Cabbage SB 3 is a hybrid variety obtained by crossing the varieties Slava 1305 and Belorusskaya 455. The authors of the hybrid are Moscow breeders. The variety was approved for use in 1990. For 30 years, the properties of SB 3 have been well studied, let's get to know them in more detail.
Description of the variety
This is a high-yielding hybrid that is commonly grown outdoors in almost any region of the country. Heads of cabbage retain their marketability and taste, until the new year, if stored in a cellar, where the temperature is from -1 to +1 degrees. The variety is characterized by amicable ripening of fruits and versatility of application. However, this vegetable also has disadvantages, namely: the likelihood of damage by vascular and mucous bacteriosis, nevertheless, this usually happens if the rules of agricultural technology are not followed.
Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and heads of cabbage
The rosette is large, 70-90 cm in diameter, the leaves are large, slightly wrinkled, pale green with a grayish tinge. The outer and inner stumps are short, and the weight of a whole head of cabbage is 3-4.4 kg. The outside of the forks is light green, the inside is white and green.
Purpose and taste
The head of cabbage is quite dense, which makes it quite transportable, and it also has very good taste. You can make light vitamin salads from this variety of cabbage, or use it for pickling.
Ripening terms
From the emergence of seedlings to the formation of fruits at the stage of technical maturity, 130-140 days pass, which suggests that the hybrid belongs to mid-season varieties. Harvesting takes place in September.
Yield
This is a high-yielding variety that can yield an average of 970-1018 centners per hectare of vegetables.
Growing and caring
Sowing for seedlings is carried out from April 1 to April 10, bushes are transplanted into open ground on May 15-25. It is the seedling method that is more acceptable for varieties with a long growing season. The planting material is sown in a container, which is removed to a warm place. Young seedlings are planted in a summer cottage at the stage of 4-6 leaves according to a 60x40 cm scheme, but before that it is important to make sure that the soil is suitable for this variety.
The SB 3 hybrid is unpretentious to the type of soil, but it will best develop on loam and slightly acidic soils. The selected area must be well lit by the sun. The most favorable soil is the one in which legumes, pumpkins, nightshades or perennial grasses were previously grown.
For the first week, young shoots are watered every 2-3 days, each bush requires about a liter of water. When heads begin to form, moisture should be reduced to once a week, but each plant will now require a full bucket of water. A couple of weeks before harvesting, watering should be stopped altogether so that in the future the heads of cabbage do not rot during storage. For this culture, drip irrigation is relevant, as well as mulching, which prevents moisture evaporation, does not allow the formation of a crust and prevents the development of weeds. Straw, sawdust, manure are suitable as mulch.
After each irrigation, until the leaves close, it is recommended to loosen the soil. Hilling also helps to activate the growth of the root system. In addition, these procedures ensure the free penetration of oxygen to the roots. Top dressing will be required twice per season. The first fertilizer is applied at the first stage of fruit setting, and the second - a couple of weeks after the first. The use of a solution of urea, superphosphate and potassium chloride will have a good effect on the yield.
To grow a rich cabbage crop, you need to know when and how to plant this crop outdoors. Planting dates are determined depending on the variety. It is also necessary to properly prepare the soil and follow the rules of crop rotation.
Cabbage requires particularly careful care when growing. The plant quickly absorbs nutrients, so the soil needs to be enriched regularly. Adequate amounts of minerals, organics and nitrogen must be provided. Some products can be purchased at the store, while others are easy to make at home.
Disease and pest resistance
This hybrid is not affected by phomosis and black leg, cracking is also not characteristic of it, however, if the growing conditions are violated, the plant can become a victim of mucous bacteriosis. For the prevention of ailment, the culture is treated with wood ash, and for treatment, the drugs "Planriz" or "Trichodermin" are used. Another enemy of SB 3 cabbage is vascular bacteriosis. In this case, as a preventive measure, the bushes are sprayed with a solution of brilliant green, and the above means are again used to combat.
Cabbage is a very popular horticultural crop. But growing a good, large and tasty cabbage is sometimes very difficult, because it is often affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main role in the cultivation of this vegetable is played by regular prevention, which helps to get a rich harvest, and prevent the occurrence of diseases and the invasion of harmful insects. It is very important to start treatment as early as possible, otherwise there is a risk of spreading the infection to unaffected plants.
