Gardeners always have their favorite potato varieties. Such crops include the Sineglazka variety, which is so called due to its unusual and incomparable color of root crops. However, other qualities of the crop deserve mention, such as high yield, excellent taste, strong immunity.
Breeding history
The mid-ripening hybrid of Sineglazka was obtained in the 50s post-war years thanks to the works of domestic breeders on the basis of the Institute of Starch Products. The culture was scientifically called Hannibal: this name was probably chosen in honor of Pushkin's ancestor. After all, it is known that the first fields of outlandish potatoes on the territory of the Russian Empire were organized precisely in the estate of Hannibal.
To obtain the Sineglazka variety, the Soviet scientist-breeder Domin used interspecific hybridization of wild-growing potatoes and a cultivated variety. The result was excellent, he was given registration number 15555. The hybrid passed variety trials in different regions of the Soviet Union at different experimental stations. The advantages of the variety were noted, but it earned low marks due to poor keeping quality and preservation. It turned out that the product was not suitable for industrial cultivation, and it was not included in the State Register. However, the variety has taken root ideally in private farmsteads. And today it is very popular among amateur gardeners.
Zoned in the Central region, grows very well in more southern latitudes. It is most widespread in private farmsteads and gardens of the Smolensk, Kaluga and Moscow regions.
Description of the variety
Sineglazka potatoes are a mid-season crop. It is intended for cultivation in personal plots, it is practically not grown on an industrial scale due to poor keeping quality, since about 75% of the total crop is spoiled. At the same time, in limited quantities, as well as in comfortable conditions, potatoes are stored perfectly, therefore Sineglazka continues to occupy significant areas in personal plots today.
In addition, in addition to excellent taste, this potato is considered very useful. So, a low percentage of starch in the composition helps the vegetable to be well absorbed, the product belongs to the dietary one, suitable for a children's diet.

Growing and caring
The variety is generally unpretentious: it produces crops under different, including bad climatic conditions, as well as in the absence of proper care. But a decent harvest of Sineglazka tubers can be obtained using simple agricultural techniques.
Dates of disembarkation vary, they will depend on the region: in the central regions it is May, to the south - April. An excellent result will be obtained when planting a crop in sandy soil, sandy loam, loam, which have neutral acidity.
For the location of a potato plantation, it is better to choose an open area, illuminated by the sun's rays, while protected from gusts of wind: maybe it will be a wall or shrubs, a fence, and so on.
