White cabbage has been cultivated by mankind for more than a century, every year new varieties appear that delight gardeners with their positive qualities and taste characteristics. One of these plants is the Aggressor - a hybrid that was allowed to be used on the territory of our country in 2003.
Breeding history
Dutch breeders were engaged in the breeding of the Aggressor. The positive qualities of the resulting variety could be appreciated by gardeners around the world. Today in Russia this variety is grown in many regions.
Description of the variety
The aggressor is intended for open ground, so the cabbage adapts perfectly to a drop in temperature. For heads of this variety, the marketability level ranges from 92 to 96%. Shelf life is about 5 months, if the appropriate conditions are available in the warehouse.
One of the advantages of the Aggressor is that its heads do not crack and have a high density.
Characteristics of the appearance of the plant and heads of cabbage
In appearance, the Aggressor can be characterized as a plant with a raised rosette and medium-sized leaves, which are at the same time concave and slightly bubbly. The foliage is green with a gray tint. The edges are slightly wavy.
Both the outer and inner stalks are of medium length. Heads of cabbage reach a mass of about 2.5-3 kg. They are round in shape, whitish in color on the inside and green on the outside. In terms of density, the Aggressor is a juicy and crispy cabbage, for which it is appreciated.
Purpose and taste
Cabbage of this variety is used for making fresh salads, but this does not mean that it is not suitable for sourdough and even canning. The taste can be described as good, with a pleasant aroma.
Ripening terms
The aggressor is a mid-late hybrid. From the moment of germination to harvest, 130-150 days pass. Harvesting begins from August to September, it all depends on the region of planting.
Yield
This average indicator, if the Aggressor is grown on an industrial scale, is in the range of 431-650 centners / ha.
Growing regions
The aggressor is well grown in many regions of Russia, including the Far East.
Growing and care
It is worth sowing seeds for seedlings in April. Planting is done in small containers. The seed should be placed up to 2 cm deep and covered with a thin layer of sand. Seedlings usually appear 5 days after sowing. After the Aggressor gives the first three leaves, the bushes are picked. Young cabbage can be transferred outdoors as early as June. The Aggressor is planted according to the scheme 60x60 cm.
Properly grown seedlings should be healthy, strong, green, 10-16 cm tall with 4-6 leaves. The aggressor must be watered before planting to facilitate the removal of the clod from the container.
For 7-10 days before planting, young plants must be hardened - they lower the ambient temperature to several degrees below zero and reduce watering of the plants. It is worth planting the Aggressor on cloudy and cool days in the early morning or evening.
The best place for planting cabbage of this variety is the sunny side of the site, but in the south, experts advise shading young bushes at first. Cabbage Aggressor is characterized by higher resistance to prolonged cold weather. For proper development, she needs a temperature of at least 5 degrees, optimally within 15-20 degrees. At higher temperatures, above +30, there is no development of the head of cabbage.
The most important care procedure for growing Aggressor cabbage is watering. Cruciferous vegetables consume a lot of water from the soil, therefore they require frequent and abundant watering. The first 14 days, moisture is introduced into the soil three times a day, after a month the amount is reduced to once. For industrial plantings, the organization of drip irrigation is considered an ideal option.
In order for the heads of cabbage to develop normally, it will be necessary to regularly remove weeds and loosen the soil around the young seedlings.
It is equally important to apply fertilizers on time and in the required amount. The aggressor suffers greatly from magnesium deficiency, so special attention should be paid to the form and amount of fertilizer used. It is recommended to use lime or dolomite flour, which additionally increase the acidity of the soil.
From organic fertilizers, you can use rotted manure. The first application of top dressing occurs before planting seedlings in the ground. Then the procedure should be repeated after ten days. The aggressor responds well to complex mixtures with slow release of magnesium, nitrogen and potassium.
To grow a rich cabbage crop, you need to know when and how to plant this crop outdoors. Planting dates are determined depending on the variety. It is also necessary to properly prepare the soil and follow the rules of crop rotation.
Soil requirements
For planting Aggressor, chernozem with a pH of 6.5-7.5 is suitable.
Cabbage requires particularly careful care when growing. The plant quickly absorbs nutrients, so the soil needs to be enriched regularly. Adequate amounts of minerals, organics and nitrogen must be provided. Some products can be purchased at the store, while others are easy to make at home.
Required climatic conditions
This variety of cabbage has good resistance to changes in air temperature and does not require shelter.
Disease and pest resistance
The aggressor demonstrates good resistance to diseases such as fusarium wilting. It is not affected by thrips and cruciferous fleas, but aphids and whiteflies can attack, from which insecticides and even garlic infusion are excellent help.
For other types of fungal and other diseases, it is advised to use broad-spectrum fungicides.
Cabbage is a very popular horticultural crop. But growing a good, large and tasty cabbage is sometimes very difficult, because it is often affected by a huge number of diseases and pests. The main role in the cultivation of this vegetable is played by regular prevention, which helps to get a rich harvest, and prevent the occurrence of diseases and the invasion of harmful insects. It is very important to start treatment as early as possible, otherwise there is a risk of spreading the infection to still unaffected plants.
