This species has been approved for cultivation since 2007, but at the same time it is not so well known and widespread among amateur gardeners. It is used more by agricultural producers and farmers, since Prestige is ideal for cultivation for commercial purposes.
Description of the variety
Cabbage Prestige belongs to the late-ripening varieties. The plant is almost universal in terms of use and cultivation in regions with a wide variety of natural conditions. It tolerates heat well and does not crack. The heads of cabbage grow juicy and very dense, perfectly adapted for transportation and the longest storage. No wonder this species is so loved by agricultural professionals.
The hybrid combines many positive taste and commercial qualities, is not too demanding in care. At the same time, the variety is highly resistant to a variety of diseases and pests.
Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and heads of cabbage
Cabbage Prestige is distinguished by the rounded shape of a head of cabbage with a high stalk, inside the head it is of medium size. Despite the long stump, the cabbage does not fall or bend over. Cabbage leaves are lifted up. The upper ones have a light waxy coating and are distinguished by a grayish-green dark shade. Closer to the middle, the leaves brighten to a pale green color and gradually become whitish.
Cabbage grows weighing up to 2-2.6 kg (on average). The leaves lie tightly in the head of cabbage, neatly framing the green "head". They have a slight leaf wave shape at the edges and very little leaf bubbling.
Purpose and taste
Variety Prestige has crispness and juiciness of leaves, has no bitterness. Although it is inferior in sugar content to other popular varieties.
Heads of cabbage can be used for fresh food, for preparing a variety of dishes and canning. Cabbage is especially good for pickling, pickling and storing whole. Under normal conditions, the variety has a high storage capacity, transportability and can be stored for up to 7 months.
Ripening terms
In terms of ripening, the variety belongs to the ultra-late ripening. From sowing the seeds to full maturity and harvesting the plant, it takes at least 7 months. Cabbage is harvested in late autumn, and it can lie almost until the very next summer.
Yield
The variety is characterized by a good yield. On average, it reaches 328-660 c / ha. Although the maximum harvests were observed in the Ivanovo region, where the yield reached 700 centners per hectare.
The heads of cabbage grow evenly, about the same size and of good technical quality. More than 95% of plants have excellent presentation and properties, which makes them well used for sale.
Growing regions
According to Rosreestr, the Prestige variety is classified as cultivated mainly in Central Russia. In this area, it ripens and gives the highest yields in any weather. But it can also be said from experience that this cabbage is grown at very many latitudes. Recommended by specialists for: North-West, Central Black Earth regions, as well as cultivation in Siberia and the Urals.
Growing and care
Cabbage Prestige, unlike many other varieties, prefers well-lit places, but without direct sunlight.
This plant requires regular and abundant watering at least once every 2 days. In hot weather, it is recommended to water the plant in the evening or very early in the morning, at sunrise (if possible).
Seedlings are planted at the beginning of March, since the variety is very late in maturity. Seedlings are planted in open ground in late April - early May (we focus on the weather).
To grow a rich cabbage crop, you need to know when and how to plant this crop outdoors. Planting dates are determined depending on the variety. It is also necessary to properly prepare the soil and follow the rules of crop rotation.
Cabbage requires particularly careful care when growing. The plant quickly absorbs nutrients, so the soil needs to be enriched regularly. Adequate amounts of minerals, organics and nitrogen must be provided. Some products can be purchased at the store, while others are easy to make at home.
Disease and pest resistance
Cabbage Prestige is well resistant to the following diseases: black spot, keela, leaf fusarium, cracking. It's great if you support your high self-immunity with correct and timely care in the form of loosening the soil and processing with various home remedies (brilliant green solution, charcoal, iodine solution).
Cabbage is a very popular horticultural crop. But growing a good, large and tasty cabbage is sometimes very difficult, because it is often affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main role in the cultivation of this vegetable is played by regular prevention, which helps to get a rich harvest, and prevent the occurrence of diseases and the invasion of harmful insects. It is very important to start treatment as early as possible, otherwise there is a risk of spreading the infection to still unaffected plants.
Review overview
Most of the reviews about this variety are positive. Owners of personal plots, summer cottages and professional agronomists note good yields, undemanding plants to environmental conditions and resistance to the vagaries of the weather. A high quality crop can be obtained in any summer.
Internet users also note the good taste of cabbage, the juiciness of the head. Although some bloggers write in reviews that there are varieties that are sweeter and tastier than Prestige. But this is compensated by the excellent keeping quality and transportability of the variety, in which it has practically no competitors.
Gardeners unanimously note that the variety is excellent for pickling and processing according to traditional recipes (pickling, preparing salads for future use, cabbage soup, borsch).
