Our potato story began in the 17th century in the Netherlands. Tsar Peter the First became interested in an unusual vegetable. He sent a bag of "curiosities" to Count Sheremetyev "for brood." The tubers had to go through a very difficult path from the royal quirk to the "second bread". In Ukraine, potatoes appeared in 1680 on the estate of Count Potocki. Today there are about 4000 varieties of potatoes. One of them is the Adretta variety.
Breeding history
In 1975, Norika breeders in Germany bred a new medium-early ripening potato variety, Adretta. Since 1980, the gardeners of our country began to grow the variety. Thanks to this culture, vegetable growers revised their earlier opinion that varieties with yellow tubers belong only to fodder varieties.
Description of the variety
Table variety, high-yielding, suitable for long-term storage without loss of technical characteristics. Differs in excellent taste, frost resistance, well transported. Unpretentious in production, withstands drought, cold snap and sudden changes in temperature. The main varietal trait indicating the presence of carotenoids is the yellow tint of the tuber rind and pulp.
Characteristics of the appearance of the bush and root crops
Adretta's bush is compact, has a high growth - 60-100 cm, stems are straight, strong, ribbed. Large leaves are light green, lettuce color. The flowering is friendly, unexpectedly beautiful for a vegetable culture, snow-white flowers surrounded by emerald greenery.
The tops remain green for a long time, do not lodge. Light yellow root vegetables have a thin, rough and mesh skin. The pulp is yellowish, loose. On the surface there are shallow and shallow eyes. Tubers are oval-rounded or oblong-rounded, with an average weight of 100-150 grams. Large and medium-sized potatoes, starch content - 13-18%, protein - 2-2.4%, vitamin C - 13.5 mg%. Roots contain a lot of B vitamins, which has a positive effect on the work of the human cardiovascular system. A large amount of carbohydrates gives the body a quick satiety and burst of energy.
Purpose and taste of tubers
Adretta is characterized by excellent taste. The small-eyed vegetable is easy to peel. Suitable for preparing excellent dishes, suitable for the first and second, mashed potatoes. Used in industrial production for the manufacture of dry mixes, snacks, chips, French fries. When boiled, it becomes moderately crumbly, with small grains, acquires a delicate, medium-mealy structure. It does not darken during heat treatment, retains its shape. Boiling in the peel is preferred. Even in the case of freezing, it does not lose its taste; when cooking, frozen potatoes do not become sweetish.
Maturation
Medium early Adretta is planted in late April - early May. The period from the emergence of shoots to ripening is 90-100 days. Young potatoes are harvested in late June - early July. Experienced gardeners use fast ripening, growing two crops per season.
Yield
High yield is inherent in selection, but for the full disclosure of the qualities of the variety, it is necessary to comply with agrotechnical standards and recommendations for planting and care. Under favorable weather conditions, 10 to 25 root crops are harvested from one bush, about 1.5-2 kg.From one hectare of planting, the average yield is 214 centners, sometimes this figure reaches a maximum of 396 centners. Adretta is cultivated by both amateur gardeners and professional vegetable growers on an industrial scale.
Growing and care
Seed potatoes for germination are spread in a bright place 3-4 weeks before planting. After the sprouts appear, the seeds are sprayed with water and covered with plastic wrap to form roots. With a small amount of planting material, the tubers are cut into pieces. Each particle must have an eye. After dividing, the potatoes are dried to prevent infection. Landing of Adretta is carried out when the soil warms up to at least 5-7 degrees above zero. The planting site should be sunny, open, with a lack of light, the stems stretch out, the tubers become smaller and acquire an irregular shape. Planting depth - 7 cm, planting pattern 60 x 35 cm. The plant develops rapidly, powerfully grows tops and intensively sets tubers. Therefore, feeding is done both during planting and during growth, before the appearance of flowers. When feeding at the beginning of the growing season, the main mineral fertilizers: potassium, phosphorus, magnesium.
Nitrogen affects the growth of tops to the detriment of root crops, so its amount is limited. When landing in the hole, add:
- 2 cups of humus, 2 teaspoons of superphosphate;
- 1 tbsp. a spoonful of nitrophoska, half a glass of ash;
- 1 tbsp. a spoonful of cow humus, 1 tbsp. spoon of urea.
Important: you cannot add fresh manure. This leads to infection with late blight, scab, the plant is sick, the taste of potatoes changes. An alternative to mineral fertilizers is the use of green manure. They are sown in autumn or early spring, dug up before flowering. Cruciferous plants are suitable for potatoes:
rape;
rape,
mustard white.
They heal the soil, prevent the development of diseases. Siderates are especially useful in farms where, due to small areas, it is impossible to adhere to crop rotation. Caring for Adretta consists in timely watering, weeding, loosening. In cultivating a variety, it is not the composition and type of soil that is of greater importance, but the level of its moisture. The Adretta variety is a fairly drought-resistant plant, but on dry soil the plants need watering. One bush uses 3-4 liters of water. A day after watering or rain, the soil around the shoots is loosened to a shallow depth.
In the case of a close occurrence of groundwater, above 1.5 m, the bushes suffer, tuber formation is disturbed. This problem is solved by planting potatoes in the ridges. An important agronomic technique is hilling, which increases Adretta's yield by an order of magnitude. It is carried out twice:
with a shoot height of 8-10 cm;
15-20 days after the first hilling, with a stem height of 20 cm.
The ideal time for the formation of an earthen wall around the bush is a gloomy morning after rain or watering. Hilling increases the number of stolons on which tubers are formed. In a dry, hot summer, without watering, hilling is abandoned in favor of regular loosening. This technique breaks up the dry crust, increases air permeability, saturates the soil with oxygen.
Particular attention is paid to the need to preserve seed material. Amateur gardeners do this by sowing seeds. To be sure in the planting material, it is necessary to purchase tubers in the "Garden-Garden" brand stores, in large farms or from trusted sellers. The Adretta is updated at least once every 3-4 years.
Planting potatoes is one of the main spring activities traditional for Russian gardeners. There are many ways to plant this vegetable, allowing you to get a good harvest in different conditions and climates. Before planting, you need to carefully prepare the planting material, correctly determine the timing, competently prepare the soil.
Soil requirements
The best soils for Adretta are super-sandy, sod-podzolic, light loam. The fertility of the land is increased by the application of fertilizers.
Disease and pest resistance
Potatoes of the Adretta variety have an average resistance to major diseases and pests. The plant suffers from:
scab;
black legs;
late blight;
rhizoctonia.
With the observance of agricultural technology and the prevention of diseases, Adretta is able to remain healthy.
The pests are the Colorado potato beetle and wireworm, but the variety rarely suffers from them.
Potatoes are a popular vegetable crop that many gardeners planted on their site. But growing a bountiful harvest of tasty and large tubers is unlikely to succeed if the beds are not properly protected from the most common diseases and pests. Often, the development of diseases of various etiologies of potatoes goes unnoticed, so it is important to identify the problem in time and eliminate it.
