In the variety of potato varieties offered by scientists, it is recommended to choose only those that quickly adapt to climatic characteristics and give good yields. Such qualities are possessed by the medium-early variety Lina of domestic selection.
Breeding history
Lina potatoes is a nightshade crop with a long history, developed by scientists from the Siberian Research Institute of Plant Production and Breeding in 1998. The authorship belongs to a group of breeders - Polukhin N.I., Orlova E.A. and Shushakova G.P. The variety has been approved for use since 1998. The most productive variety grown in the West Siberian region, however, in recent years, the geography of potato growth has expanded, becoming popular in the Urals, the Far East, as well as in the North Caucasus and East Siberian regions.
Description of the variety
Lina is a tall shrub of an intermediate type, which in a favorable environment stretches up to 70-75 cm in height. The bush is characterized by weak branching, moderate thickening with matte, pale green leaves, erect stems and a strong root system.
During flowering, inflorescences with small snow-white flowers are formed on the bushes. A feature of the variety is the duration of flowering, which is quite long.
Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops
From 7 to 11 tubers are formed in the nest. It should be noted that there are very few small specimens. The tubers are oval in shape, with a rounded top and a smooth surface. Potatoes are large-fruited varieties. On average, tubers grow weighing 105-150 g, but potatoes weighing 250 grams are often found. Vegetable peel of moderate density, with a slight gloss and uniform yellow color. On the surface of the peel there are a few small eyes with medium depth.
The harvested crop easily tolerates transportation, and is also able to be stored for a long time in appropriate conditions - temperature + 3 ... 4 degrees and the absence of high humidity, which can cause rapid germination of tubers.
Purpose and taste of tubers
The tubers have excellent taste and marketability. The snow-white pulp has a moderately dense, tender, oily consistency without wateriness. The pleasant taste of potatoes is due to the moderate starch content (up to 18.5%), sugars (fructose, sucrose and glucose), and fiber. It is also worth noting a small amount of protein, a considerable number of amino acids and vitamins. The variety is ideal for dietetic food. Due to the presence of succinic and malic acids in the composition, the pulp does not change color during cleaning and heat treatment.
The purpose of the variety is universal - potatoes can be boiled in their skins and whole, added to first courses, salads, made from them chips, French fries.
Maturation
Lina is a mid-early culture. It takes only 75-90 days from germination to harvest. The emergence of sprouts and the maturation of root crops occur together. The first digging can be done at the end of July. The massive harvest takes place in mid-August.
Yield
Providing the culture with proper care and favorable growing conditions, you can get a high yield. On average, up to 5.4 kg of root crops are dug out from 1 m2 of potato planting. On an industrial scale, yield indicators are even more attractive - 213-496 centners per hectare of plantations.
Growing and care
Potatoes can be planted in mid-May. To do this, select tubers weighing 45-65 grams, of the same shape, without damage, with good processes 1.5-2 cm long. Potatoes are planted in a row, or holes are made in a checkerboard pattern. The ridges are located from north to south, which will allow the bushes to be evenly illuminated both in the morning and in the afternoon. It is best to plant the crop in an area where flax, wheat, or legumes used to grow.
Cultural agrotechnics include: watering as needed, fertilizing three times per season, weeding and loosening row spacings, disease prevention and hilling (twice per season).
Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.
Soil requirements
The variety is absolutely undemanding to the soil, the main thing is that it is well fluffed, nutritious, moist and breathable. Peat, sandy or loamy soil, properly fertilized, is suitable for planting. The passage of groundwater must be deep so that moisture stagnation does not form, which negatively affects the development of plants. In addition, potatoes do not like acidic soil.
Required climatic conditions
Lina potatoes are a thermophilic, drought-resistant and non-capricious variety. The area for potatoes should be clean of weeds, abundantly illuminated by the sun and protected from the cold wind.
Disease and pest resistance
Due to their strong immunity, potatoes are resistant to a number of fungal and other infections - potato cancer, late blight of tubers and leaves. Most often, the plant suffers from the golden nematode.
Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But it is unlikely that it will be possible to grow a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.
