Slavyanka is one of the best potato varieties, attracting summer residents with high yields and excellent commercial characteristics. It is worth considering in more detail the peculiarities of the culture and the technology of its cultivation.

Breeding history

The specialists from the UAAS Institute in Ukraine were engaged in the creation of culture. As a basis, the scientists took virus-free samples with excellent germination and yield rates. The successfully tested Slavyanka potato was first registered in the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2009.

Description of the variety

Slavyanka is a mid-season fruitful variety with good immunity. The plant has almost no drawbacks, with the exception of increased requirements for care.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

Variety characteristics:

  • tall semi-erect bushes;
  • spreading stems;
  • small dark green leaves.

When flowering, the plant forms small-sized flowers of a bluish-blue hue.

Features of potato tubers:

  • the shape is similar to an elongated oval;
  • the skin is partially red, even and thin;
  • eyes are small, shallow;
  • average weight - 91-180 g.

Purpose and taste of tubers

Tasters evaluate the table variety Slavyanka as excellent. Qualitative taste characteristics make it possible to use root vegetables for the preparation of delicious second courses. The pulp has a creamy shade that does not darken when cut and stored for a long time.

Maturation

The bush forms tubers after 100-110 days. At the end of this period, you can start harvesting.

Yield

Slavyanka has a high yield, for which it is appreciated by gardeners. The average figure reaches 181-334 centners per hectare. With a competent approach to cultivation and timely care, it is possible to collect up to 392 c / ha.

Growing and care

Before planting plants, you need to prepare the roots. The main stages look like this.

  1. Selection. For 3-4 weeks, the roots are carefully sorted out, leaving large and not deformed samples without sections.
  2. Germination. Selected tubers are transferred to a warm room so that they acquire a green tint and give the first antennae.
  3. Treatment. Root crops ready for planting are treated in a day with special compounds that prevent the development of diseases and attacks of pests.

After they start planting. It is recommended to plant root crops in warm weather, when the soil temperature does not drop below 7-10 degrees Celsius. It is recommended to thoroughly loosen and fertilize the area before planting.

Scheme:

  • the distance between the bushes is 30 cm;
  • distance between rows - 70 cm;
  • the depth of the hole is 8-10 cm.

Before sowing the tubers, a layer of wood ash or organic fertilizers is poured into the holes. When the potatoes are planted, you need to take care of the variety's care.

  • Watering. It should be regular, but at the same time, the plant should not be too moisturized so that it does not start to rot.The best option would be to install a drip irrigation system.
  • Weeding. The procedure is recommended to be carried out 2-3 times per season to prevent damage to the variety by insects or fungal diseases.
  • Hilling. Mandatory procedure, carried out twice. The first time they spud the rows at a seedling height of 15 cm, the second time - before flowering. The procedure can be carried out simultaneously with weeding.
  • Top dressing. Potatoes need different types of fertilizers: organic matter and minerals. The first time feeding is applied before hilling, then the soil is fertilized during the period of flowering and the formation of root crops. At the very end, it is worth adding a superphosphate solution.

Additionally, gardeners are advised to mulch row spacings with hay or sawdust. This approach allows you to keep warm and moisture, which has a positive effect on crop growth.

Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.

Potatoes, like other vegetable crops, need soil moisture. It is important to water the potatoes in a timely manner and in the right amount, then a good harvest will be guaranteed. The frequency of watering and their rate depend on the weather conditions and the characteristics of the climate of the region.
Hilling is one of the procedures that can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and protect them from weeds. When hilling, the growth of both aboveground and underground parts of plants is stimulated. This, in turn, stimulates the establishment of new roots and the formation of tubers.

Soil requirements

Slavyanka is quite demanding on soils. Tips for selecting a site:

  • preference should be given to illuminated places where underground waters flow deeply;
  • with a close location of groundwater, it is necessary to provide drainage so that the plant does not rot;
  • first, the soil should be fed with humus and dug up.

It is also worth considering the acidity of the soil. It should not be overestimated; the indicator, if necessary, should be reduced with the help of alkaline fertilizers. Taking into account the listed tips will allow you to achieve active crop growth and high yields.

It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The Slavyanka variety has a fairly strong immunity. But this does not mean that it is worth abandoning preventive treatment. Gardeners recommend spraying tubers and bushes with copper-containing preparations that prevent the development of fungal diseases. Also, when planting potatoes, it is worth:

  • take into account the peculiarities of crop rotation;
  • select tubers by removing infected ones;
  • do not water the bushes in the evening;
  • harvest on time.

Harvested potatoes should be thoroughly dried in the fresh air.

Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.

Harvesting potatoes is just as important as growing them.If you dig too early, the tubers will not have time to grow and ripen, and will be poorly stored. If tightened with harvesting, potatoes can suffer from diseases or bad weather.
It is important not only to grow a good potato crop, but also to preserve it correctly. When creating optimal storage conditions, tubers can lie without spoiling for 9-10 months. Therefore, after harvesting, you need to prepare the potatoes for storage and place them in a suitable place.
