When choosing a planting type of potato, it is recommended to pay attention not only to yield indicators, but also to take into account the ability to quickly adapt to climatic characteristics and resist viruses. These are the characteristics of Galaktika potatoes with medium early ripening periods.

Breeding history

Galaxy is a new variety of table potatoes developed by Irish breeders. The main task of the scientists was to create a variety with excellent taste and increased keeping quality. The following species are considered the parental forms of the variety: Picasso and Torridon. In the Russian Federation, potatoes are cultivated in the middle lane, in the south, in the Urals, in Siberia and in the Far East.

Description of the variety

The Irish potato is a medium-sized bush that grows up to 50-80 cm in height, sometimes up to 100 cm. The bush is characterized by powerful thickened stems with pronounced ribbing, not prone to lodging and breaking. The thickening of the bushes with large dark green leaves is moderate. During the flowering period, purple flowers with a yellow core appear on the bushes.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

12-14 tubers grow on one bush. The shape of the potato is correct - elongated-oval or oval-rounded with a smooth surface, strewn with many small eyes. The average weight of a vegetable is 90-100 grams. The peel of vegetables is moderately firm. A feature of the variety is an unusual and beautiful color - the snow-white cover is diluted with reddish-pink spots.

The variety has a long shelf life - with the correct temperature regime, potatoes can be stored for 70-80 days. It is important to remember that potatoes germinate quickly when stored in a humid environment. In addition, the harvested crop is easily transported over long distances without loss of marketability.

Purpose and taste of tubers

Potatoes have a good, balanced taste. The snow-white pulp has a dense, mealy, oily structure without wateriness. During heat treatment, potatoes are not prone to darkening. When boiled, the potatoes become slightly crumbly and acquire a yellowish tint. Potato pulp contains about 18% starch, as well as many useful components.

Galaktika table potatoes are widely used in cooking - they are boiled, stewed, fried, baked. Mashed potatoes are especially tasty from this variety.

Maturation

Potatoes Galaxy, medium-early ripening. It takes up to 100 days from planting to harvesting. Massive seedlings appear several weeks after planting. The variety is characterized by amicable ripening. You can start digging in potatoes in order to appreciate the taste at the end of July, and the massive harvest takes place in August.

Yield

High yields are an advantage of this variety, since the Galaxy pleases with excellent yields even in adverse weather conditions. From 1 hectare planted by the Galaxy, you can harvest 250-300 quintals of tasty potatoes. On one hundred square meters, 70-90 kg matures.

Growing and care

Planting dates depend on the climate of the region - in the southern part they are planted in mid-April, in Siberia and Altai - after May 10, and in temperate latitudes - in early May. The planting material must be free of contamination and the size of a hen's egg. Potatoes are planted according to the scheme of 30x60 cm. For planting, the temperature regime must be stabilized (10-12 degrees Celsius), and return spring frosts must also be avoided. The best place to plant would be an area where pumpkin, cucumber or cabbage previously grew.

During cultivation, it is recommended to provide the culture with basic agricultural techniques: fertilizing, weeding the aisles, periodic hilling (2-3 times per season), regular watering, because the variety loves moist soil (without stagnation), as well as preventive treatments that prevent the formation of fungi and the invasion of insects ...

Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.

Potatoes, like other vegetable crops, need soil moisture. It is important to water the potatoes in a timely manner and in the right amount, then a good harvest will be guaranteed. The frequency of watering and their rate depend on the weather conditions and the characteristics of the climate of the region.
Hilling is one of the procedures that can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and protect them from weeds. When hilling, the growth of both aboveground and underground parts of plants is stimulated. This, in turn, stimulates the establishment of new roots and the formation of tubers.

Soil requirements

Potatoes grow comfortably in nutritious, breathable, fluffy, moist soils with a neutral acidity index. Lightweight loam, loose sandy loam, and combined soils are ideal. The culture does not like swampiness and stagnation of moisture, therefore, the flow of groundwater must be deep.

It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Required climatic conditions

The site for planting potatoes is selected flat, peeled, where there is a lot of sun and light. Culture badly perceives regular shading. It is also important to provide plants with protection from drafts and gusty winds.

Disease and pest resistance

The galaxy has a high immunity, thanks to which the potato resists cancer, golden nematode, late blight of tubers and foliage, common scab. Potatoes are less resistant to black leg. Of the pests, the wireworm and the Colorado potato beetle are dangerous. Mechanical soil cultivation and spraying will help get rid of insects.

Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.

Harvesting potatoes is just as important as growing them. If you dig too early, the tubers will not have time to grow and ripen, and will be poorly stored. If tightened with harvesting, potatoes can suffer from diseases or bad weather.
It is important not only to grow a good potato crop, but also to preserve it correctly. When creating optimal storage conditions, tubers can lie without spoiling for 9-10 months. Therefore, after harvesting, you need to prepare the potatoes for storage and place them in a suitable place.
