Description of the variety
Indigo potatoes currently have a patent. This is not the first of the purple varieties: they appeared in France in the 19th century.
Its main differences from yellow include:
less watery;
more dietary (contains fewer calories);

contains more proteins, fatty acids, a lot of vitamin C, iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, sulfur.
And also potatoes have many useful properties, including:
normalization of blood sugar levels;
strengthening the walls of blood vessels;
improvement of digestion and work of the gastrointestinal tract;
lowering pressure;
slowing down the aging process of the body and others.
Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops
The bush outwardly resembles all other potato varieties: the same growth, the same green. But we know that Indigo has unusual tubers. Oval-round and smooth, they have a dark purple rind on the outside and blue-mottled inside. Exotic potatoes weigh 98-167 g.
The plant itself is classified as tall, erect, of the type: intermediate. The leaves are characterized as open, dark green, medium in size. The bush contains 8 to 11 tubers.
Purpose and taste of tubers
Indigo has a purely dining function. Taste attributed by tasters: good. The culinary variety is BC and has a moderate digestibility.
Starch content: 13.5-14.6%. Keeping quality: 92%.
Maturation
In terms of ripening, it belongs to medium early. The period lasts 65-80 days.
Yield
Potatoes have good yields. On average, these are indicators: 136-231 c / ha, maximum: 377 c / ha. The marketability of the variety ranges from 79 to 94%.
Growing regions
Indigo cultivation is prescribed in the Central, North-West and North-Caucasian regions.
Growing and care
Prior to planting, potatoes are germinated and treated with agents to stimulate growth (and, accordingly, increase yields) as needed. They begin to plant in early May. By the type of landing, furrow or square-nest schemes are suitable. The distance between the holes should be 30 cm, 50-60 cm are left between the rows.
In order to prevent infection or infection, gardeners have introduced combined planting into practice. Along the perimeter of the area where the beds are located, marigolds, dill, parsley, calendula or night violets are planted.
Agricultural practices for Indigo are standard. After about two weeks after germination, the potatoes need to be watered and loosened periodically.
The variety also needs hilling. As the stems grow, the process takes place in two stages. The first one - upon reaching 12-15 cm, the second - 21-25 cm.
Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.
Disease and pest resistance
Indigo in the field of disease has both strengths and weaknesses.
The plant resists well:
potato crayfish;
golden nematode.
And moderately susceptible to:
virus (PVY) Y;
virus (PLRV) L;
common scab;
rhizoctonia (black scab);
black leg.
Indigo does not tolerate late blight of leaves and tubers.
For the prevention and treatment of these diseases, they resort to the following means:
Abiga Peak;
Fundazol;
"Acrobat";
Flanobin.
Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.
