Features of the choice of Wera screwdrivers
It is difficult to imagine tools of a home craftsman without a set of screwdrivers for all occasions. In order to navigate the varieties of this tool and correctly select its models for your own needs, it is worth considering the features of choosing Wera screwdrivers.
About the brand
Screwdrivers and other types of tools under the Wera brand are produced by the Wera-Werk company from the German city of Wuppertal, founded in 1936. Over its more than eighty-year history, the products of the German company have established themselves as the quality standard for professional tools. Wera products have won numerous prestigious industrial design and innovation awards.
At present, part of the company's production facilities have been transferred from Germany to neighboring Czech Republic, which, however, has absolutely no effect on the quality of the products. The model range of the company includes more than 3 thousand items.
Peculiarities
All Wera tools are color-coded for size and function Take it easy, making it easy to find them in the toolbox. On the end part of the handle of each screwdriver, its size is applied, the color of this inscription determines the type of its slot, and the color of the handle itself differs for models designed to work in different conditions.
It is important to remember that:
- screwdrivers with the usual straight slot are marked with yellow lettering;
- the classic cross instrument is indicated in red;
- Phillips screwdrivers for Pozidriv screws have a white number on the end;
- the TORX screw tool has a green grip end;
- Squared screwdrivers are marked with black markings.
Models
The assortment of manufactured screwdrivers is divided into several groups. The first of them is the usual screwdrivers designed for mounting and dismounting screws with a slot of various shapes. This group includes the Kraftform series screwdrivers, made of stainless steel and equipped with a polymer ergonomic handle. Products from this group are distinguished by a handle with light blue overlays. The series includes screwdrivers for these types of slot:
- direct (model 3335);
- square (model 3368);
- Phillips cross (3350) and Pozidriv (3355);
- TORX (3367).
The next series is Kraftform Plus, which is divided into two subgroups: the 300 and 900 series. The Plus 300 series, which features dark green handle covers, includes screwdrivers with handles divided into speed zones of different softness. By grasping the appropriate part of the handle, you can rotate the tool at higher speed or accuracy. Models are available with the same slots as in the Kraftform series, as well as for Hex-Plus, TORX PLUS, TORQ-SET and TRI-WING screws, as well as flexible shank models and end-type options for hex fasteners.
In the 900 series, marked with yellow pads, there are screwdriver-chisel hybrids that allow not only mounting / dismounting fasteners, but also gouging holes. For this, the handle of the products is equipped with a shock counter.
The Comfort range includes options with a split handle and a Black Point tip for added corrosion protection and increased precision.
A special designer retro series of the instrument with a wooden handle made of hardwood, equipped with a through shaft and a leather back, which makes this instrument not only beautiful, but also functional.
The Kraftform Micro and ESD ranges include small size models with reduced surface resistance (making them ESD safe), multi-piece handle, TORX screw retention and Black Point tip.
The 400 series includes a power tool with a reinforced T-handle for hex fasteners and TORX screws. The special series of flag models for small fasteners includes variants with Black Laser anti-corrosion coating.
Zyklop ratchet sets are equipped with bits for all popular mounting options and sizes. A feature of these reversible models can be called the presence of an adjustable head, which allows the tool to take an L-shaped position. Zyklop Mini compact kits allow you to work in confined spaces.
Dynamometer options are available in the 7400 Kraftform series, which contains models that allow you to set and adjust the tightening torque. Most of these screwdrivers are equipped with a Rapidaptor chuck for quick clamping. This group also includes dynamometric models with an L-shaped pistol grip, as well as models with an audible torque indicator.
Designed for electricians, the VDE series, marked with a combination of red handle with yellow or gray (Kraftform series) pads, includes dielectric handle tools designed to handle voltages up to 1,000 B. The series is available as Zyklop ratchet sets with bits, as well as conventional screwdrivers, which are electrically insulated versions of models from the Kraftform Plus and Comfort series. Also in this series are models from the Kraftform Kompakt range, equipped with a dynamometer and a tightening torque regulator.
Kits are also available that include 6 screwdrivers from different series and a plastic stand.
Dignity
All screwdrivers produced by the German company are distinguished by the highest level of quality of materials used in their production, and excellent workmanship. All models are characterized by an ergonomic and innovative design that ensures the convenience and safety of using the tool in all possible working conditions. Separately, it is worth noting the convenience of the tool handle, which, thanks to its well-thought-out shape, fits perfectly in the hand, and thanks to the use of special materials, it never slips out.
The handle of most models is equipped with a hexagon that allows you to clamp the screwdriver in an open-end wrench or box wrench to increase the torque. All models can be equipped with a screw lock. The working part of all offered tools is made of special grades of stainless steel, combining hardness, strength and resistance to aggressive environments. Some models have laser engraving system Lasertip, which creates a special micro-relief on the working surface of the tool, which significantly increases the adhesion of the tool with the screw. This avoids slipping of the tool, and also reduces the force required for twisting and unscrewing by several kilogram-forces.
disadvantages
The main disadvantage of German instruments is the price, which is noticeably higher than that of “non-brand” counterparts.
Reviews
Most owners of Wera screwdrivers note their convenience, reliability, durability, elegant and stylish appearance. Almost all models "hold" the screws very tightly, much better than their closest counterparts. As a disadvantage, many reviewers note the high price.
Some owners of models from the Wera Kraftform line note that the Lasertip notches applied to the slot on these products wear off relatively quickly, which worsens the adhesion of the tool to the screws.
