Recently, a huge number of different varieties of potatoes have appeared. Experts praise each of them. But it is quite difficult for a beginner to choose from such a variety. Let's try to help them by giving a description of one of the most productive new varieties - Mastak potatoes.
Breeding history
The authorship belongs to the Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Potato and Vegetable Growing.
Description of the variety
Mastak can be harvested quite early: young potatoes are already tried on the 90th day. Refers to the dining variety. Good taste, moderate starch content. It is recommended to store it until the beginning of spring, it is resistant to mechanical stress.
Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops
Vegetable tubers have a slightly elongated oval shape. Root crops have many small, yellow eyes, the color of the flesh is yellow, the peel is smooth. The flowers are red-violet.
Purpose and taste of tubers
The taste of the tubers is excellent. The purpose of the variety is culinary type AB. The vegetable is boiled down a little, the starch content in them is no more than 16%. Therefore, these potatoes are suitable for preparing various dishes.
Maturation
Refers to medium early varieties. The time from germination to harvest takes 90-100 days.
Yield
The crop is rich in harvest, on average up to 70.5 tons per hectare.
Growing regions
The variety is still little cultivated in the garden fields of the Russian Federation. But, judging by the climatic zones, good yields and survival rates are observed in Belarus, while in Russia it is cultivated in the Volga region, the Central District, and the Ural region.
Growing and care
It is necessary to take into account the weather conditions when planting a healthy vegetable. The soil should warm up by 8 centimeters to +10 degrees. It is possible to plant, of course, when it is cool, but the harvest time will be lengthened. First, you need to prepare the tubers for planting: keep them warm until germination, then choose the largest of them, dust with ash. It is recommended to plant in compliance with a depth of 12 centimeters, in the aisles and between the bushes leave up to half a meter.
During the period of germination, flowering and growth of tubers, watering is important. It is not worth pouring over the bushes, otherwise the tubers may begin to rot. Weeding is also important: the plantings should not be allowed to overgrow with grass. It is recommended to spud potatoes 2 times per season, and after work with a hoe, humus is laid in the aisles. Two weeks before harvesting, the tops should be removed: this way the tubers dry out, it will be easier to dig them up.
It is not recommended to plant a vegetable crop in one place for more than one season: the yield will fall, and the immunity to diseases will decrease. Mastak grows well after legumes, oil radish, perennial grasses, phacelia.
The taste of the root vegetable depends on several components: providing the soil with a sufficient amount of moisture, ensuring uniform lighting. It is necessary to apply mineral fertilizers on time in optimal quantities. Their lack will lead to a change in the taste characteristics of the variety. But it is worth remembering that an excess of nitrogen fertilizers can lead to an increase in the level of starchiness.
Recently, organic farming has become fashionable. The Mastak variety can be grown without chemical fertilizers. To do this, you need to adhere to the principles of proper crop rotation, be sure to plant green manure before planting: mustard, lupine, legumes, and use only organic matter to protect against insects and various diseases. Although the yield will be slightly reduced.
Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.
Soil requirements
Prefers light to medium soils with moderate moisture. At a certain time, it is necessary to make mineral fertilizing. The optimum soil pH should be from 5.2 to 6. If there is little humus in the soil, but alkali predominates, then you should not expect a rich harvest.
Excellent performance can be obtained on black soil, sandy loam, loam. Clay soils, stony loams, sandstones are excluded.
Required climatic conditions
The vegetable crop gives good shoots and productivity with temperature fluctuations within 18-22 degrees, as well as in those places where there is moderate humidity, there are no frosts.
Disease and pest resistance
Differs in resistance to the main diseases characteristic of this culture: cancer, nematodes and late blight. Also, the variety is relatively resistant to the most common pests: aphids, ants, the Colorado potato beetle.
Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.
Review overview
Many gardeners who have already tried the variety note its good yield even in the absence of stable rains. Gardeners are bribed by the taste of vegetable crops.
Now it is difficult to find potatoes, which, with a good yield, would have decent taste.Mastak potatoes meet all culinary and vegetable garden requirements.
