Planting material for some potato varieties, such as Bellarose, is not always easy to find commercially. Another, no less elite and interesting variety for difficult conditions will come to the rescue - Arosa.

Description of the variety

The Arosa variety belongs to the popular group - potatoes with red skin and yellow flesh. It is a fruitful, hardy and healthy vegetable. The yellow color of the fruit is due to the high content of carotenes. The author of the Arosa variety is Willi Zimmerman from the German company Solana GmbH & CO KG. The culture was included in the register of varieties of Russia in 2000.

Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops

The bush is slightly spreading, with straight stems, which are covered with medium to large dark green leaves. Leaves are slightly wavy. The foliage is good. The bushes are graceful and beautiful, stand out against the background of other varieties. The flowers are medium in size, pale purple.

The tubers are large - 71-135 grams. The peel is red, smooth, thin, firm, the eyes are superficial, the flesh is yellow. 15-17 potatoes are harvested from 1 bush. The percentage of starch is low - 12.2-14.3%.

Purpose and taste of tubers

The purpose is universal. Taste - good to excellent. Culinary type B. This type is low in starch, has a firm but not watery flesh, and does not tend to boil. Arosa tubers are suitable for making chips, French fries, regular frying, good in salads and soups.

Maturation

The Arosa variety is ultra-early ripe. The first digging is carried out on the 45th day after the emergence of full-fledged shoots, the second - on the 55th day. The yield of marketable tubers is not bad - from 77 to 97%. The yield is friendly. Keeping quality is excellent - 95%, tubers lie perfectly until April.

Yield

The yield is very high, the maximum is 248 kg / ha. This is almost 100 centners more than the standards of the Republic of Mordovia. On average, the yield is 188-204 c / ha. At the first early digging, after 45 days, 126 c / ha can be removed.

Growing regions

The variety is officially recommended for cultivation in the Middle Volga region. It also feels great in the North Caucasus, Western and Eastern Siberia, and the Urals.

Growing and caring

The Arosa variety is very adaptive. Fits well in any climate, grows on any soil. Resistant to droughts, so it is very popular with farmers in the southern regions. The variety is reliable, not inclined to change its behavior depending on the conditions, the gardener will in any case be with the harvest. According to some gardeners, they do nothing at all, but they still end up digging a good harvest.

It will require regular grooming to maximize its results and unleash its potential.

  1. Landing in the most loose, capacious, nutritious soil.
  2. Watering as needed. In the southern regions, watering is desirable in dry summers - the yield will be higher. In the northern regions with humid mild summers, Arosa may not be watered at all.
  3. Top dressing, if the soil is sufficiently nutritious, is also not needed. On poor soils per season, they are fed with mineral fertilizer 1-2 times per season.
  4. 2-3 weeks before harvesting, especially if the crops were sick with late blight on the site before, the tops are mowed. This measure prevents disease and stimulates the ripening of tubers.
  5. Hilling at standard times, preferably weekly from the moment the plants reach 15 cm. The bushes can stretch slightly and fall apart. If this happens, additional hilling is carried out.

The bush practically does not give trifles, all the tubers will be large, the seed material is quite difficult to prepare. For better storage of potatoes, it is advisable to dig in dry weather.

Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.

Potatoes, like other vegetable crops, need soil moisture. It is important to water the potatoes in a timely manner and in the right amount, then a good harvest will be guaranteed. The frequency of watering and their rate depend on the weather conditions and the characteristics of the climate of the region.
Hilling is one of the procedures that can significantly increase the yield of potatoes and protect them from weeds. When hilling, the growth of both aboveground and underground parts of plants is stimulated. This, in turn, stimulates the establishment of new roots and the formation of tubers.
It is not always possible to plant potatoes on full-fledged fertile soils, so regular feeding will help improve the situation. When growing potatoes, you can use organic, mineral and organic fertilizers.

Disease and pest resistance

The variety is resistant to cancer (pathotype 1), golden potato nematode, and various types of mosaics. Resistance to leaf rolling is medium. May be moderately affected by late blight.

Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.

Review overview

Gardeners appreciate the Arosa variety very highly. The most common rating is 5 out of 5, but even those who give the grade 4 do not skimp on words of praise. The plant is very resistant to diseases, it yields early and amicably, the tubers have a good caliber, they are beautiful, they lie until spring without losses. Finally, the potatoes are delicious, full-bodied, rich in vitamins, filling, not at all sticky or overly crumbly. A reference potato that will suit everyone.

Arosa shows itself perfectly in storage, even under unsuitable conditions. Thin peel is quite dense, does not interfere with good preservation. According to many reviews, potatoes are striking in their ability not to lose their appearance: spring comes, and it looks just as fresh as when digging.

It does not degenerate over the years, for 10 years it is able to maintain the size and shape of the fruit.

The yield varies depending on the weather, if you are unlucky with the rains and there is no watering, or, conversely, it rains cold all summer - from 1 bucket of planted tubers there will be 5-9 buckets (depending on the disgusting weather). In the presence of moderate rains and sufficient heat, 15 buckets each are received. In both cases, the crop makes a good impression due to the beauty and quality of the tubers.

Harvesting potatoes is just as important as growing them. If you dig too early, the tubers will not have time to grow and ripen, and will be poorly stored. If the harvesting is delayed, the potatoes can suffer from diseases or bad weather.
It is important not only to grow a good potato crop, but also to preserve it correctly. When creating optimal storage conditions, tubers can lie without spoiling for 9-10 months. Therefore, after harvesting, you need to prepare the potatoes for storage and place them in a suitable place.
