Many farmers are wary of red cabbage. And this is no coincidence. Mostly red-headed varieties have rather hard leaves, which is inconvenient when preparing salads, for example. The Kalibos variety is completely devoid of such a nuance. Its leaves are tender, juicy, delicious. And many are not indifferent to the shape of the vegetable: to some people, these heads of cabbage resemble rosebuds.
Breeding history
A very interesting variety of red cabbage was bred by Czech breeders Horal Jiri, Petr Klapste, as well as Yu.B. Alekseev on the basis of the Moravoseed company. This cultivar is presented in Russia by the agricultural firm "Semko-Junior", which is its originator. The culture was entered into the State Register in 1997 after successful variety trials. Recommended for planting in all regions.
Description of the variety
The Kalibos variety is very much appreciated by farmers, as it has a fairly high productivity, perfectly adapts to any weather changes, tolerates low temperatures well, and also has excellent taste characteristics. Disadvantage - not suitable for mechanized harvesting.
Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and heads of cabbage
The culture is a tall plant with a semi-vertical rosette, which has a diameter of 50-70 cm and a height of 30-40 cm. The outer leaves are medium in size, concave, in the form of a wide ellipse. There is a slight waxy coating. Bending and notching, slight waviness are observed along the edge. The outer stump is long - 25-35 cm, the inner one is usually medium - 15-20 cm.
Kalybos cabbage is distinguished by its original shape: it is an elongated cone, the height of which is from 25 to 35 cm. Its density is medium, the head of cabbage is partially covered. The vegetable has a colorful red outfit, on the cut the cabbage is red-purple. The weight of each head of cabbage is optimal - 1.5-2 kg.
Purpose and taste
The taste of Kalibos red cabbage is sweet, the vegetable has a very juicy and delicate texture. It is best to use the product for fresh consumption, it is also suitable for fermentation.
Ripening terms
The variety is mid-season, in order for the cabbage to mature, 140-150 days are enough, if you count from the emergence of seedlings to the onset of technical maturity. The crop can be harvested in September-October.
Yield
The average yield of the Kalibos variety is 580-640 c / ha.
Growing regions
According to the state register, the Kalibos variety is zoned throughout the territory of the Russian Federation. It is grown from the Central region to the Far East, from the northern regions to the Caucasus.
Growing and care
Both methods of growing are suitable for the cabbage of the variety in question: by seeds and seedlings. To grow red cabbage in the second way, it is necessary to sow seeds for seedlings in the first days of April. After 40-45 days, the grown bushes are transplanted to a permanent place in the garden. The originators recommend a landing pattern of 60x50 cm, thus, on one square. m there will be 4-5 plants. The variety is quite demanding on the level of soil moisture.
The cultivation of the Kalibos variety of red cabbage consists of a number of measures, such as watering, feeding, loosening, preventive measures.
To get a good harvest, it is important to follow simple rules of agricultural technology:
- move the grown seedlings into the ground if 5 real leaves have already appeared;
- for growing cabbage, choose only a sunny place on the site;
- the soil should be medium to low acidity;
- watering should be carried out only as the soil dries out, and also use the principle of sprinkling;
- Kalibos cabbage cannot be grown for several years in the same place; you can reuse the same bed after 4 years.
To grow a rich cabbage crop, you need to know when and how to plant this crop outdoors. Planting dates are determined depending on the variety. It is also necessary to properly prepare the soil and follow the rules of crop rotation.
Cabbage requires particularly careful care when growing. The plant quickly absorbs nutrients, so the soil needs to be enriched regularly. Adequate amounts of minerals, organics and nitrogen must be provided. Some products can be purchased at the store, while others are easy to make at home.
Cabbage is a very popular horticultural crop. But growing a good, large and tasty cabbage is sometimes very difficult, because it is often affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main role in the cultivation of this vegetable is played by regular prevention, which helps to get a rich harvest, and prevent the occurrence of diseases and the invasion of harmful insects. It is very important to start treatment as early as possible, otherwise there is a risk of spreading the infection to unaffected plants.
