During repair and construction work, craftsmen constantly use all kinds of battery and power tools, the reciprocating saw is no exception. But not everyone knows what it is, what it looks like and what it is intended for.

At first glance, it seems that a reciprocating saw is a simple hacksaw or an electric jigsaw, however, this is not the case, because they have significant differences between themselves. To saw an object with a hacksaw, you need to make your own physical efforts, but in a saber, an electric or battery motor does almost all the work for you. The main features of a saw, in contrast to a jigsaw, are:

• appearance similar to a drill;
• the ability to cut in a horizontal position, which allows you to get to hard-to-reach places;
• great freedom in the direction of cutting;
• fast processing of materials;
• the need for a "firm hand" to do the job accurately;
• the possibility of replacing the blade with other attachments, which increases the scope of the tool.

The main malfunctions of saber saws include the following.

• Sudden shutdown of the web. It is usually associated with exceeding the permissible loads, the need to sharpen the cutting blade, as well as the failure of the brushes.
• Curved cut. This may be due to the installation of the wrong cutter, a worn out key or screw, or the need to clean the holder prism.
• Inability to turn on the device. The fault lies with a faulty cable, overload and engine breakdown.
• The appearance of dark small shavings, which are a characteristic feature of a dull saber blade.

Any malfunction or breakdown requires qualified repair. Therefore, eliminating them on your own is not recommended; it is better to take the tool to an official service center.

The appearance of the German company Metabo dates back to 1923, when A. Schnitzler independently assembled a hand drill for metal. This powerful pendulum saw is the most powerful and heaviest in the group, weighing up to 4.6 kilograms and with a 1.4 kW engine. The Metabo electric reciprocating saw is equipped with a device for maintaining the number of strokes, a mechanism for compensating for the mass from excessive vibration and adjusting the depth of use of the blade. By the way, for convenience, the kit includes a plastic case and two types of canvas: for working with wooden and metal objects.

The next model features a lower output of 1.1 kW, a lightweight design - less than 4 kilograms - and a reduced stroke of 28 millimeters. But this does not mean that the tool is much worse than the previous one, on the contrary, it is simply created for doing sawing work at home. And thanks to the 180-degree rotation of the blade, the saw is often used to cut planks overhead.

The second group of reciprocating saws includes three main models: Powermaxx ASE 10.8, SSE 18 LTX Compact and ASE 18 LTX. In addition, there are 4 variants of the SSE 18 LTX Compact model: 602266890, 602266840, 602266500 and 602266800. They differ in the battery packs included in the kit.

All models are supplied with 11 to 18 volt lithium-ion batteries. The most powerful, heavy and large - this is the Metabo ASE 18 LTX cordless saw. Its total weight exceeds 6 kilograms, and the saw blade travel reaches 30 millimeters.
