Lasunok, or Lasunak, is one of the largest and most delicious potato varieties. It was bred by the Belarusian Research Institute of Potato Growing. Feels great at home, but for gardeners of the Russian Federation it can be a real boon.

Description of the variety

Lasunok was included in the Russian State Register of Varieties under the name Lasunak in 1988. Over the years, he did not manage to gain great popularity in private farms of the Russian Federation, but he has many remarkable characteristics. It consistently ranks among the top ten varieties with yellow flesh. It is valued for its taste, tuber size, fertility and remarkable, very large bushes with strong tops.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

The bush is high, up to 100 cm, the stems are powerful, straight, covered with fluff. The flowers are white.

The tubers are large, weighty, 150-200 grams each, with good care, the diameter of the tubers reaches 12 cm. The shape is rounded-oval, the eyes are of medium depth. The peel is yellow, reticulate, the flesh is light yellow. The starch content in the pulp is 15-22%, potatoes belong to varieties with high starchiness. Keeping quality is from medium to low, dormancy period is short, tubers wake up quickly and actively.

Purpose and taste of tubers

The taste is excellent, rich, harmonious. A variety for table purposes, as versatile as the culinary type C allows. Such varieties of potatoes have a medium-mealy pulp and a high starch content; during heat treatment, they boil a little. The variety shows itself perfectly in French fries, in the filling of pies, in baked dishes. Suitable for cooking all types: mashed potatoes, boiled whole-fruit potatoes. The slider is also used to prepare any dry potato products: flakes, chips, cereals, granules, dry mashed potatoes, potato flour. Good for freezing in mixtures with other vegetables. Suitable for distilling alcohol and making starch.

Maturation

The variety belongs to medium late, ripens in 80-120 days from the moment the shoots appear. Harvested in August or September.

Yield

Productivity is outstanding - up to 63 t / ha, from 1 sq. m - up to 60 kg. 10-12 tubers are harvested from one bush - this is from 1.5 to 2.5 kg.

Growing regions

The variety is recommended to be grown only in the western part of the Russian Federation. These are the Central Region, the North Caucasus, the Black Earth Region, the Volgo-Vyatka Region and the Leningrad Region. The variety does not belong to the varieties of potatoes that tolerate continental temperature drops in Western Siberia or the Urals, it is sensitive to the length of the summer and is poorly stored in a very long winter.

Growing and care

The yield of the variety directly depends on the amount of moisture received. In dry summers, watering is needed. Approximate order.

  1. No need for watering before germination.

  2. Watering is required 5 days after germination (2-3 liters per bush).

  3. Watering in the second half of the years (July-August) is rarely needed. There is usually enough rainfall at this time. Although it is during this period that potatoes need them most of all. Watered in drought. In the 1st half of August, 3-4 liters of water are poured onto the bush, with the soil moistened by 20 cm.

  4. Lack of watering in late July - early August will lead to the fact that the potatoes will tie fewer stolons, so during this period they are watered more carefully.

In total, 3-4 waterings are carried out over the summer. In September, watering is no longer necessary, and, of course, watering is completely stopped 1 week before harvesting in order to collect clean tubers.

The rest of the variety requires classic care: 3-4 hilling, potash-phosphorus fertilizers. The dosage of nitrogenous fertilizers should be reduced, the variety already has very active and powerful tops.

The tops are cut a week before harvesting.

Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.

Potatoes, like other vegetable crops, need soil moisture. It is important to water the potatoes in a timely manner and in the right amount, then a good harvest will be guaranteed. The frequency of watering and their rate depend on the weather conditions and the characteristics of the climate of the region.
Hilling is one of the procedures that can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and protect them from weeds. When hilling, the growth of both aboveground and underground parts of plants is stimulated. This, in turn, stimulates the establishment of new roots and the formation of tubers.

Soil requirements

Any potato varieties grow better on sandy soils, and clay soils are difficult to perceive. But everyone's endurance is different. The slider is quite sensitive. Its loose and soft tubers are best poured in airy soils with excellent aeration. To determine the looseness of the soil, you should immerse your hand in it, and if you can do this without effort, the soil is suitable. Sticky soils are strongly undesirable, which, after being squeezed in the hand, do not disintegrate, but hold their shape like a sculpture. If the soil is too dense, it must be prepared: fine gravel and coarse sand, an increased amount of humus, chopped straw or rotted sawdust are introduced. In the years of rest from potatoes, green manures are grown on the site, in the fall they are plowed into the ground. This is one of the best techniques for improving soil structure. Very poor soils, peaty or podzolic, also accept all these procedures well, only emphasis should be placed on the introduction of nutrient components: humus, plant residues, rotted manure.

It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Required climatic conditions

The variety is susceptible to droughts. It grows and bears fruit best in warm, sunny summers with occasional heavy rains. It can show itself well in a highly humid climate, for example, in the Leningrad region, it is quite resistant to rhizoctonia, from which potatoes often suffer in unstable damp summers.

Conditions for storing dug up tubers: + 1 ... 2 ° С, humidity is strictly in the range of 70-80%.

Disease and pest resistance

The variety has excellent health. It is highly resistant to the main plagues of potatoes: rhizoctonia, late blight of leaves and tubers. The variety is well protected from the Colorado potato beetle - the pest does not like powerful mature tops, rich in solanine and with thorny pubescence. However, with a massive attack, the plants will still suffer, and you should not rely only on the properties of the variety.

Susceptible to golden nematode and PVX virus. The X virus is considered light. However, in combination with others, it can significantly affect yields. It is impossible to see the affected planting material, therefore, prophylaxis is used.

  1. Balanced fertilizers. Decrease in nitrogen dose with increasing dose of potassium and phosphorus.

  2. Removal of all plants affected by aphids and other diseases. It is advisable to do this three times: after the sprouts reach 15 cm, during flowering, before removing the tops.

  3. Increased attentive farming immediately after planting tubers in the soil. Adult plants are better at resisting the virus than young plants.

  4. Planting grasses around the seed potato area is helpful. Aphids attack the plants they see first.

It is also useful to remove the tops early.

Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.

Review overview

The Lasunok variety is quite demanding, but everything is forgiven him for the incredibly tasty, crumbly tubers that melt on the tongue. These potatoes are well worth the investment. Under suitable conditions, the tubers grow even, calibrated and huge, the yield is stable, and the taste is just excellent, delicate and satisfying. Potatoes are very fond of watering, this is noticeable even within the micro-plot. In more humid places, it grows larger. It is worth considering for growing in the recommended regions, especially if you need a gourmet, versatile potato suitable for dry food production.

Harvesting potatoes is just as important as growing them. If you dig too early, the tubers will not have time to grow and ripen, and will be poorly stored. If tightened with harvesting, potatoes can suffer from diseases or bad weather.
It is important not only to grow a good potato crop, but also to preserve it correctly. When creating optimal storage conditions, tubers can lie without spoiling for 9-10 months. Therefore, after harvesting, you need to prepare the potatoes for storage and place them in a suitable place.
