With constant cultivation of the same variety, its yield is noticeably reduced, and the plants begin to get sick. When choosing a new variety, you need to pick up an unpretentious fruit crop that will delight you with a rich harvest every season. Lugovskoy's potatoes meet the declared characteristics, and even novice agronomists are able to achieve maximum yield.
Description of the variety
Due to the efforts of breeders, potatoes have acquired an innate resistance to scab, nematodes, cancer and other common diseases. Root crops can be stored for a long time until the second harvest wave without loss of quality. The presentation deserves special attention.
During the formation of the crop, some tubers may form in the upper layers of the soil and protrude on the surface. Such bushes need to be spud so that the fruits do not turn green. They should not be thrown away, it is better to use them as seed.
Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops
The bushes grow upright and do not take up much space on the land. Height is medium. Branched shoots. The surface of small leaves is matte. The color is dark green. The leaf plates are covered with fine villi, and the veins are clearly visible. During the flowering period, large buds, collected in compact inflorescences, turn into white flowers.
One plant forms from 10 to 15 tubers, each weighing from 85 to 125 grams. The shape is an oval. The skin color is light pink. The surface of the root crops is flat and smooth. The color of the pulp is white. Small eyes are almost invisible. Root vegetables are well boiled, while not watery. The potatoes do not darken during cooking. The starch content varies from 12 to 19%. Excellent keeping quality is 97%.
Purpose and taste of tubers
The fruits of this variety have good taste, thanks to which they are suitable for preparing various dishes: mashed potatoes, boiled potatoes with and without skins, soup, salads, stews and much more. Culinary type - C.
Maturation
Lugovskoy's table potatoes are mid-season. Plants need from 90 to 110 days from the moment of the first germination to harvesting the ripe crop.
Yield
A high yield is the main characteristic, thanks to which this variety is chosen by experienced and novice gardeners. A maximum of 514 centners of tubers can be harvested from one hectare of beds. Despite the high marketability, transportability leaves much to be desired, so you should not transport the crop over long distances.
They begin to dig up potatoes in early September. For work, choose a sunny day so that the fruits quickly dry out in the fresh air and prepare for long-term storage. For work, use a pitchfork or shovel.
It takes 2 to 3 hours to dry root crops. After the harvest is transferred to a cool, warm and dry place. Before storing potatoes, they are carefully sorted out. All damaged and deformed specimens are discarded.
Growing and caring
Due to its unpretentious care, the variety will delight you with a stable harvest, even if the weather conditions are not conducive to this. 7 days after planting, the ground between the beds is loosened for the first time, deepening the garden tool by 2-3 centimeters. Hilling is carried out after watering or precipitation. This contributes to improved tuber formation. The work is performed several times throughout the season.
Fertilizers are used about three times throughout the season, at each stage of the growing season. It is undesirable to feed the Lugovskoy variety with nitrogen. Nitrogen-containing top dressing can be used only at the start of plant development, for the formation of lush and healthy tops.
Root crops should be fertilized with wood ash or humus. It is important to feed the potatoes not only before harvesting, but also after. After the introduction of nutrients, the site begins to prepare for wintering. If the tubers were planted in fertile and light soil, the autumn feeding is enough to form a rich and tasty harvest.
Potatoes love moisture and respond well to frequent and moderate watering, but you cannot fill the beds. During the entire growing season, the bushes are irrigated three times. The first time watering is carried out after the appearance of the green mass and only when it rises 15-20 centimeters above the ground level. The next irrigation is done at the start of flowering, and the last time the potatoes are watered before the end of flowering.
Some gardeners irrigate plants after flowering, but experienced agronomists advise against this procedure. After flowering, the bushes weaken, and their immunity decreases. At this time, potatoes are most susceptible to late blight, and this disease is actively developing in a humid environment.
Additional irrigation works are carried out during the hot season. Drip irrigation is recommended. And also you need to periodically get rid of weeds and loosen the site.
To protect plants from pests and diseases, the tops are treated with the "Lurastim" composition at the budding phase. This drug promotes crop formation, strengthens immunity and resistance to diseases.
Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.
Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.
