In the list of the most commonly planted root crops, potatoes occupy one of the first places. The choice of a variety is determined by the indicators of its yield and undemanding care. These characteristics are what draw everyone's attention to the red Manifesto potato variety.

Breeding history

The authors of the variety are a group of scientists from Belarus: Kolyadko I.I., Vologdina L.N., Makhanko V.L., Gunko Yu.V. outside Belarus.

Description of the variety

The Manifest variety demonstrates a high yield. These potatoes are grown commercially for production and sale as raw tubers. Buyers have long singled out this variety and love it for its tasty, boiled tubers, which favorably emphasize the taste of ready-made dishes. The relatively high amount of starch in the composition allows the use of root crops for processing. Vegetable culture is widely used in the factories in the manufacture of chips.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

There are no special visual differences in the Manifesto bushes. They are semi-erect and grow up to half a meter.

Leaves are medium-sized, green, waviness along the edge is poorly expressed. The flowers are distinguished by a lilac shade, somewhat brighter on the inner side of the petals. Flowering occurs quite quickly, the potato fades in a week.

The mass of one elongated oval tuber is 104-132 g. The color of the peel is red, and the flesh under it is pale yellow. The structure of the peel is smooth. The depth of the eyes is shallow.

Purpose and taste of tubers

The Manifesto potato taste is considered excellent. The amount of starch in it can reach 13.0-15.4%. This means that potatoes do not boil well. At the same time, it is saturated with antioxidants, which makes the structure of the pulp softer. Red potatoes are a good supplier of carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.

Maturation

By ripening, this variety belongs to the medium early. It takes 90-100 days from germination to harvest. They start harvesting as soon as the tops are half dry.

Yield

The high-yielding variety gives an average of 165-408 centners per hectare of potatoes. The maximum can be removed up to 458 centners per hectare. Two weeks before digging up the root crops, the stems are cut off. This procedure aims to form a tighter skin on the root vegetables.

It is not recommended to delay the harvesting period, since a longer stay of root crops in the ground will significantly reduce their keeping quality and provoke earlier germination.

Growing and care

If the Manifesto is planned to be planted with tubers, the planting material is prepared 4 weeks before the planned planting. It is necessary to select and sort the root crops. They should be 5-6 cm in diameter and show no signs of disease or deformation. Then they are laid out in boxes in several layers and set aside in anticipation of germination in a well-lit and warm place.

Among the sprouted potatoes, those with the densest sprouts are more suitable for planting. To increase the yield, it is better to spray the tubers with a solution of copper sulfate before planting.

When planting with seeds, germination is expected first.

Basically, the Manifesto is planted in the first weeks of May, sending the planting material into the heated soil. It is important that its temperature is not less than +8 degrees. Planting times may vary depending on the region where the potatoes are grown. You need to focus on the level of soil warming.

For the Manifest, it is optimal to use the ridge planting technology. It includes 3 main stages.

Loosening the soil and making grooves with a depth of 8-10 cm in the soil.A gap of 70 cm is required between them.

Prepared tubers are placed in the furrows at a distance of 30 cm. Then they are covered with loose soil, not by ramming, but forming ridges from 10 to 12 cm high.

Once a week, the combs are extended until they reach 30 cm.

- Watering and feeding

It is necessary to water the plantings at least 2-3 times during the budding period. The best way is rain watering. After it, hilling should be done.

If, before planting in the ground, there is enough fertilization on the site, a single top dressing for the entire growing period will be enough. It is produced when the tops are stretched 10 cm. The mixture is prepared from 1 kg of manure and 10 liters of water with one tablespoon of superphosphate. The solution is introduced especially at the root, so as not to harm the tops.

- Loosening and weeding

The soil must be loosened in a moist state. After germination, careful loosening is always carried out to accelerate the formation of root crops.

You should weed a bed with potato plantings twice a season:

  • when the sprouts grow 2-3 cm (3-4 weeks from the day of planting);

  • when the tops stretch up to 30 cm.

If weeds appear more actively than potatoes emerge, do not wait for sprouts to appear, weeding is necessary as plant parasites grow.

- Hilling

This treatment of the soil enriches it with oxygen, maintains the tops and prevents the growth of weeds.

Hilling is carried out between rows, with soil raking up to the plant stems. In this case, you need to carefully examine the tops and, if necessary, get rid of dry and deformed leaves. It is recommended to perform this procedure in 10-15 days.

Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.

Potatoes, like other vegetable crops, need soil moisture. It is important to water the potatoes in a timely manner and in the right amount, then a good harvest will be guaranteed. The frequency of watering and their rate depend on the weather conditions and the characteristics of the climate of the region.
Hilling is one of the procedures that can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and protect them from weeds. When hilling, the growth of both aboveground and underground parts of plants is stimulated. This, in turn, stimulates the establishment of new roots and the formation of tubers.

Soil requirements

For planting the Manifest, it is better to choose an area with soil with high aeration and medium acidity.

They begin to prepare it in the fall, produce top dressing. For 1 hundred square meters you need 40-60 kg of organic matter (humus, peat, etc.). Fertilizers are applied in the process of digging up the garden.

After the winter season, the soil also needs to be fertilized. This time, you will need inorganic feeding - 4 kg of nitroammofoska for each hundred square meters.

It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The Manifesto variety is liked by many gardeners for its resistance to viruses of various types, to golden nematode and potato cancer. It is also highly resistant to banded and wrinkled mosaics, black stems and curling foliage. Rarely affects potatoes and late blight, black and common scab.

Among the common parasites that most harm the potato crop, it is especially worth noting the potato moth and the large-scale Colorado potato beetle. Chemicals and biologicals are usually effective against these pests, but their use only makes sense before the first ovaries appear.

Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.

Review overview

The Belarusian potato variety is valued not only for its high-quality and marketable harvest, but also for its wonderful dining and tasting qualities. They determine its absolute suitability and gastronomic value for preparing a variety of delicious dishes.

Experienced agronomists note that if the plant is improperly planted, the variety becomes shallow. This fact prompts to carry out agricultural technology in accordance with all the rules. After all, large, selected potatoes are what every hardworking gardener seeks to get.

Harvesting potatoes is just as important as growing them. If you dig too early, the tubers will not have time to grow and ripen, and will be poorly stored. If tightened with harvesting, potatoes can suffer from diseases or bad weather.
It is important not only to grow a good potato crop, but also to preserve it correctly. When creating optimal storage conditions, tubers can lie without spoiling for 9-10 months. Therefore, after harvesting, you need to prepare the potatoes for storage and place them in a suitable place.
