Construction of beds from corrugated board

The presence of decorative fences on the beds performs both an aesthetic and protective function, helping to protect plantings from weeds, as well as from rodents and precipitation. Different materials are used for fencing. When choosing them, they take into account the characteristics of the site, types of plants. One of the most popular options for fencing is corrugated board.

Fences made of corrugated board perform not only a decorative, but also a practical function, allowing you to divide the site into certain zones, choosing areas for planting, for resting and placing paths in the garden. Using them allows you to determine areas for certain crops, to protect from the growth of weeds on them. Curbs help to keep the shape of the bed itself, preventing the soil from crumbling, being damaged by rodents or animals. In spring, due to the high thermal conductivity of the material, the growth of seedlings is improved, which has a beneficial effect on the further growth of the plant.

Decking is considered a versatile material used in various industries. Profiled sheets are increasingly used in landscape design, allowing you to create beds, lawns, flower beds. This practical and durable material is successfully used to decorate summer cottages. Such material does not rot, which significantly extends its service life.

The height of the structures can be any from 10 cm to 1 meter. If desired, the height can be increased, which will facilitate weeding of plants and fertilizing the soil, and will also help to retain moisture after rains in the garden. The length of the beds can vary depending on the preference of the homeowner.

A regular bed of corrugated board can be used more than once. Such a structure can last 10-15 years or more. When applied to the surface of a polymer coating, the service life of products can be extended up to 30 years.

You can purchase ready-made structures of a standard size with a length of 1250 mm, 2000 mm and 2500 mm and a width of 100-1250 mm, or choose a model of a different size, and also build it yourself. Having the necessary skills and abilities, you can make beds from the profiled sheet yourself.

For work you will need:

• profiled sheet or corrugated sheet with dimensions 1200 × 2400 mm - 2 pcs.;

• a metal corner with parameters 100x100x2400 mm, it is cut into 4 pieces 600 mm long;

• wooden strips measuring 50x75 × 2400 mm - 4 pcs., used for the construction of the frame of the structure;

• to decorate the upper part of the model, you should also take 2 strips and cut them in half - the size of the strips is 75x100x2400 mm;

• self-tapping screws.

To prevent animals from entering the bed, it is also advisable to use a metal mesh with a size of 1200x1200 mm and use it in the lower part of the structure.

Let's analyze the course of work.

1. The initial stage is cutting the parts. To do this, the profiled sheet is cut into pieces measuring 600 × 1200 mm, while the length of the corners should be 600 mm.

2. Then the wood is cut for the construction of the box. Cut the strips into 8 pieces of 1200 mm in size, saw them in half.

3. For the construction of the lower part of the frame, strips (4 pcs.) With a size of 50x75x1200 mm are used.If necessary, the corners are trimmed so that they can match. Screws are used for fastening.

4. At this stage, the metal corners are fixed at the corners at the bottom of the frame. This work is best done together.

5. After that, the sides are fixed from the selected material. It is necessary to ensure that the metal does not tilt, but stands level.

It is advisable to also make a wooden frame on top of the box, similar to the bottom one and fasten it with self-tapping screws on the outside of the structure.

To prevent rodents and small animals from getting into the garden bed and digging passages into it, a mesh is fixed at the bottom of the box. This can be done with a construction stapler.

Then the box is turned over and the decorative top frame is fixed to it. This will not only add attractiveness to the finished product, but also make it stronger.

Having fixed the top, a hose for irrigation is taken out through the holes in the mesh. The boxes are filled with soil so that the hose remains on top. Such tall beds can decorate the site and make the process of growing garden crops much easier.

When making models from corrugated board, you should heed the advice of experienced gardeners.

• The optimal length for the beds is considered to be 4-6 meters. With a longer length, it will not be so convenient to care for seedlings and adult plants.

• High beds made of this material are more suitable for areas with a high groundwater table. In other cases, it is better to choose designs with a height of 30 cm. This will allow the plants to develop well, since at the initial stage of growth they will not be in the shade.

• It is necessary to ensure that the models from the corrugated board are neat and dense, so that the fertile layer does not spill out onto the track, and the water does not flow out of the sides during watering.

• Fences made of colored material will allow you to make a colored accent on the site. It is important that the edge of the product is smooth, otherwise there is a risk of injury.

• The place for such boxes should be on a horizontal flat surface.

• When choosing a material, first of all, you should consider the practical benefits. Even the cheapest materials can be more beneficial if they are installed taking into account the characteristics of the site, as well as the crops that will grow on it.

A garden bed fenced in this way will improve the quality of the crop, and also greatly facilitate the work on the site, watering.
