The potato variety Breeze has become in demand in regions with a temperate climate. Such popularity is due not only to the wonderful taste, but also to the unpretentiousness of the vegetable.

Breeding history

Five breeders worked on the production of Breeze, so it was the result of teamwork. It was decided to allow this variety for use in 2009.

Description of the variety

One of the distinctive features of Breeze is its high marketability. This indicator is at the level of 83-98%.

Root vegetables are not boiled, ideal for frying. Raw, peeled and chopped potatoes can be frozen without losing their unique flavor.

In the breeze, the starch content is 10-15.8%. This variety has a long dormant period.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

When the potato of this variety blooms, red-purple flowers appear on it. The bushes themselves are small in size, semi-erect tops with large green foliage.

Tubers grow large, in one bush there can even be 12 pieces. The breeze can reach 97-154 grams on average. In shape, the Breeze tubers are oval-like.

The tubers of this variety are yellow, inside the pulp is the same in shade. If the eyes appear, then they are of medium depth.

The breeze has a long dormant period, which is one of the distinguishing features of this variety. Tubers show good keeping quality - 97%.

So that they can be stored longer, you need to dig up the potatoes in dry weather and first pour them out on an area in the sun. A few hours are enough for the land on the Breeze to be completely removed.

After sorting, healthy tubers, which will subsequently go into the bag, are advised to be treated with an antifungal agent. Bactofit or Fitosporin is ideal.

During the storage period for potatoes Breeze, the room temperature must be + 2 ... 4 degrees. Only in this case, the tubers will not form sprouts in large quantities. A lower temperature is undesirable, since the Breeze can freeze, then the tubers lose their taste.

Purpose and taste of tubers

Breeze is a table potato that makes good fries and even chips. This potato is characterized by good taste, therefore it belongs to culinary category B. The young potato Breeze is especially tasty. Boiled tubers can even be eaten with the peel, as it is very thin and hardly felt.

Maturation

Potato variety Medium early breeze. From the moment of planting tubers in the ground to harvesting potatoes, it takes from 90 to 100 days. It will be okay if you overexpose the tubers in the ground and dig them up a little later.

Yield

One of the advantages of the described variety is its high yield. On average, this figure is 160-395 c / ha. The maximum result, which was recorded by specialists, is 451 c / ha.

On average, 12 large potatoes are dug from under each bush.

Growing regions

There are two regions where Potato Breeze is most common:

  • Northwestern;

  • Central.

Growing and care

Landing time is of particular importance to Breeze. The soil must necessarily warm up to +10 degrees. In most of the central regions of our country, this is the end of April or the beginning of May.Some breeders plant earlier, but it is worth remembering that in this case, the tubers may be overcooled and fall asleep for a while, so they will sprout later.

The breeze can germinate to get the first shoots faster. To do this, it is placed in a warm room for a month and sprinkled with water a little.

The place before planting is prepared in the fall, the soil is fertilized and dug up. Breeze potatoes are planted in holes 10 cm deep, the distance between the bushes is 20-30 cm. The row spacing is left at 50-70 cm. It is allowed to apply fertilizers directly into the planting hole before planting the Breeze.

It will be necessary to feed this variety of potatoes during the entire growing season. The first time fertilizer is applied 30 days after planting the tubers. It:

  • superphosphate;

  • sulfate;

  • urea.

The ratio of all components is 2/1/1 per square meter. The components will need to be dissolved in water and watered between the rows, so as not to get directly onto the root system.

Breeze and bird droppings have proven themselves well as a top dressing for potatoes. 200 grams are used per square of cultivated area.

If the potatoes of this variety began to develop an excessively lush tops of a dark green hue, it means that it is time to stop giving nitrogen fertilizers to the plants.

The second time it is necessary to apply top dressing after the buds have formed on the tops, and the third time, when the flowering stops. One of the best options for Breeze application of nutrients is by foliar application. In this case, Bordeaux liquid or potash fertilizer is used.

Particular attention should be paid to watering, since this variety requires timely soil moisture. The first time the procedure is carried out after planting, then in the phase of flower formation on potatoes and for the last time after flowering has fallen off.

By the bushes of the Breeze, you can immediately understand that it lacks moisture, since the tops become sluggish. This usually happens during periods of drought, then it is advised to water the potatoes every week so that the soil is soaked to a depth of 40-50 cm.

It is impossible to water in the heat during the day, in this case, the tubers of this variety may die. It is best to use the evening time.

In the process of caring for Breeze potatoes, weed removal and hilling of bushes are of great importance. If wheatgrass or thistle prevails on the site, then you can use herbicides:

  • "Panther";

  • "Fuzilad".

However, they should not be abused, it is better to go through the rows with a hoe and fluff up the soil a little, thereby facilitating the access of oxygen to the roots of the potato Breeze.

The hilling procedure is not carried out in all regions. If the planting of Breeze was carried out in the southern region, where precipitation is scarce, then it is advised to refuse it, since excess soil makes it difficult to water the bushes. Simply remove the crust from the surface.

In the northern regions, hilling of potatoes Breeze is mandatory and is carried out when the first shoots appear and again after 20 days. This procedure allows you to protect the bushes from sudden frosts. Before hilling, the potatoes are watered. The best time is early morning or evening.

Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.

Potatoes, like other vegetable crops, need soil moisture. It is important to water the potatoes in a timely manner and in the right amount, then a good harvest will be guaranteed. The frequency of watering and their rate depend on the weather conditions and the characteristics of the climate of the region.
Hilling is one of the procedures that can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and protect them from weeds. When hilling, the growth of both aboveground and underground parts of plants is stimulated. This, in turn, stimulates the establishment of new roots and the formation of tubers.

Soil requirements

For Breeze potatoes, the soil should be light to medium if the composition is taken into account. Experts advise to pre-fertilize it well with a long-acting mineral complex so that the tubers can receive the components necessary for growth at all stages of the growing season.

It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

Potato varieties Breeze have excellent resistance to:

  • viruses (PVY) Y, X, (PLRV) L;

  • curling leaves;

  • potato crayfish;

  • wrinkled and striped mosaics;

  • striped mosaic.

This variety is moderately susceptible to:

  • late blight of leaves and tubers;

  • common scab;

  • rhizoctonia.

In this case, it is recommended to carry out preventive treatment with fungicides.

Potato Breeze attacks the golden nematode, so it is important to apply insecticides on time.

Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.

Harvesting potatoes is just as important as growing them. If you dig too early, the tubers will not have time to grow and ripen, and will be poorly stored. If tightened with harvesting, potatoes can suffer from diseases or bad weather.
It is important not only to grow a good potato crop, but also to preserve it correctly. When creating optimal storage conditions, tubers can lie without spoiling for 9-10 months. Therefore, after harvesting, you need to prepare the potatoes for storage and place them in a suitable place.
