Crimean Rose is one of the most interesting potato varieties that can be found only in Crimea. Simplicity in growing and caring for gardeners will not give a lot of trouble. They are trying to grow the culture in other regions of Russia with an arid climate.
Description of the variety
The result of the selection work of amateur vegetable growers made it possible to create a potato variety specifically for growing in regions with a rather hot climate and low rainfall. Despite the fact that the variety is not included in the State Register, the Crimean Rose is very popular among gardeners. The vegetable is especially in demand in Crimea.
The variety is not subject to degeneration when the tubers are reused as seed material. You can independently select root crops for subsequent planting from year to year.
Potatoes develop well and give a good harvest in dry summers. Lack of warmth negatively affects both quantity and taste, which deteriorates.
Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops
Bushes are medium in size, with straight stems and compact. Leafiness is medium, intermediate type. The leaves are medium-sized, with clearly traced veins and slightly wavy edges, of a rich dark green color. Inflorescences are formed large in the form of a corolla of white color, which quickly fade. The root system is well developed, on which from 10 to 15 tubers are formed.
On average, the mass of one root crop reaches 75-120 grams. Their shape is oval. The skin is smooth, without roughness, pink tone. White pulp with pale pink layers. In the cut, the pulp does not darken. Keeping quality is good for several months without loss of consumer properties.
Purpose and taste of tubers
Crimean Rose has a delicate balanced taste without dryness. The appointment is a dining room. When boiling, potatoes are not boiled, they are also excellent in stewed, baked and fried form. The wateriness of the variety is not typical due to the high starch content in the composition (13-17%).
Maturation
Refers to early maturing varieties. From the moment of germination to harvest, 70-80 days pass. The first tubers can be dug in on the 40th day. However, by the end of the growing season, the maximum yield is reached.
Yield
The crop yields a good harvest, provided the hot weather persists. Then from 1 hectare you can get from 140 to 200 centners. It is noteworthy that experienced gardeners are able to harvest 2 crops per season.
Growing and caring
To get a good harvest of potatoes, it is necessary to observe the agrotechnical rules of planting and the characteristics of the variety. For the Crimean Rose, the optimal time for planting is mid-March, but provided that the ground is sufficiently warm. Re-disembarkation is carried out after collecting the first.
When growing a crop, crop rotation should be taken into account. Potatoes can be planted in one place for several seasons in a row, but after that the plot must be changed. Otherwise, the impoverished soil will not allow you to get the desired harvest. The plant can be alternated with legumes and cabbage.
Crimean Rose grows well on light sandy soils. Before planting, the soil is necessarily dug onto the bayonet of a shovel, while adding compost, wood ash and mineral fertilizers (potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus).
The choice of planting material must be taken as seriously as possible, since the success of the future harvest depends on its quality. Preparation begins in the fall. The tubers are carefully sorted out, leaving medium-sized potatoes. Small, damaged and with signs of disease root crops are rejected.
A month before planting, the tubers are transferred to a bright and warm place to stimulate sprout development. Immediately before planting, the potatoes must be disinfected. To do this, use a weak solution of potassium permanganate or copper sulfate. And also for several hours, you can soak root crops in water by adding a growth stimulant drug.
The Crimean Rose is planted according to the following scheme. Dig holes starting from one edge of the site to the other with a depth of no more than 15 cm. The distance between the rows should be no more than half a meter. Prepared tubers are planted together with sawdust, subject to a distance of 35 cm between root crops. If the potatoes are large, the distance is increased to 45-50 cm. Sprinkle with soil, and level the area with a rake.
Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.
Required climatic conditions
The culture feels great in hot climates, has a high drought resistance. Excess moisture negatively affects the growth rate and taste of root crops.
Disease and pest resistance
The variety is characterized by a fairly persistent immunity to most of the infections inherent in the culture. Crimean Rose is practically not susceptible to such diseases as potato cancer, common scab, black leg. Due to early planting and maturation, the plant is not affected by late blight.
Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.
