successfully cultivated on the lands of Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, as well as almost throughout the entire Russian territory.

Growing and care

The procedure for planting potatoes from Belarus is not very complicated. The landing site is well-lit by sunlight. It is important not to allow a large waterlogging of the soil, therefore, the depth of the groundwater should be taken into account, which must be more than 50 cm.

Uladar is quite unpretentious to care, as well as to growing conditions, therefore, with the most usual care, it will be possible to get a decent harvest. The main thing is to pay a little attention to watering, hilling, as well as regular weeding of the beds.

The optimal time for planting varietal potatoes is the month of May, after the 15th. At the time of planting, the surface of the earth should already warm up to + 15 ° C, so the planting materials will sprout faster.

The variety can be grown in any soil, but it will bear fruit better on light and loose varieties of soil. Uladar potatoes always give a very good harvest if they are planted in the place where legumes, various perennial grasses, and winter crops used to grow.

The depth to which the Uladar planting material should be planted will depend on the type of substrate, as well as its moisture content. If the soil is sufficiently moist, it is necessary to immerse the roots by 8 cm.On the beds where the soil moisture is low, the tubers are immersed by 12 cm.The planting scheme for the variety in question is as follows:

  • between adjacent holes - 25-30 cm;
  • row spacing - 60 cm.

Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.

Potatoes, like other vegetable crops, need soil moisture. It is important to water the potatoes in a timely manner and in the right amount, then a good harvest will be guaranteed. The frequency of watering and their rate depend on the weather conditions and the characteristics of the climate of the region.
Hilling is one of the procedures that can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and protect them from weeds. When hilling, the growth of both aboveground and underground parts of plants is stimulated. This, in turn, stimulates the establishment of new roots and the formation of tubers.
It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

A culture from Belarus demonstrates a strong immunity in relation to such ailments of potatoes as cancer, mosaics of different types, scab, and also a golden nematode. However, the variety is infected with leaf-rolling viruses, rhizoctonia, and it also suffers from the Colorado potato beetle.

Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But it is unlikely that it will be possible to grow a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.

Harvesting potatoes is just as important as growing them. If you dig too early, the tubers will not have time to grow and ripen, and will be poorly stored.If tightened with harvesting, potatoes can suffer from diseases or bad weather.
It is important not only to grow a good potato crop, but also to preserve it correctly. When creating optimal storage conditions, tubers can lie without spoiling for 9-10 months. Therefore, after harvesting, you need to prepare the potatoes for storage and place them in a suitable place.
