Among the many potato varieties, gardeners and summer residents highlighted a list of their favorite varieties that never fail, give good yields and quickly adapt to growing conditions. This list includes the mid-early variety Sorcerer of domestic selection.

Breeding history

The nightshade culture Sorcerer is the result of the work of a group of scientists-breeders of the Leningrad Research Institute of Agriculture "Belogorka" - Evdokimova Z.Z., Shelabina T.A., Ivanova M.V. and Lebedeva V.A. RF of breeding achievements, it was added in 2000.

Description of the variety

The sorcerer is one of the most productive varieties. He is praised for good immunity, excellent taste of tubers. The variety is zoned in many regions of the country: Central Black Earth, North-West, Central, North, Far East.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

The sorcerer is a bush of medium height and intermediate type, characterized by an erect central stem, moderately spreading lateral branches and medium foliage with light green leaves. Due to the developed rhizome under one bush, up to 14-20 medium tubers ripen, sometimes the number of potatoes reaches 30.

The flowering period passes almost imperceptibly, the flowers do not even have time to fully open. At this time, snow-white flowers are formed on the bushes, collected in compact inflorescences.

Potatoes belong to medium-sized varieties. The tubers have an elliptical shape, a smooth surface and a slight sheen. Sometimes potatoes grow oval-flattened. The color of the potato is uniform - pale yellow. On healthy bushes, roots ripen, weighing from 73 to 116 grams. The skin of a potato is thin, elastic, with a small number of small, shallow eyes.

The dug out potatoes perfectly tolerate transportation, and are also stored for a long time without losing taste and presentation, the main thing is to observe the temperature regime and the level of humidity.

Purpose and taste of tubers

The potatoes taste excellent. The white-creamy pulp has a delicate texture without dryness. Peeled and boiled potatoes do not darken. The pulp contains up to 15% starch. When boiling, the tubers are boiled moderately. When boiled, potatoes have a delicate and sweetish aftertaste.

Potato Fascinator is suitable for preparing absolutely any dish: it is boiled, baked, stewed, fried, stuffed. Mashed potatoes are especially tasty and airy.

Maturation

The sorcerer is a medium early variety. From punching the sprouts to harvesting, it takes from 90 to 100 days. Germination of sprouts and maturation of root crops are amicable. The first digging, if you want young potatoes, is carried out at the beginning of July, and the bulk is collected in August.

Yield

The potato species is declared as high-yielding. On average, you can dig up from 270 to 352 centners of tubers per hectare of plantings. Up to 2 kg of potatoes are harvested from one bush. You can get up to 3.5 kg of tasty root crops per 1 m2 of the garden.

Growing and care

The planting of tubers with processes of 1.5-2 cm is performed in the first half of May, when the air and soil are warm enough, and there is no threat of return spring frosts. The scheme for planting is standard - 30x70 cm. When planting, the deepening of the planting material is carried out at the level of 5-10 cm. It is best to place the bushes after legumes, zucchini, radishes.

Crop care consists of basic procedures: watering as needed (at least 4 times), applying complex fertilizers (three times), weeding and loosening row spacings, obligatory hilling (two times), prevention of viruses and pest infestations.

Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.

Potatoes, like other vegetable crops, need soil moisture. It is important to water the potatoes in a timely manner and in the right amount, then a good harvest will be guaranteed. The frequency of watering and their rate depend on the weather conditions and the characteristics of the climate of the region.
Hilling is one of the procedures that can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and protect them from weeds. When hilling, the growth of both aboveground and underground parts of plants is stimulated. This, in turn, stimulates the establishment of new roots and the formation of tubers.

Soil requirements

Potatoes grow best in sandy, sandy loam, chernozem and loamy soils, which are good for moisture and air permeability, and are also characterized by neutral acidity. If tubers are planted in clay soils, they will develop very slowly and hurt a lot.

It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Required climatic conditions

Potato Sorcerer is a drought-resistant and thermophilic culture, which is comfortable to grow in an area where there is a lot of heat, light, enough moisture and there is protection from drafts and cold winds. It is better to choose a site that is flat, where there are no lowlands, in which water can accumulate, adversely affecting the rhizomes of plants.

Disease and pest resistance

The sorcerer has good immunity, which ensures the resistance of the bushes to many diseases: potato cancer, late blight of tubers, common scab. Moderate resistance of the plant to rhizoctonia and late blight of leaves. The only culture problem is the golden nematode. The greatest harm to the bushes is caused by the Colorado potato beetle, which will help to fight with special preparations.

Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But it is unlikely that it will be possible to grow a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.

Harvesting potatoes is just as important as growing them. If you dig too early, the tubers will not have time to grow and ripen, and will be poorly stored. If tightened with harvesting, potatoes can suffer from diseases or bad weather.
It is important not only to grow a good potato crop, but also to preserve it correctly. When creating optimal storage conditions, tubers can lie without spoiling for 9-10 months. Therefore, after harvesting, you need to prepare the potatoes for storage and place them in a suitable place.
