Potatoes are found in the beds of Russian summer residents more often than other other root crops. Given its popularity, a great many varieties have been developed, each of which has certain properties. The Molly variety attracted gardeners due to its early ripening period, which allows it to be harvested twice a season.

Description of the variety

The ultra-early root crop was bred by specialists from a large German agricultural firm, but it quickly took root in Russia. Excellent taste and marketable appearance of root crops were noted. The Molly variety is chosen by both professional farmers and ordinary gardeners who grow fruit crops on their own plots.

This variety was entered into the State Register of the Russian Federation in 2007. Experts have created a variety that is not afraid of drought and can bear fruit on any type of soil. Seedlings can be grown both in open areas and under film shelters. The massive and developed root system is capable of forming up to 25 tubers at a time.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

Stem-type bushes, medium in height (from 0.5 to 0.7 meters). The structure can be spreading or semi-erect. During flowering, small white flowers appear, collected in inflorescences.

Leaf sizes also range from medium to large. The color is green. Waviness is noticeable along the edges. The tops develop very quickly and are formed in large quantities, but the number of flowers is small.

The weight of one tuber is from 98 to 142 grams. Sizes are medium to large. The peel is yellow, the structure is slightly reticulate. The shape of the potato is oval. The surface is covered with medium or small eyes. The fruits are of culinary type B, which means that the potatoes are poorly boiled.

The pulp has the same yellow color. Summer residents note good keeping quality (82%). The starch percentage ranges from 11.4 to 13.4.

Purpose and taste of tubers

The taste of Molly varieties is responded positively, noting worthy gastronomic qualities.

Maturation

The ripening period of the early variety is short. From the day of germination to harvest, it should take 45 to 55 days. To get the largest possible tubers, it is advisable to dig out the potatoes as late as possible, and after 40 days, the first sample of young potatoes is removed.

Yield

The table variety boasts a high yield, which reaches 308 centners per hectare of land. The average figure is 171-300 centners per hectare. To achieve the highest value, you need to regularly water, fertilize the potatoes, and also follow all the rules of agricultural technology. The marketability of the crop is high, so this variety has long been grown for sale.

Growing and care

Molly potato care is standard and almost does not differ from the cultivation of other types of root crops. Agricultural technology includes fertilization, irrigation, hilling, weeding and loosening. And also prophylaxis is carried out to protect against pests and diseases.

As soon as the seedlings reach 10 centimeters, the first watering is performed.When drawing up an irrigation scheme, the quality of the soil is taken into account. When planting in heavy and wet soil, you can reduce watering or even refuse them altogether. Water must be poured strictly at the root and try not to wet the tops.

The following factors indicate a lack of fluid:

  • slow development of seedlings;

  • pale color;

  • yellow leaves;

  • seedlings lose their elasticity;

  • wilting of seedlings;

  • the buds dry out before they open up.

One liter of water per bush is quite enough so that the roots do not lack in the hot and dry season. Experienced gardeners advise using settled water at room temperature instead of cold tap water.

Excessive moisture can be identified by the following signs:

  • decay of root crops;

  • darkening of the leaves;

  • plaque at the base of the soil;

  • wet spots.

As for fertilizers, most of them are applied in the fall or shortly before planting the tubers. If the nutrients were not laid in the process of planting seedlings, then you can combine top dressing with hilling.

Optimal composition of root fertilizers:

  • for 10 liters of water, one part of potassium and phosphorus (no more than 25 grams) and 2 parts of nitrogen;

  • 3 tablespoons of ash and a tablespoon of potassium sulfate in a bucket of water;

  • a solution of a tablespoon of urea diluted in 10 liters of water.

For one Molly bush, 500 milliliters of any of the compositions are consumed.

And also seedlings can be sprayed with compounds that are easy to prepare yourself.

  • 2 grams of humate are dissolved in 10 liters of water. To process 100 square meters of territory, 3 liters of the composition will be enough. You can spray molly potatoes once every 2 weeks.

  • To prepare the following top dressing, you need: 150 grams of potassium monophosphate, 5 grams of boric acid, 100 grams of carbamide and 5 liters of water, spraying is carried out every 10 days.

Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.

Potatoes, like other vegetable crops, need soil moisture. It is important to water the potatoes in a timely manner and in the right amount, then a good harvest will be guaranteed. The frequency of watering and their rate depend on the weather conditions and the characteristics of the climate of the region.
Hilling is one of the procedures that can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and protect them from weeds. When hilling, the growth of both aboveground and underground parts of plants is stimulated. This, in turn, stimulates the establishment of new roots and the formation of tubers.
It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But it is unlikely that it will be possible to grow a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.

Harvesting potatoes is just as important as growing them. If you dig too early, the tubers will not have time to grow and ripen, and will be poorly stored. If tightened with harvesting, potatoes can suffer from diseases or bad weather.
It is important not only to grow a good potato crop, but also to preserve it correctly. When creating optimal storage conditions, tubers can lie without spoiling for 9-10 months. Therefore, after harvesting, you need to prepare the potatoes for storage and place them in a suitable place.
