Laura is the newest variety that is rapidly gaining popularity in the country. The culture is not too whimsical to care for, but it requires certain varietal characteristics in cultivation.

Description of the variety

The potatoes are obtained by German breeders seeking to replace Red Scarlet in the market. In Russia, the culture is gaining more and more distribution every year due to high yields, large-fruited, persistent immunity and long-term storage. However, when using the variety on an industrial scale, it should be borne in mind that it categorically does not tolerate such a herbicide as Metribuzin, which is often used to remove weeds in the fields.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

Bushes grow tall and sprawling. The main stem is erect. The leaves are of medium size, intermediate type, without pubescence, rich dark green color. The leaf plate is wrinkled, with clearly carved veins. A large number of white flowers are formed.

The root system is very well developed. Up to 20 root crops ripen on one plant. The tubers are quite large. On average, the weight of one potato varies from 90 to 150 g. They have a regular, oval-oblong shape, with a small number of superficial eyes. The peel is even and firm, dark pink in color.

The pulp has a rich yellow tint, does not darken when cut and heat treated. Its consistency is dense. Keeping quality is very high, about 90%.

Purpose and taste of tubers

Has a rich, bright potato flavor. Belongs to culinary type B, therefore it is suitable for preparing absolutely any dishes, since the tubers practically do not boil during cooking, keeping their shape in finished form. The consistency is not watery, the starch content is 15-17%.

Maturation

Medium early grade. For the full technical maturation of the culture, 70-80 days are needed, but you can start digging in young potatoes for 40-50 days.

Yield

High-yielding culture. On average, 330-450 centners of vegetables can be obtained from one hectare. With competent agricultural technology and favorable climatic conditions, the yield can be increased to 510 c / ha. The harvested crop tolerates transportation well and retains its presentation for a long time.

Growing regions

Widespread in the central and northwestern regions of Russia.

Growing and care

The most important procedure is the correct preparation of the planting material. Tubers are selected long before planting, back in December. For planting, medium-sized tubers are carefully selected, without damage or signs of disease. Roots must be germinated a few weeks before planting. In this case, choose the tubers with the largest number of eyes. Experienced gardeners recommend treating them with copper sulfate and soaking them for several hours in a solution, adding a growth stimulator.

Planting time depends on the climatic conditions of the region. In the southern regions, the event is held in mid-April, in the northern regions - towards the end of May. The main thing is that the soil is warmed up enough, not lower than + 8 ... 9 degrees. Planting a variety in cold soil will lead to stunted development or death.

In planting, they adhere to the scheme of 60-70 cm between rows and 35-40 cm between holes. Dig a hole no more than 10 cm. If there is a lack of nutrients, a little wood ash or compost is added to each hole.

The culture responds positively to feeding. Nitrogen fertilizers can be applied in medium amounts as needed. Phosphorus complexes are used at the rate of 100 kg / ha. Potash dressing is carried out in the amount of 200-250 kg / ha, it is better to use potassium sulfates. Magnesium complexes are applied in an amount of 60 kg / ha.

Laura loves quality care, which consists in timely watering and hilling. The first watering is carried out 20 days after the shoots appear. The second - before the appearance of inflorescences on the bushes, which it is desirable to remove. At this time, the plant is in great need of moisture. The third is right after the end of flowering.

Further, the bushes no longer need to be watered, since at this time the plant begins to ripen the tubers, and the potato becomes vulnerable to fungal infections.

A prerequisite for a greater formation of tubers is hilling, which is carried out several times per season. The first time they spud when the bushes reach a height of 20 cm, the second is carried out 3 weeks after the first. In addition, this procedure makes it possible to remove weeds and loosens the soil, saturating it with oxygen.

Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.

Potatoes, like other vegetable crops, need soil moisture. It is important to water the potatoes in a timely manner and in the right amount, then a good harvest will be guaranteed. The frequency of watering and their rate depend on the weather conditions and the characteristics of the climate of the region.
Hilling is one of the procedures that can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and protect them from weeds. When hilling, the growth of both aboveground and underground parts of plants is stimulated. This, in turn, stimulates the establishment of new roots and the formation of tubers.

Soil requirements

Laura is quite demanding on the composition of the soil. The culture thrives on light fertile soils. On lands rich in humus, potatoes give the maximum yield.

It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.

Harvesting potatoes is just as important as growing them. If you dig too early, the tubers will not have time to grow and ripen, and will be poorly stored. If tightened with harvesting, potatoes can suffer from diseases or bad weather.
It is important not only to grow a good potato crop, but also to preserve it correctly. When creating optimal storage conditions, tubers can lie without spoiling for 9-10 months. Therefore, after harvesting, you need to prepare the potatoes for storage and place them in a suitable place.
